The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Read Why Men Love Bitches (aka WMLB), and take from it what you will. 12. Don't serve up moose burgers on the first date (although this is still in debate right now) 13. Matthew Hussey also very useful. And very easy on the eye even if you don't find him any good. 14. IF THEY SAY THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP, THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP.

Awwww thanks handy for your kind words Blush. Am so glad I've been able to help a little. I luvs you guys and just want us all to be happy!!!!

freaky this is what the thread is for. We shall all need this handholding from time to time.

My reallife non irons are funny.

french wants to see me when he is back from hols.
realthing has been messaging with regularity since asking me out and my decline.....hehehe. I am evil. He needs to work harder to get me out with him. Grin
Nothing from the guy I like that I met at the conference aside from us following one another on Twitter......I really like him. He's my take down challenge. Think I'm turning into a man with this dating lark.

Onwards and upwards.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 01/05/2016 09:56

Great post Sassy, thank you. I think that Bacon is in option 2 for whatever reason. But I agree with your plan of action, I need to take some power back!

MrsRolandRat · 01/05/2016 10:18

I also agree with sassy this is probably how I would have played it. It's how I am with blokes these days. If what they are doing doesn't suit me I speak up, calmly, not emotionally. If they don't shape up, they get shipped out! It's not about being needy at all, it's about putting yourself and your needs first.

Goldfish21 · 01/05/2016 11:07

Sorry I haven't posted for ages. I have no irons left and am having a break for a couple of weeks. I never heard from Pingu again after our date zero. Spock turned out to be into kinky stuff so we agreed we wouldn't be suited and didn't meet up. Mr Familiar was texting a short dull message with no questions every few days, so have let him go as well. Will probably try Match next, even though people don't generally seem to think it's very good.

Freaky, I really feel for you, and I know I'd be feeling exactly the same in your position. I also strongly agree with Ocelot about it being the man's behaviour that makes us feel needy. I've had two OLD relationships in the last few years. Mr C's communication was generally very good, and although I had the odd wobble and insecurity (which I know I'd have in any relationship) his steady communication and the fact that he let me know he liked me really helped. Whereas with Walt, although there was the potential for me to like him much more than Mr C, his communication was very poor, and I became very anxious and unhappy and almost certainly came across as needy.

Just seen this very interesting article posted on Facebook and thought I would share it with you lovely ladies because it's definitely worth a read:

reddishdevil · 01/05/2016 13:15

Freaky, I agree with your brothers advice. Keep it light and if there is any confrontation do it face to face. That way you’re also able to judge his reaction better. Don’t give him the time to respond, especially if he isn’t responding! Jolly also makes good points. Sassy, if I’m ever in a dilemma on a date, can I have you sitting beside me telling me what to do?

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 01/05/2016 13:28

My mantra for next week will be "what would Sassy do?" Grin

TrafficJunkie · 01/05/2016 13:38

I never got the PM Roland
I'll catch up with the thread in a moment - but I wanted to tell you I have a date on Tuesday. Someone I met through Instagram!!

Crochetcrazyjampots · 01/05/2016 14:00

Hi
I've been reading the thread with interest and for inspiration -hope you don't mind if I join in. I've been OLD for a few weeks and it's been interesting ! Some dates with no spark early on but I currently have a dilemma ! I decided not to put all my irons in one basket so to speak and the up shot is I now have 2 dates on the go. This is getting complicated. They are very different from each other. I'll call them Mr hotshot (who sexts and I'm quite enjoying at my age) and Mr safehands ( who is so polite it's almost painful). dtd with hotshot (experimental if errr....quick) but not safehands (have some standards woman!). Suppose it's a nice position to be in but I really probably need to choose one over other soon . Arhh

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 01/05/2016 14:39

Yay, that's great Traffic! What's he like? And how do you go about meeting blokes on Instagram?

314pDream · 01/05/2016 15:11

lol at meeting somebody on instagram Confused
if my friends are shocked i met people from pof..........

yes, i used to ask myself Wink "what would Kate Middleton do?" but no, what would sassy do?!

PurplePow · 01/05/2016 15:24

What. A. Surprise. MrFit has cancelled tonight. I'm done!

314pDream · 01/05/2016 15:25

Sassy I could do with your straight talking then.

Am I out of my mind going out with the 29 year old later? I see it as a break from dating, that I've set out clearly that it's not a date, but I met my friend (a single friend my age, not judgey at all) last night and told her and he eyebrow was half way up her forehead. I kind of see this one as getting out of the house! Something a bit different, no pressure because it's OBVIOUSLY never going to be a 'thing'.

I think the conversation will flow but I thought that before I met Dr Creepy and our on line rapport ground to a screeching halt in real life. Weird that.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 15:28

My friend thinks that I should only leave the house for men aged about 43 - 51 and even then only if they live near me, have kids and don't want more.

I don't think any of the men I've managed to connect with actually fit the bill. The SENSIBLE bill, ykwim? No wonder it never works!

314pDream · 01/05/2016 15:31

Purple, hate that! did you have a babysitter lined up!? I was thinking before i even got out of bed this morning that if AxaA29/Jovenico cancelled me, I'd ask ECHT43 'fat questions' guy if he wanted to go out! Shame to send a babysitter home again!

I know he'd know that it was last minute but sometimes that's less pressure. They say yes or they say no and you don't over think it all.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 15:44

Crochet, it's a pity you can't take those two guys and mix them up like a paint.

AnnaChronism · 01/05/2016 15:50

314 I read your post that your friend really did have her eyebrow halfway up her head. You know, like she'd had an accident trying to recreate her eyebrows in that drawn-on way that the kids are doing at the moment.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 16:05

I saw the funniest pic on fb earlier. This guy advertising that he now does HD brows and the picture was a snap of some girl with him having edited the photo. He'd drawn H over one brow and D over the other.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 16:13

i'm fb friends with this guy and he is full of nonsense.... nobody would ever accuse him of taking himself too seriously.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 16:13

Another happy client!!

HandyWoman · 01/05/2016 16:48

LOL at those eyebrows, haha!!!

crochet - welcome, do you think you need to maybe sleep with Safehands in order to make a, y'know, informed choice Smile plus quick is never great

314 don't overthink this now - just go out and have fun!!

MegFlyAway2 · 01/05/2016 17:06

Ahhh just realised my username changed? Don't know what I'm doing haha.

No thankfully I don't have kids. Going to the pub with my friend instead. He's not getting anymore chances. I've seen him TWICE in 5 months. That's not someone who is that bothered really is it?? No matter what he says!

Back to the drawing board. On the plus side I got a drinks invite from a RL guy last night I know. Sadly I don't really fancy him so I've managed to avoid answering so far as I don't want it to be awkward... But a nice confidence boost!

Bant · 01/05/2016 17:11

Right. Cinema date (I know, terrible idea for a first date) in an hour or so. Going to see Captain America with a woman I've been chatting to for a few days. We'll meet for drinks first, then go to the film.

If all else fails, at least I get to see the film. If things go well, we'll skip the film.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 17:17

Good plan. You don't really get to know somebody at the cinema but if you're having a few drinks first then that's ok.
I'm getting ready to go out with the baby now. I have a younger female friend. I'm telling myself that.

314pDream · 01/05/2016 17:18

whoah, back up. Captain America Confused

I just googled that. That looks so horribly shit Bant. You can't drag a woman to that bilge.
