Congratulations in the interview Flowers
Well done DS1Waves Wine[Ribena]

FABULOUS!!

AgathaF · 05/09/2013 13:14

Wow. Good luck for tomorrow, and well done to your DS1 for his winning design.

wavesandsmiles · 05/09/2013 13:49

Sorry you had bad news today MissS.

I'm looking forward to going up to school to collect DS1 and DD and share the various pieces of good news. They are desperate for me to secure a job offer as I told them that when I do I'll be able to afford to reinstate their pocket money...

I did have a bit of a cry last night. Spent all day expressing enough milk for a nighttime bottle (3 goes, each time having to resterlise the breast pump etc), and then I didn't realise there was an extra seal on these new bottles, and left it out. I couldn't work out why Caspian was drinking so fast, then I realised he was sopping wet. Pretty much all of that milk had spilled out the bottle. I had also just bathed him so then he was all sticky as well. And that milk was all wasted Sad.

At least I know not to do that again...

OP posts:
MissStrawberry · 05/09/2013 13:52

We've all done that with milk!

GoodtoBetter · 05/09/2013 14:28

I don't think you need to sterilise a pump between expressing, do you? Just a good clean? Maybe I'm wrong.

AgathaF · 05/09/2013 14:49

Waves - not sure if this would help, but could you express any at night? If he takes both sides at night it's probably not practical, but that is when your milk supply is at its best so you might be able to get more off and quicker.

Thumbwitch · 05/09/2013 14:59

I wouldn't (and didn't) re-sterilise my pump if I used it more than once in a day, I have to say - although I did rinse it with boiling water (not quite as arduous as a full sterilisation) if I left it for more than 4h between use.

Bugger re. the missing seal and milk wastage :(

And hurrah for excellent interviews thus far; hope that you do brilliantly in the next one too. x

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 05/09/2013 15:26

Not posting here much but lovely to lurk and so glad things are going well (milk spills excepted). Best of luck with job interview tomorrow and hope new lodger gets sorted.

Agatha put it well blue skies on the horizon.

PS well done DS1!

BerylStreep · 05/09/2013 16:03

I aways used to leak furiously out of the other breast, and instead of using breast pads, I used those nipple cup thingies to collect the leaked milk, meaning I never really needed to express.

I think Avent did them

BerylStreep · 05/09/2013 16:07

Oh, meant to say good luck with the interview, well done on your lodger, and well done to DS on the art competition, you bunch of high achievers! Grin

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 05/09/2013 18:35

Fabulous news waves for DS1. Not so good re bath/milk drama but its a lesson learned.

Will be cheering you on all day tomorrow

ThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksWineWineWineGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

MissStrawberry · 05/09/2013 20:07

I was going to suggest was BerylS did. I used something similar to these, mine were Avent.

BerylStreep · 05/09/2013 20:29

Yy MissStrawberry, those are the things! Gosh, how quickly we forget.

I have just recalled that I always had to remember to empty them before lying down, otherwise you get an armpit full of breast milk Grin

pointythings · 05/09/2013 22:27

I never sterilised between same day expressing sessions at work, I think it's fine not to. YY to breast shells for collecting milk from the other side, it's amazing how much you can get!

And I am completely stunned with admiration at the way your job hunting is going, waves. You deserve the most fabulous senior well paid enjoyable job in the world, I hope you get it.

Orianne · 06/09/2013 07:49

Good luck waves xx

BIWI · 06/09/2013 08:17

Good luck, waves. Sounds like a marathon! Flowers

wavesandsmiles · 06/09/2013 19:21

Well I survived the marathon interview and pretty sure I did myself proud. Got all the issues identified (and then some) in the case studies, and whilst it was exhausting, really quite enjoyed using my brain! It was hard to be apart from Caspian, (3 hour stint before my hours break to see him and feed him) but thankfully I won't have to do that again for a while. I should hear back from them next week which is fairly exciting...

MissStrawberry · 06/09/2013 19:45

Good luck!

I would suggest you do have to wash and sterilise your breast pump if you are going more than a few minutes between expressing. I remember you could only use formula up to one hour after being made and I would think any milk left on the pump wouldn't be fresh.

I just googled as I thought I was probably wrong with ^ and yes, I am it says -

After Each Use

It is not necessary to sterilise the breastpump parts after each use as long as you do so at least once a day. If you are expressing milk for a sick or hospitalised baby, you will need to be more careful and we suggest that you follow more stringent cleaning instructions as advised by your health professional). Wash all parts of the breastpump that come in contact with your breast and the expressed milk in warm, soapy water. Rinse in clear water and allow the parts to air dry on a clean towel. Use a damp (not wet) cloth to wipe the motor unit of electrical pumps after each use, ensuring that the breastpump is diconnected from the mains.

Hygiene

When you are not using the breastpump, wrap all parts in a clean towel or store in a dedicated container. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your breast and the breastpump parts and try and avoid touching the inside of bottles and lids. Before expressing, clean your breast and the surrounding area with a damp cloth. Do not use soap or alcohol which can dry the skin and cause cracked nipples. Medela products are not designed to be sterilised in a microwave.

MissStrawberry · 06/09/2013 19:47

Their typos, not mine!

SuffragetteCity · 06/09/2013 20:57

Ahhhhh, the agony of wasting expressed milk, I remember it well!

Congrats to you Waves on the good interview, I have everything crossed for you!

Well done to your DS1, too! Grin

wavesandsmiles · 07/09/2013 10:12

Why, when I am so clearly coping admirably by myself, and have proven I don't "need" anyone, am I seriously contemplating getting back together with twunt?

My scales from the eyes moment definitely worked, he is so much more of a human to me, but for some reason I do not understand, I want to be with him. How can this be? He's been so awful....truly appalling to me. And yet I am thinking that the pressures on him were immense. And that I do love him , perhaps more for being fallible, and not being the perfect Prince Charming. But this is crazy isn't it?!

Or is this just me playing with my self destruct button....

Waves I'm delurking to tell you to stop. Reread all your threads to remind yourself of what you went through and how he treated you. Please, don't go there. I truly believe that how someone treats you when you are at your worst is a good sign of their true character. And he treated you appallingly.

mistlethrush · 07/09/2013 10:44

Look at Caspian Waves - if you had listened to him, Caspian would not be in your arms.
