Well, you know what I think Sponge, cos I've told you hundreds of times you are aiming beneath you when it comes to men. And if you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got Wink You need to aim higher. MUCH higher!! I think that when you are ready to start OD again you should do an experiment, no dates with builders or scaffolders, only dates with men who are a match for you intellectually. They can't all be wankers, surely? Grin

MsArseBiscuit · 16/09/2012 13:27

Breaking news, you can use either 'penises' or 'penes' according to some very long, Latin quoting article that I studied intently (skimmed through) .
'How I weary of the plethora of bizarre penes in my inbox'

MirandaWest · 16/09/2012 13:32

I've had a couple of unrequested cocks. I do wonder why on earth anyone would think it would be a turn on but hey....

I have restarted couch to 5k as I seem to have been eating rather more lately. And although plenty of horizontal exercise seemingly not enough to actually help shift anything. Mr Nice has now also taken up running. Don't think entirely to do with me but does at least mean I am unlikely to stop (shows competitive nature). Although no running together. I do not do that Grin

hatesponge · 16/09/2012 13:33

Time Grin that might be a worthwhile experiment! I hardly ever get any interest from non-builders though - someone said upthread (cant remember who - sorry) about men bragging about their qualifications etc, I can safely say I have NEVER had even one message in which someone has said that. It would be quite nice if they did or had any qualifications to brag about Grin

The only man I've ever had a date with who was on my intellectual level was the Barbour. But he was also an arse, unfortunately.

Scattylatte · 16/09/2012 13:47

How does one upscale a profile? Mine needs upping as well. I get some serious low life's.
Just a phone conversation with a man from pof. He's been on it for 4 years on and off, he seems to know the whole Internet dating thing so well. I felt the energy draining out of me during the conversation and I don't know why. O yes I do. He didn't let me finish a sentence before he started talking....and he was a serial Internet dater. Nightmare.

MadameOvary · 16/09/2012 13:51

Scatty and anyone else- PM me your profile and I'll have a go at upscaling it if you like. I am world class at sounding snobby Grin

MsArseBiscuit · 16/09/2012 13:52

Hatesponge, that might have been me with Mr Grated Scrotum who claimed to have a Masters ( and didn't ). Have you tried making tweaks to your profile, does that make any difference ? I'm very new to this whole OD lark so I'm not entirely sure what works and what doesn't, my own profile is quite short, fairly non-serious ( apart from the bit where I say I like men who can spell ) and avoids what I thought were cliches about liking seeing friends and going for walks in the countryside, and it seems to attract a wide-ish range of men.

TimeForMeAndDD · 16/09/2012 13:52

Right then Sponge, we will do it!! Grin I do think you will have to find a better site than POF though, one that is a bit more upmarket and aimed at professionals. You need to do something, cos dating the same kind of men is getting you nowhere! Apart from depressed!

Or you could add a bit at the bottom of your profile 'Only professional men with an income in the higher tax bracket need apply' Grin

Scattylatte · 16/09/2012 13:59

Haha. Time I will try that one....ok here goes.

hatesponge · 16/09/2012 14:00

MsA I have tried tweaking my profile in the past, it doesn't make much difference really. I think Time is right and I may need (when and if I can ever face OD again!) to try a different more upmarket site - because on POF pretty much all I get are manual workers.

The other problem is I don't look like the job I have - if that makes sense. When I was going out in my 20s, I used to tell men I met that I worked for a law firm. All of them without exception assumed I was the receptionist or secretary Hmm

Scattylatte · 16/09/2012 14:04

Ok I've inserted the tax bracket statement. Copyright to time
Sponge people do have preconceived ideas of what you should be like. When you told these men what you do for a living their peneses would shrink!

hatesponge · 16/09/2012 14:09

Scatty you'll have to let us know what response you get re the tax bracket! I may have to bear that one in mind :)

Whenever I tell men what I do, they are Shock.

And then try and tap me for free legal advice Hmm

TimeForMeAndDD · 16/09/2012 14:10

Grin Scatty It will get you some attention even if it doesn't get you the high income. I wrote a very 'to the point' profile a few months back and it got me more attention than I had ever had, apart from when we did the IE experiment. Men are attracted to a woman who knows what she wants Wink

Yes, Sponge, Time is right Wink. I am looking forward to you starting The Experiment now.

TimeForMeAndDD · 16/09/2012 14:12

Sponge have you tried fibbing about what you do for a job? Tell them you have a market stall selling knickers or something, see what happens then. Maybe the men wouldn't feel as intimidated by a knicker seller as they do a Lawyer. Grin You should try it, as part of The Experiment.

Scattylatte · 16/09/2012 14:18

Haha. Yes! Let's have loads of experiements running!
I'm on pof and Okc.
Okc is slightly better, But my god, blokes dont half write a load of bollocks on there.

hatesponge · 16/09/2012 14:23

Time I don't often tell dates, I got fed up with them asking for advice about divorces, buying houses, criminal charges etc etc - so now I tend to leave it at 'work at a law firm' unless they ask if I'm a secretary, but mostly they don't ask anything more! I never told the scaffolder (but as when I told him I'd been to university he was literally Shock it's probably just as well...).

hatesponge · 16/09/2012 14:25

Scatty I find OKC really irritating, the men are a bit too wordy for my liking. And the only men who message me are really very odd - as opposed to POF where they're just pervy!

mercury7 · 16/09/2012 15:55

I dont blame you for fancying builders Sponge, they tend to have better physiques, the proto-hominid personalities are a bit of a stumbling block though:o

I find OKC pretentious with the odd chav, POF is just chav central

mercury7 · 16/09/2012 16:29

experiments Scatty ok, I have just put a profile up on a site that says I'm looking for a fit young stud to entertain me:o

As it happens there were quite a few of them in the gym today...but, hmm bit to close to home it would just be too inconvenient if I ended up wanting to change gyms!

OhWesternWind · 16/09/2012 16:34

So, does anyone have any recommendations for a good site for well-off professionals then? Am getting a bit fed up with PoF which is the only one I'm on at the mo. Need a bit of class in my men! Class and a good body even better!

fayster · 16/09/2012 17:32

GSM? Someone one while back suggested the Telegraph's equivalent, but I don't think I could bring myself to date anyone who read the Telegraph...

A friend recently suggested Muddy Matches - farmers and other solid countryside types - if you don't mind the hunting contingent.

I dunno, I have yet to read a profile male or female on any site that didnt make me cringe for one reason or another, online dating has fast tracked me to full blown misanthropy:o

mercury7 · 16/09/2012 17:51

sheesh, a virgo masquerading as a capricorn...that really takes the biscuit!

ChelseaGirl86 · 16/09/2012 18:03

I actually despair! I know I'll be laughing about it in a couple of weeks but he actually told me he thought he loved me, blah blah blah. Lesson learnt - trust no-one!
