Oops phone posted twice.

Elba84 · 11/02/2017 19:40

Don't get rid on the monkeys SadSad I promise I'll look after them.

Doing better here- on day 3. Manic day at work yesterday and probably the same tomorrow. But had a productive day today- bed excavation is now complete. And I ran 12 miles this afternoon, which has left me smiling like a loon ever since I got back. A lot to be said for excercise and endorphins! (Sorry for the constant running updates...!)

Off to have a bath, will be back a bit later

SweetLathyrus · 11/02/2017 19:43

It was getting a bit chaotic, Luxe, we only had them on loan.

SweetLathyrus · 11/02/2017 19:50

I got you some pandas as a swap, Elba (don't tell Ma)

Have any of you heard of The Sinclair Method? It sounds amazing (too good to be true?)

alcoholhometreatment.com/the-sinclair-method

I know someone considering it. It looks so potentially life changing that I can't understand why it's not more widely known about/ available.

babyjane1 · 11/02/2017 20:42

Hey wonderful babes,

I'm just marking my place, I lost you all for a while and I've not caught up properly but I will over the next few days. There's so much I want to tell you all, my journey has been hell on earth, not the sober part, the part before, the depression, the bipolar diagnosis and nearly drinking myself to death, by the end i was in a very sorry state. I've now been sober since last July and it's been very tough, not the not drinking but facing what I'd done, seeing sober the hurt in my children's eyes, the sadness in my parents eyes. I had done the crime and had to do the time, it was horrible, feeling feelings that made my heart physically ache, trying to comprehend the shock of how I had got there, like a terrible dream that I could not wake up from. So I've been sober since last July, my family have forgiven and are actually proud of me, I've lost 2 and a half stones and I feel nothing but blessed relief every single day for finding my way and being allowed back in, I'm still working on forgiving myself, I try not to look back. Anyway I want to tell you all that the posts I've read on here from babes old and new are full of intelligence, self awareness, honesty and courage and a compassion that quite literally helped save my life, I admire you all tremendously and am proud to walk among you. Xxx

dementedma · 11/02/2017 21:01

baby you are awesome!

twisted the Sinclair method is widely available (although not called that) through drugs and alcohol teams (via GP or self referral) in the form of drugs such as naltrexone and Nalfamene. As is home detox. I'm suspicious of that website specifically however (although I admit I didn't watch the video) as nowhere can I see them actually name the magic drugs that they are going to give you for £950! But by the description of the pharmacology I'm pretty sure they are either referring to naltrexone or nalfemene; if it's not that, and is something less widely available, then I'd want to see some pretty robust evidence of its use before considering it.

sweet I love the Pandas Smile Can they sleep on my bed? We could open a Zoo??!

baby lovely to hear from you! Xx

I'm in bed trying to simultaneously ice my lower legs and balance a hot water bottle on my back...not the most comfortable. Going to give up in a minute and go to sleep (I hope!)

Night all

TwistedReach · 11/02/2017 22:31

Elba - thanks it is naltrexone that they use and do say it on the website. Apparently the difference with how the Sinclair method uses naltrexone is that you take it an hour before drinking to stop opioid receptors in the brain that are more triggered by those with addiction than those without and so over time allow people to not want to drink without having to go through horrendous self battles.

SweetLathyrus · 12/02/2017 08:39

Morning All.

Baby, lovely to see you, wonderful Babe. Don't sit on the pandas!

Twisted, I don't know anything much about pharmacological interventions - but my skeptic muscle kept twitching just because of the language - 'miracle' 'one little pill', 'other methods are wrong', rejection of psychological support etc. My understanding is that current research (on which NICE guidelines are based) is that any use of drugs is only effective if combined with talking therapies. It just read like every quick fix diet ad on the internet - the said, I see the appeal, otherwise why would diet books sell so well. Is there a reason why your friend hasn't approached their GP? I'm sorry if I sound dismissive - it is the sales technique I object to, never ever someone trying to do something to help themselves.

Elba, the panda babies do snore, so you may have a disturbed night Grin. I presume the ice/HWB means you went for a run?

I am so, so pleased I didn't give in to the WW last night. I have a clear head this morning, and the scales are a fraction of a kg down. Now to decide where to walk SweetDog - I think he is bored with our local park, but everywhere else is just knee deep in mud - which I wouldn't object too if I could let him off the lead, but he just isn't being very cooperative as the moment.

What is everyone else up to this grey Sunday?

TwistedReach · 12/02/2017 09:02

Sweet, I agree with everything you say- and I am certainly in support of psychological support/ therapy- I dont see mental health need as any less than medical need. I was (am?) also sceptical. But Ive been talking to others and looked on the patient.info forums (under mental health and then alcohol consumption)- there is a post there now about someone asking for experience about this and people really are saying its working. I completely agree with the man on the video that the current treatment is very poor and just think this should be known about. It is available on the nhs, just not often used/ known about. Naltrexone used for abstinence has poor outcome (yet that is how it is used) but used to help people actually stop wanting to drink to excess or at all (while drinking), really seems to be working. Please check out the patient.info forum. I am not promoting this, I dont know for sure if it works, but will see how the person close to me gets on. I just think it should be better known about and it is worth hearing what people trying it are saying.
We all know how much pain alcohol use disorder causes- and this is nice recognised, not homeopathy or magic spells etc

Margie32 · 12/02/2017 09:03

Morning Sweet, morning everyone,

Very hungover. Went to a friend's for lunch yesterday, god knows how much I drank but I feel like death. Journey home is very hazy, don't really remember putting the DCs to bed, I then exchanged some aggressive and unnecessary messages with my BIL and SIL who I have to see today. Oh, and I had an argument with DH who is barely speaking to me.

I just want to curl up in a ball and never get up. Drinking makes me totally self-destructive and now I am morose and full of regret. At the time I'm drinking I think I'm controlling it, but I am clearly not. I just can't do this anymore.

dementedma · 12/02/2017 09:12

Oh Margie we've all been there! Will apologies fix things today?

OP posts:
LuxuryWoman2017 · 12/02/2017 09:23

Morning all,

Feels good sweet doesn't it?

Margie been in your shoes more times than I care to remember (fact is I can barely remember - all those blank spaces where memories should be) it's horrible, just awful. Hope you feel better later and make up with DH.

Mr Lux was horrifically drunk last night, went out to watch sport early, came back, went out again. Our DD mentioned how drunk he was, that was me not so long ago and I never want her to look at me the way she looked at him again.

Just worked out that I have not touched wine for 44 days (didn't drink any last couple of days of 2016) this is amazing for me. If I can go 44 I can go 88 and beyond yes?

It was timing for me, it's all about the right time. I had been leading up to it for a long, long time and being here has helped hugely.

TwistedReach · 12/02/2017 09:26

Also agree that 'the cure for alcoholism' is a very bad title and think the author has acknowledged this since. I think the idea that for someone like margie it becomes possible to drink without needing to speed up, when those around you slow down -because your brain stops getting such a hit from the alcohol, and the drive, with time reduces. Cure is misleading imo, but amazingly helpful and hopeful for many, may be closer to the mark.

tismesober · 12/02/2017 09:39

Morning all😀
margie as the others have said , been there and got the shirt in several different sizes.
Does the fact the you have got to face everyone today help in so far as it wont drag on and you can apologise and try to make amends ?
You probably don't see it that way though so sending you a hug to get you through the day and some BrewCake to help with the hangover.
Well done luxe it does seem that this is your time. It has taken me since the beginning of this thread 5 years ago ??? to try and bring my drinking under control.
Went to see my gran yesterday and she is fading fast and didn't recognise me.
However I got to hold her hand and give her a hug which meant a great deal.
I brought her a plant and she was so grateful and kept commenting on it that I nearly lost it but managed to save the tears until later.
Had a couple of drinks but stopped which is an achievement because a few years ago I would have seen yesterday as a great excuse to get wasted and block everything out. I might finally be realising that drinking to oblivion doesn't solve anything SmileSmile
Hope you all have a good day

tismesober · 12/02/2017 09:56

sweet have you tried using a long extendable lead with sweet dog ?
It was the only thing which worked for us. We kept ours on a long lead for a month several times until eventually the message got through.
God it was soul destroying at times and we thought that we would never crack it but she now has excellent recall.

Brave Babes - reconvene here!!!
Margie32 · 12/02/2017 10:55

Thanks Ma, Lux and Tis. I guess you're right - better to get apologies over and done with today...I just can't face my SIL, she is so superior at the best of times, doesn't need an excuse to make me feel like crap. Plus she doesn't drink so totally doesn't get it.

Lux, 44 days is amazing, you are in such a good place right now, keep on going. Tis, so sorry about your Gran, it is so tough to see someone fade away. Well done for not turning to a bottle afterwards, that is amazing self-control.

TwistedReach · 12/02/2017 11:20

I know that my last video was to a nurse who was prescribing privately, but please look at this forum. Nobody make money out of it, it s just about spreading awareness of choices out there. Honestly, you can look me up on here, I'm not some evangelical crazy treatment seller- I just can't believe this is not better known- and it sounds like it can help so many people with different kinds of alcohol problems to not have to 'white knuckle' their way through trying not to drink. optionssavelives.freeforums.net/board/15/progress

If it works for the person Im close to, Ill let you know- as well as if it doesn't. I just think for so many of you here you should have a look.
