Morning all.

Talking of Toast Toppers, he took 2 tins of that as well. Yes, really.

My pantry is now full of Heinz cheese ravioli and Tesco sausage and beans.

I'm just relieved that chuntney twatface didn't take the gardening stuff.

garlicnuts · 26/08/2012 21:58

You lot are killing me with your CHEESE and BUTTER! I've had to go dairy-free. I browse dairy counters like a dirty old man looking at the lads' mags. Melted cheese is a forbidden pleasure

And I have no pikelets/crumpets :( Am going to make some Scotch pancakes. With oil and water (it works). That'll show ya!

AlfalfaMum · 26/08/2012 22:04

Give me crumpets over hot tubs any day, Lou.
Very hard to find crumpets in Ireland, alas. M&S are my only safe bet.

And Porto is spot on about cheese and pickle on crumpets, it fucking ROCKS. Bollocks to it, I'm going to have to go to M&S tomorrow.

mistlethrush · 26/08/2012 22:10

ALfalfa - I can't think that pikelets would be too difficult to make - certainly easier than crumpets

Allalonenow · 26/08/2012 22:11

Freezers were invented for crumpets Alfalafa!

tara0202 · 26/08/2012 22:23

Mmmm, crumpets with butter and jam for my.supper then!

Glad u had a nice day with your friends even if the bbq wasn't for you (hot tubs at a bbq full.of people who don't all.know each other? Shock

My fave veggie bbq food is hallumi or paneer and veg kebabs.

I also do veggie chilli (usually Asda veggie mince) and then wrap the chilli into burritos, loads of cheese and sour cream.

I'm starving now,.off for my crumpet!

Portofino · 26/08/2012 22:36

Delhaize in Belgium does Hovis crumpets and english muffins. I do prefer the Warburtons ones from the British Store though. And they stock Waitrose stuff so I can pretend to be posher than I really am.

stifnstav · 26/08/2012 22:43

The bbq sounds like a deleted scene from Ron Burgundy. Were people wearing suede?!

Glad you did something more productive!

Heleninahandcart · 26/08/2012 22:48

Ahem. It is now 22.44 on a Sunday night and there is nowhere to get crumpets. I have butter, I have runny honey.

Lou, hot tubs at a bbq? No one needs that at the best of times Grin Wishing you a peaceful day tomorrow.

HappySunflower · 26/08/2012 22:48

Crumpets are great.

We also like them smothered in Taramasalata, or houmous.

I'm rather peckish now!

Coconutter · 26/08/2012 23:07

Crumpets + Lurpak + Lyle's golden syrup = bliss Grin

Oh - this is low carb hell! I felt bad for sneaking a bit of dd's savoury popcorn at the cinema earlier, after I had eyed up the m and m.s.

garlicnuts · 26/08/2012 23:56

OOh, South! Now there's a blast from the distant past!

If baked/toasted: white sugar, optional cinnamon. If fresh: brown sugar.
:) :) :) :) :)

I'm planning to make these Gingerbread Pancakes for breakfast tomorrow, minus the parma ham

:)

SeymoreInOz · 27/08/2012 01:06

The crumpets here are weird. There was much confusion when I started helping out at the school canteen and everyone was talking about crumpets when in actual fact they were English muffins.

I wonder if I can make my own crumpets....

MovingGal · 27/08/2012 01:50

Agree Bossybritches this is why I too love MN Thanks

Agree with hot tubs being the devils work - germ soup Yuck!

So Seymore the ones with the holes in - are they not crumpets in UK?
The ones that come as sort of round bread that you split - are they not english muffins in UK?
The big cake things are muffins (US) - Now I want a Muffin Break Mars Bar Muffin but am too fluey to leave the house Sad.......

bogeyface · 27/08/2012 02:12

Crumpet recipe

Must be eaten with butter and sometimes Marmite. Anthing involving jam or cheese is just wrong :o

SeymoreInOz · 27/08/2012 02:30

Lou I forgot to add, sounds like you had a lucky escape at the bbq. am dramatists scare me

moving yes they are crumpets in the UK, and in Australia too, there was just confusion at school!

Thanks bogey I will give that a go, for some reason I thought it would be much harder than that!

BabylonPI · 27/08/2012 03:09

A hot tub sounds lovely right now.

In fact any heat source would be great, I'm bloody frozen to the core in this camper van.

No cloud cover tonight and it's cccccc c c col freeeeezing Sad

TooManyDaisies · 27/08/2012 05:24

Wow. I'm glad other people hate hot tubs too. Thought I was alone. Eurgh. Just revolting.

AgathaFusty · 27/08/2012 07:15

Hate hot tubs too. You know on Come Dine With Me when they arrive somewhere and get told dessert is in the hot tub? I always think not in a million years would they get me in there, and especially not when it's going on telly Grin

LouP19 · 27/08/2012 09:56

Morning all,

For me the crumpets have to be Warburtons - they are just a cut above. Although I have to say I've never tried to make them myself.

Friend coming over this morning and we're going to look at a scarecrow trail in the next village and then do a pub lunch.

I've just sat and ate my rice krispies and seen my next door neighbour bring both my bins down the drive for me (they've been emptied). Things that like really touch me (I know that sounds daft, since Twunt left I've been amazed at how kind other people are). It has forced me out of my shell and I've immediately had to become more confident with people I didn't know so well.

Glad there is a general consensus re: the hot tubs. Not my cup of tea at all!

Hope you all have a lovely day with your crumpets/pikelets/muffins/sugar sarnies and I hope it warms up in the camper van Babylon!

Emergency counselling tomorrow morning, so trying to have one last day of 'freedom' from the chaos. I really needed this weekend.
