Morning all.

Talking of Toast Toppers, he took 2 tins of that as well. Yes, really.

My pantry is now full of Heinz cheese ravioli and Tesco sausage and beans.

why do these threads keep getting derailed with stuff about the weather and what people are eating?

Concentrateonthegood · 26/08/2012 10:33

I hate hikacking threads to discuss other matters but popped on here today to find out how Lou is doing as I do daily with "relish" and there is a weave of other stuff on here about the validity of advice etc. Just my opinion but I get the impression that the average mumsnetter is at least, at least of average intelligence and I can't imagine that many of us would be taking legal advice off a message board rather than tooling ourselves up with objective advice sought out in real life.

Is it just me or we would rather just get back to the updates and the emotional support provided on here which is the real value of Mumsnet, in my opinion. The dark humour that surfaces in these circumstances is a real testament to human spirit. To me, it also shows that Lou has been down but she is definitely not out - her spirit is high despite the best efforts of her awful husband.

longingfor

because sometime mindless chatter is a soothing break for the OP & posters & takes the mind off the awfulness of the subject. In much the same way as chatter ebbs & flows around a table over coffee. This thread goes off on tangents, some useful, some not but often amusing if it's off topic Lou can skim read as we all can to get what she wants from this thread.

longingforsomesleep · 26/08/2012 11:30

If posters needed to have their minds taken off the awfulness of the subject why would they come on here in the first place?!! I haven't noticed the op joining in some of more long-winded exchanges about food and weather but maybe she enjoys reading them. Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread myself so I'll say no more.

Morning all, hope you're all enjoying the BH weekend.

Neighbour came over this morning and said I look better now than I have done for 6 months. Confused. Obviously that's a lovely compliment, but bit surprised given the turmoil going on inside. But do feel a sense of a weight lifting off my shoulders, no doubt. Whatever happens,....

Going to bbq this afternoon. Dreading it, but there you go. I tend to stick with people and environments where I feel safe and I won't feel safe this afternoon. But need to push myself so will give it a go.

Trying to forget about HIM and what his next step may be, and divorce and all that this weekend. Want to take some time out for me, watch some crap TV and catch up with some friends.

I personally love hearing about what you're all eating too. Smile I've moved on from tinned stuff to homemade chilli con carne! Now there's progress!

Have fun at the BBQ. You can always distract people from asking difficult questions by encouraging them to talk about themselves...

sugarice · 26/08/2012 12:06

Have a nice time at the barby, I find that if there's a function that I'm not looking forward to it's actually never as bad as I imagined it would be and turns out to be fun but I find copious amounts of wine help with that Grin which I'm not sure you'd want to be doing at the moment.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 26/08/2012 12:06

Hope the weather holds good for the BBQ, it's a bit where I am. Will there be chutney with the burgers, I wonder?

Lou, seriously, you're doing so well, even your neighbours are noticing, and to be on to home cooking so soon is a marvel.

Ponders · 26/08/2012 12:09

oooh, I love chilli, Lou - in a big bowl, with baby spuds in, & parmesan on top, eaten with a spoon Grin

NotGeoffVader · 26/08/2012 12:33

Another fan of homemade chilli here - although I tend to make it very mild, and as a finishing touch, just before it's done, shove a huge dollop of crunchy peanut butter in it.

Glad you're going to the BBQ, Lou, hope you have a good time. Always good to ask people about themselves either as a distraction technique, or to allow yourself 'breathing space'. :)

olgaga · 26/08/2012 12:33

Where there are children involved the decree absolute is not issued unless joint agreement is reached, or an order is made, on the arrangements for children and finance.

It is only a simple matter if there are no children involved, or if everyone is in agreement about the terms.

Lou, stay in relationships for moral support. But if you need legal advice in relation to your divorce, post your queries in the "Legal Matters" forum - there are qualified family lawyers on there who will be happy to advise you.

Jux · 26/08/2012 12:40

Weather's great here! We're going to a little festival where dh is playing. None of us know quite what to expect as we've just had a call asking where the PA is! It's meant to be there with a mate of dh's. This mate doesn't wake until 2 usually! Dh is loading the car with his guitars and we are waiting for dd's friend to arrive and then we'll be off.

We shall be eating festival food. Hmmmmm. Hmm (probably with painted faces).

SmallWhiteWine · 26/08/2012 12:57

I have read all the threads this morning. It took three hours on and off Grin

Lou, you are fab! I hope you do enjoy your BBQ. We are going to one too Smile

Vegetarian chilli con carne

There is this stuff called Quorn Mince you know. Wink

Hope you have some fun at the BBQ Lou.

FrankWippery · 26/08/2012 13:29

Forgive me, I am being a touch pedantic as con carne means with meat. It is quite impossible to have vegetarian chilli con carne tbf.

cakeismysaviour · 26/08/2012 13:32

Fair enough, although I have tried it with Quorn Mince and it tasted just as good as with the proper meat. :)

Naice - perhaps not tipsy, she is pregnant after all...

FrankWippery · 26/08/2012 13:35

Lawks, I hope she isn't getting tipsy. She is pregnant after all.

Yes Cake, Quorn mince is indeed tasty in some things, still ain't meat though Grin

FrankWippery · 26/08/2012 13:36

Ali Grin

cakeismysaviour · 26/08/2012 13:40

I didn't say it was meat, just said it was nice and I couldn't tell the difference between the real deal and the dish made with the Quorn Mince. Confused
