Hello, I'm Mouse :)

Welcome to the thread, or our mythical Bus called Gerald! Grin

There is room for everyone. Always

There is help for everyone who wants it. Always

There is unconditional support and kindness. Always

We have two sentences that we believe in here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

No matter what it is that you drink, how much, how often, we've ALL been in your position at one point or another...... so most of us WILL know exactly what it's like to be YOU

If you'd like to read the last thread, it's below -

THIS IS THE PREVIOUS THREAD

And if you want to read a pretty sobering thread and the history behind these many, the reason why we are all here, fighting to stay/get sober is here -

FIRST EVER BRAVE BABES THREAD

Hope to see you soon :)

Night all,

Came very, very close to opening a bottle tonight. No particular reason other than being a bit hungry. We ate at 8 ish which is usual time and if it had been any later than I would be down by most of a bottle.

I'm good now,all fine. Not sure that I'll ever be free of the cravings for wine though. I think that in my case I'll just stay as sober as I can for as long as i can- no big promises of staying sober forever.

Strange because it's been a great day. Where the fuck does the ww come from?

beachestoexplore · 01/09/2014 22:31

guggs huge well done for resisting tonight. It sounds like old saggy tits made a beeline for you with the element of surprise. Here, have a goat on me Smile

Crickey Ma that pound must have just evaporated into thin air Shock hope that happens to my flabby arse

guggenheim · 02/09/2014 07:39

Thanks beaches happy to accept goat Smile. I don't know what happened really!

Morning all Smile

PhraseAndFable · 02/09/2014 07:50

Morning!

I managed my first night without drinking - feeling great this morning after a proper night's sleep. Woke up without that sense of dread.

I did two things yesterday that I was scared of:

  1. Going to the dentist
  2. Staying sober
And both turned out great. Half the time I don't give myself any credit for the good stuff, just worry and focus on the bad. So I need to remind myself to be proud now and again Smile

Of course, this is the relatively easy bit. Not having a drink after a few days of being sober will be a challenge - the WW has a good line in wheedling once I'm no longer feeling sick and desperate for sleep.

Anne, you are fantastic. Ice cream is infinitely better than wine: no amount of ice cream will rob you of yourself.

guggs, being hungry is a massive trigger for me too.

Waves at everyone else Smile very glad to be back!

spanna41 · 02/09/2014 08:02

Morning All

Well done for resisting Guggs have a good day today Smile

Fable keep going lovely. Well done for visit to the Dentist Smile

Off to work soon, tissue paper flowers this morning and board games this afternoon. Must get to know more of my lovely oldies, I really hate being the new girl Hmm

Managed to get both DDs school shoes without too much drama, just a huge dent in my bank account (which had very little in it anyway)

Have a good day everyone Smile

Day 30 Shock can't sleep at the mo but I think it's down to new job.

spanna41 · 02/09/2014 08:05

Fable be very proud, you're 'doing it' which is Fab Grin

PizzaMama · 02/09/2014 08:10

Day 1 of Sober September complete!!!!!!! Grin Grin Grin

(Luckily I felt really ropey yesterday so I went straight to bed when I got home) which made it easier for me. The real test will be over the next few days....

PhraseAndFable · 02/09/2014 08:28

wooooooooop Pizza! Smile

I'll do Day 2 with you today.

I'm planning a run and a tasty dinner to help me focus. I find it really helps if I consciously find other 'day' markers to focus on: like 'eat nice dinner', 'watch programme I enjoy', even 'chat on MN' Smile, rather than 'Have drink'.

It's kind of like weight training. I feel like I'm physically lifting my mind and plonking it down on a different track. 'Thinking about having a drink' and 'Thinking about not having a drink' are, in fact, both the track marked 'Drink', and thinking about not doing it just as often leads to drinking for me.

My worst time is early evening, in the couple of hours before DH gets home (7pm). In my bad days I'd cram a few drinks in then so that I could still have a couple when he got home and I'd look 'moderate' Blush

Letting him make dinner helps as well, as my drinking's kitchen-focused.

Thanks spanna!

Fairenuff · 02/09/2014 08:39

I'll join anyone doing day 2 today. Or day 1 for that matter. Also jumping on the weight loss/healthy eating bandwagon (love a bandwagon me, I'll join anything). Not running though.

I'm aiming to keep busy by 'pottering'. Little odd jobs that I've put off (like sorting photographs, etc.) lots of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and an early night with a good book.

Have already washed the bedding and it's drying on the line so I can look forward to my lovely fresh laundry. Simple pleasures Smile

PizzaMama · 02/09/2014 08:58

I can't do healthy eating at the same time (I'm a comfort eater) but I'm interested to see what my weight is at the end of the month (if I stay dry)! I'm currently 18/20 and like my vodka with full fat coke or cherryade.

The first thing I normally do when DD goes to bed is crack open the vodka so need something else to do - hmmm perhaps some really shite TV Grin

PhraseAndFable · 02/09/2014 09:20

We've just started watching series 1 of Six Feet Under (it's a box-set thing on Sky): it's bloody brilliant!

PizzaMama · 02/09/2014 09:22

I'm thinking more along the lines of something with wives in the title, real housewives or mob wives Blush Blush

littlewhitebag · 02/09/2014 09:25

That's me done day 1 of AF, healthy eating and increased exercise (well 8 miles walking with the dog).

Yesterday i ate the healthiest food in the world but unfortunately my stomach did not agree and i was like Vesuvius all evening. DH went and slept in the spare room it was that bad Blush.

Even the dog is giving me "wtf is that smell" faces and that is saying something from a creature whose favourite smell is Eau de Fox poo!

Now i need to go an confess to DD1 that i reversed into her beloved car when i took DD2 to school this morning.

Hello all bus people, welcome to Tuesday. How are we all today?

aliasjoey · 02/09/2014 09:26

Morning babes

Bought some wine yesterday, but didn't want to drink 4 days in a row - so left it in the car. (this is to create a barrier so that if tempted I have to go outside in the dark in front of the neighbours)

Now I've remembered about Sober September too. Also wondering if excess alcohol is worsening the thrush I keep getting (Remember 'Boil-a-Bra' ?)

So Day 2, and will not be drinking today.

PhraseAndFable · 02/09/2014 09:29

Sounds good pizza!

I'm obsessed with Catfish: truly trash TV where 2 American guys find out the true identity of someone that a person is having an Internet romance with. Most of the time they're startlingly not like they said they were (half the time not even the same gender).

It's a guilty pleasure.

What kind of dog you got, little?

littlewhitebag · 02/09/2014 09:32

Phase I have a yellow lab. She is 2 years old and the loveliest, waggiest companion anyone could want.

littlewhitebag · 02/09/2014 09:33

Sorry, i mean phrase Blush

PizzaMama · 02/09/2014 09:53

Oooh, I LOVE Catfish! Nev is sooooo tasty!

clickers123 · 02/09/2014 09:54

Hello. I'm new to the bus. I won't bore you with a long thread to start with but I've been inspired by you all and want to cut back on my drinking. I'm an expat living in a hot country. We live in a village and part of our routine is drinks out at six then dinner at home. Lately I've started worrying about drinking every night. Tonight I'm staying home, alcohol free. Thanks for listening! Feel a bit jittery if you know what I mean...

PhraseAndFable · 02/09/2014 11:34

I'm more of a Max fan myself, pizza Wink

little, I am jealous. I love Labs.

Hi clickers. I'm new too - well, a new returner anyway. Jittery is normal! I find the booze feeds the jitters, so you'll probably feel a fair bit better tomorrow. You can do it! Smile

Does your hot country have lovely food? Much like Labradors, I am food-orientated . . .

clickers123 · 02/09/2014 13:54

Thank you phrase . I'm tucked up in bed reading Last Train to Istanbul. Feel ok. 6pm til 7pm was hard. DH and I walked our dogs. That helped! Tomorrow will be hard. I'm having dinner with my friend. She can't understand anyone not drinking. I have dinner once a week with her so Tuesdays will be challenging. Day 1 over and out.

clickers123 · 02/09/2014 13:57

Ps. I live in Asia! But had pizza tonight!!!

venusandmars · 02/09/2014 14:42

joey - thrush and alcohol.... just google it.

Alcohol
In excess kills off friendly bacteria, increases toxic overload of the liver, and allow candida overgrowth dysbiosis. Add to this dilemma the fact that alcohol is actually a yeast by-product and you can see the potential problems. People with extreme CO can have high blood alcohol levels and literally be drunk, just from eating sugar. This moderate “high” is one explanation for intense sugar cravings. There is another interesting aspect to alcohol and yeast. Every living thing that eats must create waste on the other end. Usually that waste is toxic (poisonous) to the organism. Not so with yeast.

The alcoholic by –products it creates can actually serve as a fertilizer to help it grow further. This explains why various researchers have indicated that everyone who drinks alcohol regularly (daily or a few times weekly) is likely harboring Candida Overgrowth.

venusandmars · 02/09/2014 14:42

^^ that was a copy and paste by the way - not me speaking Grin

venusandmars · 02/09/2014 14:53

fable you should be proud of yourself lots and lots, not just now and again - dentist, sober, facing your demons. You go girl Smile. And have you read about HALT? These are some of the most common reasons why people drink: H - hungry; A - angry; L - lonely; T - tired.

So, if you feel hungry what should you do? Eat something - soup, ice cream, cheese, a bagel.....
If you feel angry what should you do? Shout. Write it down. Explode with anger. Go in the garden and throw stones around. Work out what you're angry about. Forgive them. Forgive yourself. Shout some more.
If you feel lonely what should you do? Call a friend, stroke your pet, visit an old lady, get on mumsnet and post a reply to something, go to a yoga class.
If you feel tired what should you do? Go to your most comfortable place, rest, stroke your comfort blanket, have a warm bath, lay on your back with your feet up the wall to relax your toes, sleep.

Personally, I'd add another letter: B for bored - a bored head, a bored mouth, bored hands. So knot or crochet. Each big chewy toffees, do sudokos or puzzles. And you know you don't have to be making anything when you knit, and you don't have to be getting the puzzles right - it is enough just to be doing it.
