I know these threads have come in handy for many dipping their toes for the first time into OLD. So here we are again ... another 1000 posts down:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Read Why Men Love Bitches (aka WMLB), and take from it what you will. 12. Don't serve up moose burgers on the first date (although this is still in debate right now) 13. Matthew Hussey also very useful. And very easy on the eye even if you don't find him any good. 14. IF THEY SAY THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP, THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP

Mr friend has gone out with some of his mates, I don't think he's a sub. However I will ask tomorrow. Of course I've got a date and I've got spots.
Oh, well.

What are the rules about commenting while a date?

Commenting while on a date? Well a loo update isn't mandatory, but it's nice for those who are rooting for you.

Make sure someone knows where you are, and who with. Send them a message to say you're okay, or alternatively they can give you an 'emergency' call in case you need to get out of there.

Faff - I understand why you'd put something up of something that's important to you, but it's not (yet) important to the people deciding whether they want to meet you.

To me, someone putting a picture of scenery is odd, because I'm looking to meet a person, not a field. My goal is to find someone who I find attractive and hopefully interesting enough to message, and at that point I may want to see what they find interesting. But from the beginning, I don't care about scenery. I care about whether I'd go up and talk to them at a party or something. And if they were walking round a party handing out postcards of the places they loved, I'd think that was odd.

Same as if someone at a party was taking everyone over to the window and pointing at their car. It may be interesting to them, but no one else, yet.

Leave the scenery photos for later, as it can confuse people in the meantime.

SuperFlyHigh. Oh huni I hope not !
I still have mr financial analyst texting me this evening and army boy. I can't be arsed with anyone tonight, was meant to be going out but a hairdresser has kindly dyed my hair white 😩

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 21:24

I agree with you faffalotty scenery is non offensive!

Bant I can see that the whole point of pictures of the OLD dater eg with a hobby or hobby item make sense. But there's only so many pics of men surfing, wrestling crocodiles etc I can take!

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 21:27

Pisseddoff i take it your hair colour was a mistake!

I think sometimes non all professions are the same... Let's hope this one is the exception!

Evilwater commentating whilst on a date well if it's loo update that's fine but not at table whilst on date! And also be careful who you send the texts too, have heard people mistakenly send wrong text to man who they're on date with!

Bant · 25/11/2016 21:38

Ha! That happened to me, super :)

needyounow · 25/11/2016 21:39

Going on my first date tomorrow, I am so nervous. Trying to be positive without getting my hopes up. Can I ask a really silly question please? How do you normally greet/introduce yourself when you first meet. That's the part that's worrying me the most, the initial meeting. Thanks

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 21:45

Bant I've heard of a friend of a friend do it too... Awkward!

needyounow I just say "hi my name is Super" and that's it! But yes it can be nerve wracking! Good luck for tomorrow!

Bant · 25/11/2016 21:50

You're not in Hertfordshire are you, super? Could have been that friend I met

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 22:14

Bant no this was in London ages ago more than a year I think not same as yours but similar.

Bant · 25/11/2016 22:18

Ohthankgod :)

motheroreily · 25/11/2016 22:19

I made a fake Facebook tonight so I can go on tinder and keep accidently super liking people

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 22:23

I've just ended things or the convo with Widower. Yet again tonight it was all him, long day at work... Working then bed. Which is fine but between now and my last date (7th November) which is almost 3 weeks ago he said he'd arrange re work visits to London when he could see me, of course on the Wednesday turned out his FIL was annoyed about leaving his DD with them he has said he may involve his parents more re caring for his DD but nothing since then and that was 9th November!

Getting sick of it now so ended it?

Was I too harsh? That's one iron gone one remaining who's back from holiday (yes really) soon.

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 22:24

mother why did you do that? Are you testing people?

AintThatSomething · 25/11/2016 22:25

I've acquired a slave and an arse picture tonight (same bloke) Grin To be fair, I was expecting much worse when I opened the picture so was fairly relieved. Conversation has stalled a little....

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 22:27

Aintthat is that what you were after or is it sort of unexpected?!

AintThatSomething · 25/11/2016 22:29

Very unexpected!! He does have a nice arse though. It really isn't my thing at all. -But I could get all the housework done?!!-

AintThatSomething · 25/11/2016 22:30

strike through failure- never works on this machine

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 22:31

It personally would put me off and some other women too!

AintThatSomething · 25/11/2016 22:33

It has definitely put me off!!

Pisssssedofff · 25/11/2016 22:38

Omg I'd love a slave - poor bsdtard would rue the day he met me though, you should see our house 😂

SuperFlyHigh · 25/11/2016 22:43

Aint it's the way some men just drop into convo like oh do you like being a slave or like Dom stuff etc?

At least if it's on their profile or pic you can skip it!

Billy Bob what an utter sad twat you are

Clawdeen · 26/11/2016 09:06

Have reported previous post.

Well my date last night was interesting. Good choice of venue and conversation flowed easily but there were quite a few 'buts'. His profile said he was 2cm taller than me and average build. I would say he was half a foot shorter and very overweight. Also he did keep mentioning money to the point where I found myself scanning the menu for the cheapest item even though we'd agreed in advance to split the bill. He seemed very keen until he discovered I'm a widow. I've had this reaction on dates before- I think they panic I'm looking for a replacement dad for my children. I do still wear my rings though on my other hand and this really seemed to bother him. So I need to give it some thought how I present all this to future dates. I don't need a man to rescue me- I've been in my own with the kids for years and we're fine- I just want a boyfriend! It just seems being a widow and the fact my children are always with me, so no long lazy couple only weekends- is really putting men off. Sigh! He ended it with the seemingly fatal, 'keep in touch' and a kind of pitying look combined with holding both my hands!
