Dh has a consultation coming up soon, at first he was really happy going throught with it but somehow I feel he is getting cold feet. I dont want him to feel bullied into having it done so that is why I'm asking you to tell us about your experience !

My husband had it done in Janaury and has still got non-motile sperm in his sample. What does this mean? Doc says we still need to take precations. Anyone else have this problem and does it mean it hasn't worked? Don;t seem to get any definitive answers?

Best thing ever invented. My husband had to endure them cutting the wrong blood vessel at which he nearly hit the roof (he reports- i wasn't going there - played in the park with the kids on the swings while I waited!). Other than that it all healed smoothly. We both agree it was the best thing ever after two children and deciding that no way was there going to be three - couldn't do pregnancy and birth again eva. Funniest bit is handing in the sample though - was I doing it (twice) - no way!

Victoriah3 - we had this with the first sample but next was clear so doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't worked. No problems since.

Tell him that the best bit is when the Nurse helps him provide a sperm sample six weeks after the OP to check whether it has worked or not.

SassySusan. You've got me completely arse about face! I was explaining to Mal our reasons for sperm storage.

No more, no less.

My bloke had chronic epididymal pain for several years after his vasectomy. he had it as his then wife had implied that her coil etc was affecting her hormones and libido and him having a vasectomy would mean more sex. It didn't and several months after the vasectomy the marriage was over.
I think blokes should only have vasectomies if they want to have it done, and should be aware that as with female sterilisation some people get chronic pain afterwards.

No sterilisation procedure should be entered into lightly, and certainly not to keep someone else happy.

Dh had it done about 8 years ago when he was 43- he actually cried afterwards as he had never had anything like it before.
No problems afterwards- and it meant I could come off the pill after 25 years.
His consultant was a Mr Dick Smile

JuicyLips · 01/10/2010 08:19

Dh's was Mr Pain!

DH had it 23 years ago after we had 3 children in 5 years. 5 years later I had hysterectomy .......He said he needn't have bothered ... I pointed out that we could have had 3 more children in that time ( No. 3 child was a complete suprise ) He is ,Bless him, the wimpiest man around over doctors but had absolutely no problems at the time or ever since < smirk>

DH should be getting his letter about his consultation any day now.

I always thought I wanted 3 but after 2 rounds of 20 week long MS, 2 lots of pre eclampsia and 2 c-sections, I've changed my mind!

DH only ever wanted a maximum of 2. He'd have stopped at just DS if I'd have been happy. So he is totally sure he doesn't want any more children either. He is 33.

I'll look after him when he gets home but 3 days in bed! I was told by the nurses in hospital to get up and have a shower less than 24 hours after each section and that's proper surgery!
