Hello, welcome to thread number six!! Smile

I'm Mouse and, thanks to these threads, I quit the booze on August 2nd 2010.

This truly is a fantastic source of support for anyone who wants it! Full of real, honest, everyday people who are all at different stages of quitting the booze, cutting down or being long term sober.

There are no judgmental 'know-it-alls' here, whatever your circumstances, you will be supported all the way.

Come and meet the rest of The Brave Babes........

And, as before, here are the previous five threads for those who would like to see how this all began.

JWN's original thread (the reason we are all here)

I love it all!

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 16:45

Have a lovely evening everyone. I was going to go to a meeting but I think I am coming down with some sort of cold. Ugh. So, I think I will be reading trashy magsazines, drinking diet coke and maybe eating some chocolate! Smile

Where's MIFLAW by the way? Or have I missed him today?

Looking forward to catching up tomorrow!

venusandmars · 02/09/2010 16:58

All that talk of shoes had him scurrying away. Look after yourself Moomin.

MIFLAW · 02/09/2010 17:01

"All that talk of shoes had him scurrying away." If only ... Sadly, it was "all that talk" in the workplace of public sector finance.

Anyway, home time now, so talk shoes to your hearts' content.

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 17:04

night moomin - treat yourself gently his evening! Smile

wasindie - have a really good evening! i know that you and jab can rise to the challenge!

venusandmars · 02/09/2010 17:11

A question for you all. Do you still cook with alcohol? And I mean that most sincerely folks, as in following a recipe and putting some alcohol in things that you are cooking, not the one-for-me / one-for-the-pot approach or the big glug of liquer over some ice cream.

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 17:19

venus - that is a very good question - i always used to put wine in my gravy, i stopped doing it the same time i gave up drinking it! - i have not made coq-au-vin or beef bourgin... (dont ask me to spell it, for gods sake! Grin) since i gave up - i havent eaten any puddings with liquer in them, or chocolates etc. my dh says he thinks this is ott, but i worry it may effect me, so i steer clear.

dh reckons that cooking the alcohol will burn it off and i neednt worry about it - im a bit nervous about using it tbh!

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 17:21

what do you think about it miflaw? yea or nay?

I am just about to make fish pie and I am looking at a bottle of wine that I would normally open to make the stock. I don't feel as though I want to drink it (the others will finish the bottle with their meal) but I do feel rather odd about opening a bottle of wine while I am alone in the house. Almost as though if I open a bottle today, then I could do the same again tomorrow when there is no fish pie to be made.

Hmmmmm. I think I might wait until others are back and aks someone else to do it.

Oooh it feels so odd. I'm all of a dither. I think I will go and water my garden instead.

I had a colleague years ago who was an alcoholic. He would have beef bourgin-thingy because he could not taste alcohol in it but I remember he once pushed away christmas pudding with brandy sauce because the alcohol was not cooked out and he could taste it.

I know that I would steer away from puddings and chocolates with liquers in them (it would take a hell of a lot of chocolate liquers to get me pissed but that might not stop me trying, and then I would be about 10 stone heavier Grin)

More likely to be "thanks hen, or thanks doll" than "there's a love" [scottish emoticon]

venus, i make fish-pie with a white sauce but instead of flour i use veg stock cubes!, it is actually really tasty and compliments the fish!, no wine involved in my fis-pie at all!

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 17:38

fish-pi even! Grin

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 17:39

And I was wondering why the recipe for fish-pi included 3.14159265 tigers Grin.

Anyway PILs are back so crisis averted. Thanks for being here, it was good to have friends to talk it over with.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 02/09/2010 18:25

Hello, interview went really really well, was asked back in on the spot to do a presentation and further interview. With really really prestigious top firm so very very pleased Grin

Will read other posts just wanted to let you know before bathtime (kids not me!)

MsGee · 02/09/2010 20:32

Yay Christi! Really good news, sounds like you were brilliant!!

Loving the pi-posts.

Venus, glad you got through the wine cooking crisis. I am avoiding the issue by not cooking for DH. Bless him, he thinks I did a lovely tea tonight because he had a spud and beans.

You ladies are too lovely to your DPs with your high heels and gourmet cooking Wink
