"I really think most reasonable and fair minded people would agree"

If someone said this to you when you expressed your own personal opinion and the reasoning behind it on something entirely subjective (think personal opinions on what values are important to each person), followed by 'come on, I think you must surely accept that most people share my view!'

How would you react?

I agree with you about the party politics. if the parties were abolished, and individuals stood in constituencies they were actually a part of, life would be better for us non-politicians. And our MPs wouldn't waste their time with all the stupid point scoring. I expect that makes me unreasonable and irrational.

Offred · 07/07/2016 08:28

I don't even think party politics should necessarily be abolished, there should just be a level of independent scrutiny over claims/stats and an extra level of checks and balances that enforces the constitutional requirement for politicians to act in the public interest.

So your bf is trying to be of help to you with the school assessments for your dd? Are his efforts having a positive effect? If yes, then there is a reason to maintain contact as a part of your support network.

Otherwise, it is apparent that he is talking out of his arse regarding politics and his pontifications on what fair minded and reasonable people think. I don't think he is particularly directing this crap at you personally, but rather rehearsing debates and responses a la Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice. I would have a stock response ready involving educated and ethical people. Grin

Yes, he's been very helpful with DD.

CIN meeting today was largely positive in that EWO, SW and particularly CAHMS have been amazing and school are reluctantly onboard but are accountable now for what they do/don't do.

CAMHS particularly, absolute stars of the show...

Deputy head's input re problems socialising was 'well when she had dreadlocks other children didn't really want to socialise with her' to many many raised eyebrows around the room!

I'm glad the meeting went well. And glad that your DP is being helpful though I agree with AndTheBand about not taking his political pontifications seriously. To me the answer to "most reasonable and fair minded people would agree" is just "well some would agree and some wouldn't" Smile

A good day then, Offred . Brew I am happy for you and your dd.

Excellent bews re your dd. I do hope the Dep Head's pathetic input is noted officially; what a stupid thing to say!

Re your dp, I agree with AndTheBand that he is practising on you and the less seriously you take it the better (and the more likely he is to stop). Stock responses are great. 'Educated and ethical people' is a superb phrase to base a stock response on.

Good luck.
