Poll - how often do you have sex?

And who wants it more, you or your partner?
And how long have you been together?

Feel free to expand on this - I'm interested in this topic as for the first time in my life as I want it more often than my partner - which is, slightly worrying so just wondering what the ratio is out there!

My libido is like a yoyo and sometimes I have to jolly myself into it, and then I love it. Weird.

Sometimes it's a quickie, sometimes it's more full on, sometimes it's fucking, sometimes it's making love. Spicing it up is the right thing to do, works for us. We occasionally talk about what we would like in bed, trying something new and so on. I find that aspect quite tricky as I was brought up to be a "lady" and not to talk about it. Which was a crap way to raise a daughter, so as much as I fight against it, I am a bit of a prude. But Dh has been fantastic in helping me open up.

Being in a really loving secure relationship is key. Intimacy creates passion for me.

whitechocolatetoblerone How do we have it so much? Because it's exciting/thrilling & never mundane. Any time of day, any room, any place. Indoors, occasionally outdoors Blush. Plenty of non-sexual affectionate touch inbetween. Him being bothered to keep the place (home) & himself in good order. House always immaculate, him ditto. A VERY healthy diet (him) & exercise routine (both) which must give us energy. Then there's the sex itself, every positon, lots of experimentation & fundamentally, no kids around. (we're both mid 40s). In the beginning I thought he took viagra because he doesn't tire, now I know he's just like that & he always takes care to make sure I'm satisfied. Good communication - the most important bit. I pray it continues for a long time yet.

At least once a day but we've only been together six months. It's still all new and exciting and there are no children!

PoundingTheStreets · 17/09/2015 00:20

Most nights if we're both at home, but not daily (shift workers who spend quote a lot of time apart as a result).

I think sex is the easiest/most used way of maintaining intimacy in a relationship. It can achieve feelings of physical closeness, emotional closeness, and excitement - all at the same time. That's why it's such an effective relationship barometer.

However, it's certainly not the only way to achieve those feelings and if you put time and effort into doing other things as a couple that can make you feel listened to/excited/affectionate, sex becomes less important - although for most people it can't be replaced completely.

IMO, it is when people use only sex as a way of expressing affection or interest in each other that one or both partners lose interest.

We met 19 years ago married for ten. Both met when we were in our 40s. Took three weeks and after the first time it was maybe 3 or 4 weekly, lasting most of the night. This continued after we were married at 9 years into the relationship. Eventually it eased to once a night ...in our 50s at this stage.

Now we are well in our 60s it's perhaps once a week, or 3 x fortnight. No longer lasts all night, but it's still quality..... if it gets to about 10
days without then I will make a move which always gets response.
Joints creak a little, and a few of the adventurous attempts have to be adjusted slightly.....bit of a laugh at that. Just keep the lubrication handy.

Anyone want a laugh. In the early days , pre marriage and pre fully living together, I always used sun shimmer instant tan. Dark brown gloopy stuff. During one night I needed lube and fished into the drawer, used the lube..And all was good. By the time we'd finished the bedclothes were on the floor. DH says... we've a problem... are you ok, you are bleeding. On went the low bedside light......the white sheets were covered ......... in sunshimmer..........., so was his bits..... One adult - ish son was in the house.... DH had brought up his 3 sons from aged 8, 12 and 14. DH still thought it was blood. I mean, what man would think of false tan. ....I put him at ease. Quiet as mice we had to strip and change the bed. And remove the evidence from about our persons. All this at 4am. Ever sine, I've kept the sunshimmer well removed from the KY Jelly :)

We have rampant rabbit stages and drought stages. We are in the rampant rabbit phase at teh minute. Its hard cause we have 2 adult kids living wiht us as well as 3 younger kids,so you get rid of one lot and the other lot comes in.

We have been together 24 years and its every night now but in a few weeks who knows.

rumpler · 17/09/2015 13:22

Once per quarter at the moment. Tragic really, I hate it.

KitZacJak · 17/09/2015 13:35

2 times a week probably. Sometime more sometimes less! I enjoy when we do it but husband probably initiates it more!!!

Moopsboopsmum · 17/09/2015 14:03

Couple of times a year, been together 8 years. Multiple MCs then bad birth injuries killed it for us. DH on very powerful ADs now,
so no sex likely for the foreseeable future. As PP said, that is just how it is for us.

TheBunnyOfDoom · 17/09/2015 14:04

We've been together two and a half years.
Have sex on average 2-3 times a week.
We both initiate it equally but in stages...so some weeks DP initiates it all the time, others it's me, others it's both of us.

We would have sex more but I have sciatica and go through phases of intense pain in my lower back and hip. DP has a dodgy knee and can't put pressure on it a lot either, which limits us as well.

We do other stuff more often though!

slightlyconfused85 · 17/09/2015 14:05

Once a week, twice if he's been away for a bit on a work trip! We are well matched and the parents of two very Young children so both happy with this. Been together 6 years

AbeSaidYes · 17/09/2015 14:07

on holiday.

We go on holiday once a year.

DreamingOfADifferentMe · 17/09/2015 14:10

Been together nearly 10 years. Before we had the two youngest children, it was four or five times a week. Now it's closer to once a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. He'd happily do it every day but he's great at telling when it's the right time to initiate. I seem to be permanently exhausted plus I have serious issues about my body, which dampens the mood for me, initially at least.

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 14:10

once every 2 weeks.

I am single but I have a very devoted lover who visits when the DC are with their Dad - which takes the edge off.

Ideally, with a live in P, I'd like sex 2-3 times a week.

floatyflo · 17/09/2015 17:43

2x week. He works nights else I'm sure it'd be more but these are his two nights off. We would both like more. He initiates it way more than I do. Although I'm trying to change that. Been together 7.5 years

ICanSeeForMiles · 17/09/2015 17:48

Been together 10 years, usually twice a week, but the last few weeks it's more like once a week. Moving house, mega stressed and knackered.
Hopefully pick up again once we move.
Usually I want it more frequently.
