The Brave Babes Carry On The Charabanc Trip - Leaving The Booze Behind!

1000 replies

Mouseface · 14/09/2010 11:33

Hello and welcome! Smile

This is thread number eight!

The Brave Babes are all at different stages of quitting the booze. Some have stopped, some are thinking about it and some are just cutting down.

They are full of support and wisdom for those of you wishing to climb aboard the Bus or Charabanc!! Grin

The Babes aren't an exclusive club, they never judge and they don't charge for advice either!

So, come meet them. I'm Mouse, by the way, and I've been sober since August 2nd 2010, something I would never have even considered without the support of these threads.

Here are the first seven threads, if you want a bit of history.

Poor you Mouse, poor you. I'm so sorry.

Most of the above is my interview waffle. Sorry!

You must ne shattered. I am so sorry. Is there any way you could have a night nurse to give you a break? You must so need respite. I am so sorry.

Sending lots and lots of love.

Silver66 · 22/09/2010 13:28

Hi Babes

Just checking in - survived party - am at work so this is a quickie - will post later -
poor Mouse - how do you do it? Sad

Hello Hubba and High - nice to meet you - haven't had time to read todays posts but will catch up later

xxxx

lucilastic · 22/09/2010 13:48

Am so sorry Mouse. You must be shattered.

No need to apologise SAF. I needed to hear them. They struck a nerve because I know that at weekends when I've drank heavily I've been a useless, weird, inappropriate, argumentative, foul mouthed sorry excuse for a mother.
It had to stop. Now. Not in a year or 5 years later.

Thank you.

Hello all and thanks for the warm welcome.

After a couple of days off the booze, my face feels less puffy already. If I keep this up for the rest of the week, will my flabby belly and fat arse disappear???

venusandmars · 22/09/2010 15:55

Oh yes Grin

jesuswhatnext · 22/09/2010 15:56

hi high! (that sounds strange!) my wobbly bum and tummy are slowly reducing! my boobs have stayed the same though so im now a nice curvy size 12/14! Grin, (all tits and blonde hair! Grin with an unfortuante love of leopard print! Blush) the skin round my eyes looks so much better too!, tonight im going to a local health club with dd for a nice swim/sauna etc - wouldnt have done that previously in case it took up valuable drinking time! Blush

special little hugs to mouse!, you poor little love! give our little nemo a kiss from me - he has no idea his mummy is so tired!

venusandmars · 22/09/2010 15:58

Well truthfully, mine haven't yet but they sure feel a lot happier.

It's all an individual experiment though, and the only way you will know the effect on your arse will be when you have not had a drink for a whole week. Try it, and then tell us how it's going. If it has worked then keep it up, if it hasn't worked then try for another week.

Mouseface · 22/09/2010 16:26

Hello.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. xx

I am off to buy a rubber hammer, a micky finn and some knock out drops Wink

Kidding!!

Some of the benefits of NOT drinking for me are as follows -

I don't have hangovers or the shakes.

I don't feel like deep fried dog shite through being smashed.

I have more money.

I am slimmer, although not more gorgeous, there is only a certain amount of gorgeous you can be! Grin

I am healthier, as in I'm no longer pickling my internal organs.

I feel better in myself, brighter and lighter.

I have more energy (when Nemo sleeps Grin)

I want to do more now that my time is not based around drink o'clock.

I am seeing my life through sober eyes and I like it.

My skin is clear, less red and my pores reduced.

My wrinkles are less noticable and my face less puffy.

I'm ingesting less liquid calories so bound to lose even more once the sugar cravings subside, which they are.

I am alert and awake when I need to be instead of hiding in the bed at the thought of having to function!

My DD has noticed the more smiley version of me, and the recycling has gone down to less than 1 box from 3 every fortnight.

I have no guilt trips about hiding drink or my drinking.

There is no race to get that last drink in before bed.

God, why did I not stop before?

JWN - "hi high! (that sounds strange!)" Hadn't thought of that when I name changed recently (mainly to join this thread). Blush I just live high up on a hill.

Oh to be a size 12-14 (with tits).... You sound like a friend of mine who even has leopard skin wellies with kitten heels.

Great list from Mouse. V motivating.

I am what's euphemistically called a "big girl" so I'm hoping this will be a help to shifting the lard.

Just been looking at the calories:

Bottle of white wine: 555 cals
70cl bottle of gin: 1449 cals

My main tipple is white wine, but I do drink other stuff and usually shift a bottle of gin every few weeks. (And kid myself it's not too bad if I use diet tonic). I've probably been getting 3000+ cals a week from alcohol. That's like an extra day and a bit's food for a normal person.

[waking up and smelling the coffee emoticon]

ChristianaTheSeventh · 22/09/2010 19:56

hello everyone

just back from interview. Went well I think. I was extremely relaxed and myself. If they don't like me they can lump me.

How is everyone this evening? Slightly struggling with desire to drink wine.

lookingtothefuture · 22/09/2010 21:02

Christi, the feedback from your previous interviews was absolutely fantastic - they would be mad not to take you on! Sounds like today also went wellwhich is wonderful. You are probably only feeling like a drink because in the past it would have been the natural thing to do after a big day like today. Go an snuggle your kids and enjoy knowing that you did well and have ticked off another day alcohol free! Fingers crossed for you x Mouse fingers crossed for you too that Nemo decides tonights the night for a good sleep. I don't know how you do it. I think Luci mentioned respite earlier, but i was thinking too if there was any way you could get a break to catch up with some rest. Is there anyone there that could step in for a night?

Mouseface · 22/09/2010 22:17

Re respite, nope. We don't meet the criteria.

In other words, he is not 'disabled' enough.

We have worked out that we are going to do shifts. Night on, night off!!!

Thanks for all the kind words xx

Christi - good luck xxxx

I feel rubbish this morning. I slept really badly then (woke at 5am sweating and feeling sick) I dozed on and off for a bit then got up feeling not much better. I feel lethargic and a bit sick and shaky, my head hurts a bit, but not too bad. My mouth feels really rough, and it's no better now that I've had a cup of strong coffee (couldn't face anything else for breakfast). Then my computer showed a major malfuntion when I switched it on - it is OK now but it's left me worried that there is a glitch that will show up at the least convenient moment and wip everything. I should copy everything from it but I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Now before you all get worried, I am only feeling like this because I had all my injections yesterday, but it sure as hell feels like a hangover. And to think I put up with this every day, and thought I'd got off lightly.

So this morning I will wrap myself up warm and be kind to myself, and I will thank my lucky stars that because TODAY I WILL NOT BE DRINKING, I know that I no longer have to feel so crap every day Smile Smile

Mouseface · 23/09/2010 10:06

venus - here, (((((( )))))) have a Mouse hug. I feel your pain! On the jabs and the lack of sleep, yet again.

When I went to Koh Samui for my homeymoon I had jabs and felt like I had full blown flu, with a dead arm, for a fews days after. Sorry you feel rubbish. xx

Morning all

Nemo was awake 1.53am to 6.56am. I know because I looked at the clock and prayed for him to sleep for most of the night. And we both have a cold brewing.

Christ on a bike I'm glad I quit the booze!

Hydro and physio for me today. Not what I need but I must go.

TODAY I WILL NOT BE DRINKING anything but coffee and coco!

Hope you are all ok Brave Babes! Smile

OP posts:
venusandmars · 23/09/2010 10:14

Hi mouse I sent you a message - you can ignore it 'cos I was in full rant mode Grin

Does Nemo sleep during the day? i.e. has he got his day and night mixed up, or does he just not sleep for long at all?

Grit your teeth for the hydro and physio mouse, and apart from that be kind to yourself.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 23/09/2010 10:24

I don't know how the rest of you feel but I think I'd like to contribute to a nemo respite fund? We are saving money from not drinking and a lot of that is THANKS to mouse

mouse what do you think? could we do that|?

Mouseface · 23/09/2010 10:32

Christi - when will you hear re your interview?

OP posts:
Mouseface · 23/09/2010 10:38

X posted Blush

Aww, you have made me cry!! You are so very kind to think of that Christi xx

Thing is, he needs to be with someone that he knows. A person that he sees all of the time so that he settles. Our parents live 2 hours+ away and don't come that often.

It's down to me and DH really. Plus, a private nurse would cost so much! I'd feel awful using money for that.

Oh, I really am so very grateful for you suggesting that. Bless your heart.

He sleeps for an hour in the day. And sleeps just fine. He goes to bed after his last feed and sleeps ok until 1-2am and is awake/alert/restless until 6-7am.

I am going to try a night feed tonight to rule out hunger. It's easy because I can just hook him up to him pump, no need to wake him.

The room is dark, temperature is spot on, his cot is not filled with toys so he has room, he is dry and not soiled, no temp, not crying............

Just awake!

Bless you Christi. You are truly lovely for thinking of him and me. xxx

venus - I have read it, agree totally and think that I may have to sit on my hands!!!

Mouseface · 23/09/2010 11:41

Eeeek. Back later.
