It was all going so well until he said he voted Leave.

I am sure conflicting politics is a common problem. Shudder. For someone to vote for such a destructive step as flippantly as he said: "just to see what happens" concerns me somewhat.

Aside from that he is very nice. How does one decide whether to take things forward? I guess time will tell? But then.... isnt it more difficult to extract yourself when you are more physically and emotionally entangled.

Oh dear, I don't know what to do. Only had relationship with ex (long term marriage ) & flings. Not sure how things work.

I do like him. But... he voted Leave. And doesnt read. And has lived in thr same place with his family all 4 decades of his live. I read (or did before kids!) & have travelled a bit..... are we compatible?

Oh dear - I sound like I am looking down on his experiences but I guess they are just different ...

If you did your research on Facebook then we are all up shit creek aren't we Hmm

JK1773 · 23/08/2017 21:00

Yes and Remain has a very significant problem too judging by the offensive bigoted comments on here tonight!

BoneyBackJefferson · 23/08/2017 21:09

fakenamefornow

There is no doubt in my mind (with no research or looking on facebook) that a good majority of racists sided with leave.

I also believe that there are racists on the side of remain.

The only difference that I see is that one group hates whilst the other group makes money out of paying immigrants next to no money and making them believe that that is all they are worth, whilst claiming they are something virtuous.

Gabilan · 23/08/2017 21:13

I wonder where the OP is and if she is going to update us.

AvoidingCallenetics · 23/08/2017 21:14

See, this is why leave voters cba to engage in this debate anymore and probably why OP's fella (if he's real and not some troll's imagination) made some trivial comment instead of talking to her about his views.

PaskinRobbin · 23/08/2017 21:22

JK1773. I didn't say half the population don't brush their teeth. Read my comment again.

Also, half the population didn't vote for Brexit. Not even half the electorate voted for it.

In my experience most Brexiters are driven by a dislike of immigrants and foreigners, and also aren't always that bright. I couldn't be in a relationship with someone like that.

If we had a refendum on public executions for paedophiles I am sure that people would vote for them. It doesn't make it right.

Gabilan · 23/08/2017 21:28

Paskin - JK's coming across to me as deliberately rather goady. It really isn't what this thread, or any discussion of the EU, needs.

JK1773 · 23/08/2017 21:30

I suggest you change the Brexiteers you spend time with. My friends and family were divided over this issue for many reasons. None of them have any issue with immigrants or immigration and to suggest they do is suggesting they are fundamentally racist which I strongly object to. And you did in fact compare being in a relationship with a Leave voter as being with someone who doesn't brush their teeth! Those were your words, shameful

JK1773 · 23/08/2017 21:31

I'm not being deliberately goady at all!

Runningyogabooze · 23/08/2017 21:37

Oh you sound much better than him. I suggest you leave him and find someone of superior quality and intellect like yourself OP.

BoneyBackJefferson · 23/08/2017 21:38

JK1773

Its just an atypical way to stop someone posting on a thread.

JK1773 · 23/08/2017 21:40

Boney I get it. Still ..... goady! After reading all that! I've been called worse Grin

AvoidingCallenetics · 23/08/2017 21:41

I'd say your experience is too limited for you to be making judgements about what drives Brexiteers Paskin. I am married to someone whose mum is not British. Two of my siblings are married to non UK citizens. You have no idea how I feel about foreigners. My own family is not wholly British in origin.

Believe it or not, it really isn't up to you to determine what is right. Your opinion carries the same weight as everyone else's.

user1488575338 · 23/08/2017 21:44

You sound more of an arse then he does to be honest.

AvoidingCallenetics · 23/08/2017 21:45

JK goady? Bugger me I've heard it all now, after the accusations of being thick and racist that have been thrown at leave voters on this thread.
I'm out now. There's no reasoning with remainers stupid!

histinyhandsarefrozen · 23/08/2017 21:46

I think you need to accept Paskin that brexiteers on mn are very different from the leavers you meet in rl, on social media, on tv and in govt. Grin the brexiteers on mn love the foreign people.

And I think you should have sex with leavers even if you find them dim or racist. Otherwise you are being as bad as they are.

My ex voted leave. It's not why we broke up exactly but it probably contributed. I would never knowingly enter a relationship with someone with political opinions I strongly disagree with. I might enter a relationship with someone who doesn't read but they'd have to be practically perfect in all other ways. I'd accept someone who hasn't travelled a ton as I'm still quite young so I figure there's plenty of time for that if he's my age but I'd like him to want to travel.
I wouldn't go for your man if you're basically exactly the same as me. If he makes you happy and you're not bored in his company, it may still be worth giving it a go.
The voting leave thing is pretty painful though.

There are leavers that voted "just to see what would happen".

Do you know why?

Because they live in the hope that things will get better because they have nothing else, only the hope that this might just change things for the better for them.

At least you have a job to lose and a living standard that can drop. So whilst you are moaning about your standard of living disappearing have a thought for those that have nothing and have been ignored for years.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/08/2017 22:42

BrandNewHouse

Remainers just like leavers are not a homogenous group.

I know some remainers with some pretty awful views and the only thing I will ever agree with them on is the referendum.

I also know some leave who I do agree with some things generally I just don't agree with their referendum choice.

Lumping millions of people together as one group is imo lazy and unnecessary.

dogfish1 · 23/08/2017 22:44

MotherofSausage the most significant ECJ decisions (those with 5 judges, and preliminary rulings) are all published in all official languages including English. In some 15 years' experience as a government lawyer in London and Brussels I've never heard the UK calling for any other approach to translation, or that the UK has had any difficulty ascertaining its legal position under EU law. So I doubt that the situation is quite as "farcical" as you suggest, and in fact I think there are people in the UK who enjoy thinking of the EU as a bunch of bunglers whereas in fact, compared to British governments, IME the level of competence or otherwise is about the same.

As for the debate, there are some smart people and some idiots on both sides, but I think that leavers tend to underestimate how successful the UK has been in shaping the EU to fit ts own priorities,. Perhaps they talk the UK down at leas as much as remainers are alleged to do. The UK has been as successful in getting its way as France and Germany and could continue to lead in Europe if it wanted to.

PaskinRobbin · 23/08/2017 22:45

The majority of working people voted remain MotherofSausage.
