Why is another woman's debit card in my house?

NatashaRomanoff · 01/06/2016 14:23

Please talk me down, I think I'm close to a panic attack.

My husband is away on business today, he will return this evening, so I can't speak to him right now.

This afternoon I have found a debit card in my house (in the living room) behind some furniture that is not mine. It's not my name or anything close to it. We don't know anybody by the name. The piece of furniture was only recently moved and there was nothing there.

So where the fuck did this come from? Please tell me there's a solution that doesn't include him shagging around. He hasn't shown any of the signs - I know them - exH cheated. I'm an absolute mess.

Has the card expired or still in date?

Sparklesilverglitter · 01/06/2016 14:52

Is the card still in date? Could of been there for years.

ChicRock · 01/06/2016 14:53

Well tbh my first thought would be that the nanny is having friends over during the day but doesn't want to say, rather than my DH is shagging another woman.

pearlylum · 01/06/2016 14:53

Have you owned the furniture from new?
I have a second hand sofa and recently was searching down the back of the seats to find the remote control and I pulled out two mobile phones!!
Not ours.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 01/06/2016 14:53

I lose my card all the time. I wouldn't worry unless you've got other cause for concern.

At the worst, all you have proof of at the moment is that she was in your house. And It might not even be that.

Is she a Facebook or LinkedIn connection of your husbands? Does she live near you, if you can tell from Google?

TheExtraGuineaPig · 01/06/2016 14:53

Do you have kids that pick things up? I know a small girl who used to take stuff - keys, tickets - anything lying around!

listsandbudgets · 01/06/2016 14:54

DP had a bank card in a woman's name in his car a few weeks ago. I asked about it and he said he'd picked it up on the pavement earlier in the day and intended to hand it into the bank the next morning which he did - could it be something like that?

loobyloo1234 · 01/06/2016 14:54

Is the card still in date OP?

shovetheholly · 01/06/2016 14:55

The sort code will give you a place - combine that with a Facebook search on the name and you should be able to narrow it down!

loobyloo1234 · 01/06/2016 14:55

^Posted this whilst still reading - ignore me - seems I was the millionth person to ask re the date on card Grin

listsandbudgets · 01/06/2016 14:56

Shovetheholly - not necessarily helpful. My sort code points to the branch of the bank where I went to university and I'm about 2 hours from there now

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 01/06/2016 14:57

Hopefully there's an innocent explanation to how the card got there.

allegretto · 01/06/2016 14:57

Strange things can happen! I accidentally left a pair of knickers in someone's car. He saw me walking along the road, offered me a lift and I got in. I had my beach bag with me with a spare pair of knickers in and my phone rang - they must have fallen out when I rummaged in the bag to get my phone. BlushBlushBlush I was mortified when he gave them back to me. Luckily his girlfriend didn't find them. Anyway, don't jump to conclusions as there is probably a simple explanation.

shovetheholly · 01/06/2016 14:58

Sorry, I should have explained - mine points to my home town 3 hours' drive away - but that would be information to track me down on Facebook as I am connected on there to my high school and to my current place of residence, so it potentially gives 3 pieces of info to narrow down the search (name, sort code place, place where card currently is) instead of two. If it's not the OP's town, it's better because it helps refine the search, IYSWIM.

shovetheholly · 01/06/2016 15:00

(I should add: full research mode is what I'd go into at this point. But that's just me and not necessarily the 'right' course of action at all!)

NKFell · 01/06/2016 15:00

Brilliant allegretto Grin

I really hope this is innocent op and it really still could be.

flanjabelle · 01/06/2016 15:01

Is the card in date?

Are there any people by that name on fb locally to you?

Has your husband shown any signs of an affair?

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 01/06/2016 15:03

I'd be saying to my dh when he gets in iv had an interesting email from (name on the bank card) do you want to tell me your side of the story. And see what he comes out with.

Itsaplayonwords · 01/06/2016 15:04

Is the surname the same as any of your children's friends/people are school? It could be a school mum whose DC took the card to school and somehow one of your DCs got a hold of it and it ended up at home. I know you said your DC said they don't recognise it but if they think it's something they shouldn't have they could be telling fibs.

OVienna · 01/06/2016 15:04

does your husband travel for work? have you had any visitors?

ScarletOverkill · 01/06/2016 15:07

Could your DH have found it in the street so picked it up with the intention of handing it back to the bank or dropping it off at a police station?

Czerny88 · 01/06/2016 15:09

Exasperated But why would you make up a story that isn't true? Especially since the OP's husband hasn't been exhibiting any suspicious behaviour.

SnoozeButtonAbuser · 01/06/2016 15:10

I'd be the same as you OP but it could be anything. How soon until you can ask dh 'who is [name on card]?' Why can't he be contacted during the day while he's away btw, doesn't he have a mobile for emergencies (and yes I would be treating this as one tbh, for the sake of my blood pressure)!

Asprilla11 · 01/06/2016 15:12

Have you cancelled the cheque OP?

JaneAustinAllegro · 01/06/2016 15:14

hahahhaha Asprilla
