Positive Self Talk- care to try?

grumpasaur · 24/10/2014 23:33

Hello all!

I have no idea how to link to my other thread as I use MN on my mobile, but in short, I sought advice about how to reverse worrying behaviours I was seeing in myself around criticism of my self and others, obsessing over having a spotless show home, and generally feeling snippy and bitter.

Was given really good advice- one of which was to start forcing myself to practice positive rather than negative self talk.

So I start now. Every night for the next month I will come on and write down three things I am proud of- either daily accomplishments or longer term things.

Please do the same!

I am not brilliant at checking regularly, but will be on every evening at some point to add my three things (and read yours).

Anyone welcome!!

Exactly! I am sure some of mine will seem ridiculous....but they're reminders that I'm not as crap as I think I am!

I do look forward to reading everyone's posts

Hi everyone! I've missed a couple as have been away. Today I have:

  1. driven for 7 hours with DD, and had nice chats instead of falling out!
  2. remembered at the last minute to transfer cash before the direct debits go out tomorrow...
  3. helped parents (and myself) get motivated with sorting things ready for a big move. Overall - I'm at risk of being overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of stuff going on right now. But I've recognised that, and am feeling positive and therefore able to crack on little by little Grin

  1. made a supper that was universally loved by all - rare occurance
  2. finally decided on the blind & light for bathroom & bought them!
  3. whole weekend off - always a treat (can often work 2-3 Sundays a month)
kickitoutoftouch · 02/11/2014 23:32
  1. Got DS back home from staying with his Dad :)
  2. Was not too pathetic on seeing ex-p and did not beg him to get back with me Blush
  3. Its just got to be getting DS back again as it feels soooo goood

Hello all!

I have been away this weekend so just catching up.

Well done all! Keep them coming.

My three are:

  1. went to a baby shower that I was really anxious about going to due to an old friend being there who has behaved really badly and hurt me a lot

  2. managed not to pretend all was well when said friend tried to fake apologise- just shrugged and walked away, didn't engage

  3. didn't eat too much junk despite being away- feel good for it!

  1. Made myself my favourite dinner (steak, chips & salad) perfectly :)
  1. Got a lot of feministy stuff of my chest. No idea why this is so hugely important to me atm, but it is, and I'm taking the lead from another poster in assuming that my mind knows what it's doing even if I don't!
  1. I'm forgiving myself for drinking a quarter of a bottle of rum. It's not a regular occurrence by any means, and at least I'm ready to go to sleep at this almost reasonable hour.

Thank you for being here, thread Flowers

2½. Forgave self for stupid 'of' instead of 'off'!

FelixTitling · 03/11/2014 14:36

Have missed a couple of days due to crazy weekend. So:

  1. Survived crazy weekend!
  2. Got dc's back to school and myself back to work on time.
  3. Have made a plan for dealing with fil when he visits tonight. And if the plan doesn't work, I may resort to plan b and just put salt in his coffee.

plus3 I love a line of washing too. I have no idea why it's so uplifting, but it is.

GarlicNovember · 03/11/2014 16:06

I've just moved to a flat with no outside space - and discovered that looking at sheets drying in the airing cupboard's very nearly as satisfying as watching them on the line! I keep going to 'turn them round' Hmm Confused Grin

Today's things I am proud of:
Went to a funeral, and supported a friend be there. Held it together, with a few tears, which felt right. (a good few more when I got home).
Handled a work problem calmly and effectively (was at work before and after the funeral).
Early night - which is what my body needs.
Hope you are all doing well this evening even if in difficult circumstances.

Scottishmumofgirls · 03/11/2014 22:21

Things I am proud of today.

1.managed to solve a technological problem that is going to let me deliver therapy faster. Better for me and better for clients, and definitely a weight off my shoulders.

  1. Hopefully have managed to put something in place that will help my student.
  2. Took dd to youth club and had nice chats on the way there and home.
grumpasaur · 03/11/2014 22:23

Hello all!

Garlic, thank you- I now want steak :-). Admittedly I am very easily swayed.

My there for today:

  1. made delicious Moroccan stew for dinner, when I really wanted to just wait and make DH do the cooking

  2. managed to get on the mat after a two day hiatus... Back on for day seven, even though many excuses were presenting themselves.

  3. bought myself some lovely dresses which aren't really my normal style. One worked and one is going back... But nice to break out of comfort zone!

  2. PE kits washed, homework done, early nights had - back to school tomorrow after a lovely half term
  3. had a nice bit of cake & a frothy coffee
MamaMed · 04/11/2014 07:02

For yesterday:

  1. Played with DD
  2. Cooked her dinner that she liked
  3. Managed to have a long nap in the afternoon.
plus3 · 04/11/2014 22:35

Evening all..

  1. got lots of little jobs done - do like to cross things off the list
  2. friend back for a cup of tea after school pick up - kids played, we chatted
  3. another friend allowed me to use her 50% white stuff discount!!
Noregrets78 · 04/11/2014 23:50

The decluttering to prepare for big move continues! Today I have been epic.

  1. contacted a range of removals firms and now have appointments for quotes.
  2. had a lovely time helping DD decide what to keep, she's is equally as awesome as me.
  3. finally put in place a date for moving which allows me to plan more and sets a firm deadline. All while doing a full day at work too Grin
FelixTitling · 06/11/2014 21:50

Hi folks.
my three today:

  1. I have dug out my pedometer and resolved to start wearing it every day again. Had to use the car for work today but still managed 6700 steps.
  2. Didn't force the dcs to eat my homemade delicious Sicilian Squash Stew, but did them some fish fingers and chips. They'd both had stressful days and we just needed a nice happy tea time. Which we did.
  3. Got the car washed! dh has been nagging me to get this done since about July. Finally managed it.
CurtWild · 06/11/2014 21:58

Hi all..been offline for a while but here are my 3 for today after an atrocious few days:

  1. Could finally afford to kit my DC out with winter coats so had a nice little 'spree'
  2. Treat myself to a costa coffee
  3. Stuck to my guns whilst stbxh has been trying to push boundaries this week (even though it's wearing me out)

Good to catch up with the thread Smile

FelixTitling · 07/11/2014 23:43

Wow, what a day. But...

  1. kept my cool when faced with massive unprofessionalism from someone I have to deal with on a fairly regular basis. (sorry to be a bit vague with that one)
  2. dealt calmly with dd's tears and tantrums. (a recurring theme)
  3. gave myself a break and ordered pizza.
