Thank you Umpteen :)

wickedfairy · 20/12/2015 11:35

Thanks Umpteen! I am late 30's with a 9,5,3 yo kids. It's the screeching and arguing I can't stand. Two together are ok but all three are a nightmare. It's the youngest two really....

DH is great and does loads with them, but when I am on my own with them, that's when it can be grim. I need to stop being so easily angered I think. I work too. I think I just need to make the effort go get out with them everyday I am alone at the weekends, so they can run off their energy. Then it will probably be more bearable!

wickedfairy · 20/12/2015 11:36

Hi Palombe, sorry - meant to say hi in my last post!

wickedfairy · 20/12/2015 11:37

Sigh... Palomb. Can't scroll on this phone...

Palomb · 20/12/2015 12:06

thank you wicked I have an iPad with a temperamental screen too. A lot off what I type when I'm using it is giberish.

Lucy2610 · 20/12/2015 14:15

Thanks Cheesy & Teapot :)
Teapot LOVED the Snoopy film Grin
Welcome Palomb :)
Wickedfairy go easy on yourself - parenting is hard work at the best of times but there is something about the run up to Xmas that is extra taxing - booze or no booze Flowers

Marryoneorbecomeone · 20/12/2015 15:31

I'm back! Still dry, that's 17 days straight, the longest in a good while.

TeapotDictator · 21/12/2015 08:38

Yes Lucy Charlie Brown was very nostalgia-inducing. It was my favourite cartoon/books when I was a tot a million years ago grin

Marry that is just fantastic. It sounds as though something has really clicked for you, particularly to make the stand at this time of year when the pressure is really piling on to drink, even for "normies". Star Brew Cake

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed about getting everything ready for Christmas and am in the middle of writing a big planning list. I have no idea how I ever managed this while drinking, it's hard enough to make sure I've got all the presents/cards/etc I need and wrapped at the right times, whilst looking after a pair of 6 yr olds single-handedly. Of course at the time wine seemed like it helped rather than hindered.... Hmm

Preces · 21/12/2015 09:24

Morning, all! Found it a bit more difficult last night: some friends dropped round an unexpected bottle of (very good) gin as a thank you for all the babysitting we've done during the year... Gah! And then DH was saying "well, you could take Christmas off from the not-drinking thing..."

He doesn't really get it, bless him. He can take it or leave it and doesn't understand that I can't. Once I start I hoover it up and it's not pretty.

Anyway, I got through it. Went to bed early (again! yay!) and am glad this morning. Am liking my dreams at the moment: I seem to have gone back in time to my pre-drinking, creative and bizarre but entertaining, dreams. Fun! And sleep. Remember that?! Pity DH has a mahoosive cold at the moment so was sneezing all night. I am sympathetic. Honest. I yam I yam I yam Xmas Hmm.

Busy day today. My own fault: I am doing a course in my spare (?!) time and have an assignment due by 12:30. Also lots to finish at work this week... aaaaaaargh. I can do this...!?!

3phase · 21/12/2015 11:27

Hi everyone. Just checking in. I had a glass of red on Saturday night, poured myself another and threw it away. Really struggling with the 'fuck its' at the moment and seem to be in full blown self-destruct mode. Managed not to drink yesterday. Hoping not to today. That's it really....

Well done to everyone who is managing to stay AF. It's no mean feat at this time of year!!! Xmas Smile

CheesyNachos · 21/12/2015 13:33

Checking in also. :)

donajimena · 21/12/2015 13:40

CheesyNachos · 21/12/2015 13:45

Oooh.... can I just share something?

DS (aged 5) is just 'getting' Christmas this year. A gift arrived from my dear best friend from Sth Africa for him. He said his name on the parcel and said to me 'Mummy, I am so excited I think I might cry'.

OP posts:
CheesyNachos · 21/12/2015 15:16

...'he saw his name...'that was meant to be.... :)

Lucy2610 · 21/12/2015 15:34

Me too Teapot in fact son is now using my snoopy glass from when I was his age Blush
Well done Marry & Preces :)
Oh Cheesy that's lovely It's howling wine & rain outside. Lit the wood burning stove, marzipaned & iced Xmas cake & really feel like curling up & watching 'It's a wonderful life'. Nostalgic much? Grin
Stay strong sober warriors we can do this & if you've stumbled dust yourself off and on we go Flowers Chocolate

Umpteen · 21/12/2015 16:02

I am going to check in often too. I was feeling really angry and put-upon this morning - all Christmas-related stuff. It's a short jump from feeling like that to feeling like a drink will help, for me anyway. It wouldn't help, and I didn't have any. But it was a pre-wobble and a warning.

I liked what you said on that thread about why people get so stressed at Christmas, Cheesy. V measured and thoughtful.

Anyway, Flowers and Brew to all of us.

CheesyNachos · 21/12/2015 16:26

Thanks Umpteen.:) Thanks Lucy.

OP posts:
donajimena · 21/12/2015 17:48

I'm afraid to say I had a little drink last night because I was stressed and its Christmas...Unfortunately I hadn't eaten yesterday and when I went to bed the room started to spin. I was actually sick. Blush
Now this was no binge I probably had two glasses at most (big glasses though)
I don't know whether it was the reduced tolerance and empty stomach or a bug (doubtful)
I'm more than happy to be AF now. How many more warnings does someone need?
I'm done with it. Luckily I am more than used to AF evenings now.

CheesyNachos · 21/12/2015 18:28

Hey there dona. So sorry you were ill. Thanks

OP posts:
CheesyNachos · 21/12/2015 18:53

dona has the stress eased a bit today?

How is everyone? Sorry..... I hate to be a total pain by posting lots, but I need the check-ins. I really just want to go to bed, but can't with guests right now!

OP posts:
donajimena · 21/12/2015 18:58

I'm still stressed but no urge to drink. To be honest I didn't have an urge yesterday I just thought I would Confused well that ended well! Bloody pointless.

Lucy2610 · 21/12/2015 20:42

All okay here Cheesy When can you sneak off to bed?

Dona bugger and sorry to hear you were ill. Onwards!

Hadron21 · 21/12/2015 20:48
