Feminism - thoughts?

I am quite traditional. I don't really understand women who are so keen to 'be equal' to men. I understand that equal pay etc is something that needed to be addressed...but seriously, in today's world, is any of that even an issue anymore?

Without going into huge amounts of analysis, I think the very fact women are feminists, undermines women completely. I have a good job and feel happy with my life, and as a result I'm proud to be a woman...I enjoy organising the home, cooking and cleaning... and although I know it's not the same for everyone, I think generally women are much better and more in tune with these kinds of tasks.

There are also lots of reasons why women and men are, and always will be different. IMO I think people should get over it.

On a recent date - not sure how we got onto this topic - but the guy was very surprised I wasn't a feminist. I found this extremely unattractive.

Thoughts/opinions?

Interesting as well as witty that someone compared OP to Jeremy Clarkson. Because OP's position is very much like that of Clarkson - or Farage, for that matter - as in it's 'Here I am, in a currently very comfortable and privileged position, declaring myself a brave maverick who says the unsayable (ie wants to uphold the status quo of straight white men owning the rest of the world) and wailing that this makes me far more oppressed than anyone else,'

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 22:39

Not sure what the "white men" thing has to do with it though? why does colour have to come in here?

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 22:40

If you say so EBear.

HootyMcTooty · 22/03/2015 22:42

Because straight white men have more privilege than men of other ethnicities or sexual preferences, generally speaking.

SenecaFalls · 22/03/2015 22:43

why does colour have to come in here?

Because part of the conversation is about privilege and oppression.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 22:43

do they? when did that happen? In most cultures I see it another way entirely.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 22:45

Not sure whether white men oppressed most of the islamic states. Did they?

Not sure "white men" are more "demonic" than any other man to be fair.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 22:48

arent you being racist here?

Pretty, that's not what it means.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/03/2015 22:57

You are wrong. I've reported 2 of your posts for racism and I also suggest you read up on some history - maybe start with the British colonisation of Africa and the middle east.

YonicScrewdriver · 22/03/2015 22:57

Straight white men are more privileged than gay white men. Straight white men are more privileged than straight black men. Straight white men are more privileged than straight white women.

Please apply "as a class" to all of the above.

It says nothing about the privilege of men of other races over women of other races.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 23:02

Really? what does it "mean" then. You have just made this about culturally "white" I havent. In a free western world women are still oppressed I get that and I fight against it. But when you look at the rest of the world us "western" women have come a very long way, its not good enough though. But women from most other cultures are "head on the table" oppressed to a point that I find mind numbing. So, I wouldn't use "white man" in anything you quote, I really wouldnt.

YonicScrewdriver · 22/03/2015 23:04

Err, what?

I have no idea what you mean by this:

So, I wouldn't use "white man" in anything you quote, I really wouldnt.

You've reported me? Im a racist? OMG. This has got to stop and it will.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 23:07

Why on earth does an equality in England thing have to get to this AGAIN. Dear god. Its ridiculous.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/03/2015 23:09

UK is 26th in the world for gender equality behind South Africa, Nicaragua and Bulgaria. Rwanda has more women MPs than the UK.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 23:13

If i said to you i was raped by a black man purely because I was white what would you say? That's truly what happened to me when i was 19. We had say 4 black people in our class at school. I was very eager to understand another culture, I was honoured that anyone wanted to come and learn about where we lived and expected the same. Didnt get it. So don't you dare tell me about being racist.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/03/2015 23:15

I'm sorry about that. Flowers

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 23:16

what are the women in these countries doing about equality though? what are the women doing in these countries doing about poverty? are they just puppets?

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 23:17

So am I Tonde.

PrettyFeet · 22/03/2015 23:23

I have no malice in me towards him. We actually became friends (sounds very weird) to say that I suppose. I never hated him but he hated me for a while for being white.
