The One Before

And All Others Before That

So, this is The Brave Babes Battle Bus.

All are welcome, regardless of your background, stage of sobriety, or anything else. Smile

I'm Mouse and have been here since June 2010, and in control of my drinking since August 2nd 2010.

You will find unconditional support here. Always.

Whatever you feel about drinking (or not), we've been in your shoes. Some more than once.

So, come say hi, come grab a seat. There is always an open door and a warm welcome on this Bus.

dementedma · 05/03/2011 20:53

calling JWN and other fashionistas. Ok, I'm a trainers, low heeled kind of gal.these new trousers are lovely but long - do they make them for giants? So, I want to wear them for a business event on March 18th, and they are going to need HEELS!Thing is, I have a problem with heels. I have very narrow feet and any sort of "court shoe" type thing means I just walk out of them whenever I try and take a step. I have boots that zip up and stay on but they're not very high.More practical than dressy. What can I wear which will be high enough to raise the hem off the floor, be comfortable enough to be in all day, and will stay on my bloody feet? I can't take the trousers up as they have a turn up already and I don't want to spoil them.
Come on, inside this previous weary, drunk, overweight no-hoper, there's a glamorous babe waiting to break out!!!

Evening babes

Have been lurking and reading but not posting, mostly due to being uber-busy, and trying to spend quality time with my DH in the evening. Reading what you lovely ladies are up to keeps me strong and firmly ensconced on the wagon though, so I'm very grateful for this thread Grin

It is now (drum-roll...) day 8 of complete sobriety for me, so I am officially over the 1 week mark. Hooray! Have had moments of wobble, but have overcome them quite quickly. Am sitting here now drinking an acohol free beer, while my husband gets stuck into the real thing, and allowing myself to have one little moment of feeling slightly smug Wink

Went to Old Orleans whilst out shopping today, and normally would have had two large glasses of wine and/or cocktails, impaired my judgement, and gone and bought far too much afterwards, leading to huge amounts of debt and guilt. Instead I had a lovely apple virgin mojito, and am currently admiring my sensible and lovely purchases which don't make me feel horrendously guilty. It's amazing how much of the crap in my life is caused by/made worse by my drinking...

Me and DH are getting on so much better at the moment as well. Not the slightest hint of a row since last Saturday. This is almost unheard of...

Sounds like you're all doing so well, no-one seems to be succumbing to temptation! Noteven, it's great that you're staying sober in the face of all the crap that you're having to deal with at the moment.

And welcome www. You sound a lot like me a week ago!

xx

EllieorOllie · 05/03/2011 21:26

ma describe these trousers, or link to them

I frequent Style and Beauty as well, I might be able to help Grin

dementedma · 05/03/2011 21:35

hey Ellie
Got them in a charity shopso don't know how to link to them. They are Laura Ashley, wide-legged, grey, with a turn up on the bottom.I mean the hems, not the arse Grin
it's the shoe thing I have a problem with...

EllieorOllie · 05/03/2011 21:37

Yes but I need to what the trousers are like in order to recommend shoes Grin

I'm thinking, will be back in a minute with ideas...

EllieorOllie · 05/03/2011 21:51

These are lovely in real life, and quite close fitting M&S mid-heels

Same shoes in mink, even nicer M&S again

Higher M&S wedges

these are lush IRL but a bit ££ Clarks

dementedma · 05/03/2011 22:01

ouch Ellie - all a bit too ££ for me, but I like the M&S ones with the strap. I'm pretty skint - hence the charity shop trousers - so can't spend all that on shoes.
But thanks for the ideas!

EllieorOllie · 05/03/2011 22:06

narrow feet and small budget may be an issue Smile

definitely look for something with a strap across, or t-bar, much better for holding the shoes on...

also wedges are everywhere at the moment, very on-trend, so there might be something in New Look or somewhere.

i wouldn't go for really high heels if you're used to flats and trainers.

have you thought about getting the trousers altered professionally? would be cheaper than new shoes.

jesuswhatnext · 06/03/2011 08:49

BOING!!! thats me leaping on to bus and kissing everyone! Grin

MA!! i say WEDGES to you!, you will find them SO comfy, they will look great with wide leg trousers and i think they will stay stylish for quite a few seasons to come! - my dd often finds really nice shoes in peacocks and primark! (she has trouble with shoes, she is THE most flat-footed person i have ever met!)

i had a lovley evening, i was dead right, my hostess had got me cranberry and raspberry juice with tonic and lime wedges, all in a big cristal glass that twinkled in the candle light - i didnt miss the wine AT ALL! Grin

jesuswhatnext · 06/03/2011 08:51

sorry! Blush, btw ellie - you are doing fantastically!, glad you feel so positive! Grin

notevenamousie · 06/03/2011 08:54

Morning all. DD slept in til 7!!! It is an amazing feeling to wake up having had enough sleep, I know many of you know how rare and precious that is. Since then, I have replaced the batteries in DD's electric spirograph drawing thing and I could do with going back to bed to get away from the noise!!

I'm amazed at the differences in my life now I'm not drinking - not only can I busy myself doing productive things as I have done this morning, but I can let myself have a sit down now and catch up on here, and tell DD that's what's happening, without guilt.

Life is good. We're doing church, lots of baking and a bike ride today. Hope everyone else has a nice Sunday.

venusandmars · 06/03/2011 09:45

Hello babes - I'm off to visit my elderly parents today - lots to talk to them about because my Mum's health is deteriorating yet they are so independent that they find it difficult to ask for help, or even to tell anyone what is happening.

And I'm starting off irritated because dh had said he would come with me but now he has retreated back to bed with a headache. I know it's not his fault but he's just so pathetic about it. He'd been awake since 5.30 with a headache, but when I asked what painkillers he'd taken - none! For goodness sake! What is the point in moping about with a face that is tripping him, but not actually taking doing anything to help himself. VERY low on sympathy this morning - grrr. And I'm anticipating what it'll be like when I come back too - he'll be saying 'there's something not right, I had such a bad headache', and then I'll say well go and see the doctor... Of course he won't because the headache will have disappeared (miraculously - once he'd taken some paracetamol or ibuprofen). OK, so I should stop projecting about this too. I think I'll buy my Mum some spring flowers - cheer us both up Smile

Have a good day - see you all later.

jesuswhatnext · 06/03/2011 10:47

Grin venus - the bugger just wanted to get out of seeing the old parentals didnt he?, oh, im sure he will pay for this one! Grin

seriously, hope you have a good day with them!

dementedma · 06/03/2011 16:19

noteven I'm so proud of you.Re-read that last post and see how positive it is,both for you and DD.Well done!
Here went for a walk in the woods and a picnic because DS wanted a "proper picnic" - bloody cold though. Then more spring-cleaning.
DH very snarly and cross because he isn't getting any at the moment.Too bloody bad, I am NOT a piece of meat or a fucking performing seal!!!

Tristmum · 06/03/2011 18:24

Hi folks

Bit of a Blush as haven't so much been on the bus as lurking at the stop.

Have (obviously) failed miserably in not drinking since my last appearance, but have been doing a lot of thinking. After acquiring a bottle of wine yesterday courtesy of one of those "two dine for £10" things - didn't want the food, but hey, an excuse to buy the plonk - I actually poured half a bottle of wine before going to bed and therefore will NOT be drinking tonight.

Tristmum · 06/03/2011 18:27

Poured half of it down the sink

venusandmars · 06/03/2011 18:39

tristmum - well done! Youo might have moments when you kick yourself for that tonight, but then tomorrow morning when you wake up you WILL be glad. Lurk around at the bus stop if it's what you need at the moment - and jump on anytime you like.

jesuswhatnext · 06/03/2011 22:11

well, im off to bed, i hope its quiet here because you are all tucked up in your jammies, all warm and cosy and sober!

see you all tomorrow

L XXXXXXXXX

EllieorOllie · 06/03/2011 22:18

Night all, hope you had lovely weekends. Day 9 here now Grin

(Pokes head out of bus, admiring the tumbleweed that is rolling past)

notevenamousie · 07/03/2011 06:27

Morning all,
How did it get to be Monday again already .
It's good to wake up sober, able to face the week. I really couldn't recommend it enough. I am just going to try and keep it in the day again - a busy day today but one that will end with getting to see my mum, and see DD with her, and that's got to be one worth seeing through sober. So a day of joyful sobriety here - even if bits of it don't feel very joyful, I am so much more able to handle it sober. Hope you all had good weekends and Monday is kind. x

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 07/03/2011 07:55

Hello all,

beautiful morning, the sun is out, the air crisp and cold (only saw DH off at the door, haven't been out yet!).

Mouse how are you? did you have a good weekend, I missed seeing you on the bus, although I wasn't around much either.

Indie how's it going, I missed you too.

noteven be very proud of yourself, you have dusted yourself off, and are doing so well.

Ma I was thinking of you last night. I hope you had a good Sunday evening. (I didn't escape IYKWIM!)
Primark had fab wedges with ties, last year, they might just about be bringing them out for summer, if you've got one near you.

I hope your visit went well Venus and that DP's headache got better Smile.

Welcome back Trist

To all that I haven't mentioned by name, I hope you had good weekends, and if maybe you didn't, today is a new day!
