Snape, it was my late mum's birthday yesterday ... it's hard, isn't it.

Yoga, the job/house situation sounds so hard. Ive always planned to go back to work when DS starts school, but I've realised it's going to be really hard to find anything, especially anything fitting in with school hours. Really hoping something comes up for you soon.

Western, yay for coffee!

smoothieooo · 05/11/2012 15:04

Hello all

It's taken a lo-o-ng time to catch up with where everyone is at and it's like being on a roller coaster.

I have my first date in 17 years on Sunday. With the man who is too far away (in Cambridge to my North London) and I'm terrified. We've been emailing for 2 weeks - and there's not been a particularly flirty vibe, which I actually really appreciated. I had the choice of Fri/Sat or Sun but chose Sunday as it seems more low key.

All via email as I haven't spoken to him - or even exchanged texts yet - and feel like an awkward teenager. Blush

bantamrooster · 05/11/2012 15:15

yay smoothie. Remember, men from Cambridge are fantastic, speaking as one myself, but also don't expect too much from a first First date. My first online date I went into it thinking it would be fantastic and there just wasn't a spark - she was nice enough but it just didn't click. I've only found there to be mutual chemistry with 1 out of every 3 or 4 people I've met in person, no matter how good the emails and chats were beforehand.

Don't assume there will be thunderbolts, and if there are any, then great. It's just meeting someone for a drink, you may like them or not.

smoothieooo · 05/11/2012 15:31

I know Bantam and I'm genuinely not expecting fireworks and declarations of love but it will be great to have a glass of wine and a conversation with A MAN! It's been lovely exchanging a couple of emails every evening and if Sunday is hideous and either he or I are physically repulsed then it may all come to an end.

I did tell him to look out for the hairy-arsed (male) biker with neck tattoos and he just said that if that were the case, would have some issues with my Match photos. Grin

bantamrooster · 05/11/2012 15:36

That is one thing about online dating that amuses me so much. All the tossers on there, married or otherwise, who are obviously just looking for cybersex with any woman out there - and when they do get it, it's likely to be with a bloke from Nigeria (or possibly Birmingham) hiding behind an attractive womans profile.

Of course they give the rest of us a bad name, but I still find it amusing

WarmFuzzyFun · 05/11/2012 16:11

Hi everyone,

Sorry that so many are feeling a bit down/fed up with things, room for one ore (ie me)! (I am going to be extra kind to me.)

Thanks for the woo, which I only believe if it is:

  1. Says good things in relation to my hopes;
  2. Comes true.

See, a reasoned approach as always Smile

POf sounds like a baptism of fireShock

MsCellophane · 05/11/2012 16:17

Today is the day of super neediness in the world of POF

I'm still on IE, today I have had 12 men message me once, then again asking if I got the 1st message, then again asking why won't I speak to them, then again saying they are fantastic people and I'm missing a treat - 12 men!! Not exactly the same each time obviously but good grief!

And now this gem has just come through.....

ey babes hows u? jus wnderin wud u show me ur cleavage while listenin to me wank for £500? no strings.. i`ll send u it however u want.. by post or online bank transfer (depending what bank your with) its a decent amount for a one off hun wud be just between us.. if i wasnt serious i wudnt have any pics let alone 2 dif ones. can we talk a bit more about it on msn or skype? pics of the money below..

WTAF???

OhWesternWind · 05/11/2012 16:17

PoF is great!! Must stick up for it as that's where I met lovely lovely (note the two lovelys today) man. AND had no rude photos or requests for same, either. No idea why not, probably because I'm a forbidding old trout and come across as such even on PoF . . . Give it a go, see what happens. You can always come off again if it's a bit much!

OhWesternWind · 05/11/2012 16:19

PoF IE might be a bit too scary though . . . Blimey, MsC!

raskolnikov · 05/11/2012 16:35

He could buy himself a decent dictionary AND get lessons in English grammar for £500!! Grin

lubeybooby · 05/11/2012 17:05

Yikes MsCello! why on earth would he want someone on a dating site to do that when it would cost him about 20 quid on webcam wank sites Confused

I reckon he gets off on the idea of getting someone to agree to it. Then would feck off!

OP posts:
Lueji · 05/11/2012 17:20

Ask him to send him the money, MrsC.
Get a POBox or something. :o

what time is Sponge 2nd date? Keeping fingers firmly cross

Lueji · 05/11/2012 17:21

crossed even, although they might be cross at lc if he messes up.

lulubellaboozle · 05/11/2012 17:34

delurking to say, are these POF profiles for real? or are they actually people messing around with too much time on their hands? do people really spell like that ..... do men really offer £500 to someone to listen to them wank?

eyes have been well and truly opened wide ......

(darts back into the darkness again)

AndLibbyMakesThree · 05/11/2012 17:46

Lueji, am also excited by Sponge's second date - and will also be VERY cross if LC messes up.

Lulu, don't know about POF - I've never been brave enough to sign up! Have stuck with the (relatively) unscary Match and GSM.

Worley · 05/11/2012 18:16

bantam.. im near cambs you could have been coming up in my searches!
I joined POF last night and messaged bloke near me, but not looked on today yet..

Movingforward123 · 05/11/2012 18:18

mrsc I would say yes I'll do it but you want the money first!! Lol GrinGrin

snapespeare · 05/11/2012 19:55

Back early, perfectly nice bloke, no spark. Very clever, a bit intellectually challenging and possibly a bit angry. No deal. Plus I have developed terrible sneezy cold, so was very attractive with my dripping nose. Meh.

bantamrooster · 05/11/2012 20:06

hey snape. Sorry, was this a mr haha or a short fat bald guy. Or a shaver? There are so many stories going on now it's difficult to keep track

snapespeare · 05/11/2012 20:11

All three, mr haha, the short bald shaver. Must say he didn't look bad for 50.

TessoftheAngels · 05/11/2012 20:13

Seems like it's a bad day for OD. My date was alot older than his pic, was quite opinioated, definately no spark.
I'm also in Cambs, looks like there are quite a few of us on here Smile
Fingers croosed Sponge is having a great time!

TessoftheAngels · 05/11/2012 20:15

Arrgh opinionated obviously, not opinioated!

KirstyWirsty · 05/11/2012 20:30

There is a surgeon who has a witty name and seems nice .. Wants me to text him .. Should I ???

OhWesternWind · 05/11/2012 20:31

See yesterday(?)'s posts re surgeons ... But why the hell not?

AndLibbyMakesThree · 05/11/2012 21:00

Well, I got an e-mail from Mr Coffee, but it's very hard to tell if he's seeing it as a 'friends' thing or potentially more than that.

Bantam, could I have a male view, please? If you're on a date with someone, would you generally make the first move, or would you expect them to do it?

Sorry ... I'm rubbish at these kinds of things.
