Hello, welcome to thread number six!! Smile

I'm Mouse and, thanks to these threads, I quit the booze on August 2nd 2010.

This truly is a fantastic source of support for anyone who wants it! Full of real, honest, everyday people who are all at different stages of quitting the booze, cutting down or being long term sober.

There are no judgmental 'know-it-alls' here, whatever your circumstances, you will be supported all the way.

Come and meet the rest of The Brave Babes........

And, as before, here are the previous five threads for those who would like to see how this all began.

JWN's original thread (the reason we are all here)

Thread two

Thread three

Thread four

Thread five

I am definitely struggling at the moment JAB so I am just going back to basics - I MUST NOT PICK UP THE FIRST DRINK. I am not focusing on anything further than not drinking. Just for today.

JABnowJAR · 02/09/2010 13:07

You're on Wasindie - I can definitely do that!

Hi Moomin please don't apologise for the long intro - it's really interesting to hear everybody's stories. I hope that you're starting to feel better too?

JABnowJAR · 02/09/2010 13:11

Hi venus, I'm looking forward to getting lots of support/tough love on this thread. Hopefully I'll be able to help others too. I've really loved reading your posts over the last few months! :)

Moomin, basics is good for me too. Today, I will NOT be drinking! I'm trying to adopt the idea of not projecting too e.g. not thinking about the wedding that me and DH are going to in October. This will be the first time that DD will be staying overnight with my parents and therefore I would technically have licence to completely let my hair down or in other words drink an excessive amount of alcohol!

But I am not projecting!!

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 13:17

That's a great start - and one of the key pieces of advice from AA. (You will probably have seen that some of attend AA some of us don't but it does not matter - this is not an AA thread. Speaking of AA.... I am going to a meeting tonight so will see some of the people that I embarrassed myself in front of on Monday Blush Blush Blush!)

MsGee · 02/09/2010 13:20

I reccomend the pukka pad things to do today one with 115 pages!! you can even write 'not drink' at the top of each page Grin I do like finding fellow stationery addicts. When I move house we can have a thread re filing systems... (partially joking!)

Moomin hope you feel better after lunch. Can you treat yourself to something at the end of the day. I just bought some new shampoo and its made my day. I worked out that I can afford to treat myself with all the money saved on wine!

Christi - good luck for the interview, fingers and toes crossed for you

Mouse - hope the hydrotherapy is ok today. I am so impressed by your evening's activities. Hope the meal goes well!

Venus - sympathies on dealing with in laws and parents. Although I find that being sober does help you to stay on top of things with them. My plan is to tell people that I am having a bet with DH as they know that I'm too stubborn to give in!

JAB - hope you are settling in well here. Congrats on the DD, I have a two year old who is currently running rings round me.

not sure if forthe is around but I showed DD the reward chart last night and she was very impressed. She got two stars for her poos at nursery (she seems to go like a trooper thre, it must be a control thing with me) and was so chuffed she ran to show DH as soon as he got home. Sadly, within half an hour of that she had lobbed the thing across the room and we arrived at Strop Central. Must consult Toddler Taming today. And make myself a reward chart. Wink

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 13:25

Feeling a bit better since lunch. Ate possibly the biggest sandwich I have ever seen and a packet of crisps. It was not posh. It was not flash. But it was what I needed. (I also watched Jeremy Kyle that I had Sky plus-sed this morning Blush Not sure what it says about me but I love that programme... I doubt it says anything very good to be honest!)

MsGee - thank you for the poo update!! At least she's 'going' at nursery. And can I have the catalogue after wasindie?

venusandmars · 02/09/2010 13:28

Christi you have probably gone out now (let us know how it went), but if you like the approach that your therapist suggested then you would probably enjoy mindfulness meditation. There is a group in Edinburgh who practice 'Mindfulness based stress reduction' there is a link to them here

Or there are classes at The Edinburgh Buddhist Centre

Or listen to the soothing voice of Alistair Appleton (from TV's escape to the country)in this guided meditation

Hi prime - glad to hear it's going well.

I love Staples! Id normally be going 'back to school' at this time of year but am not due to mat leave! Im missing having a new pencil case and diary! May have to treat myself anyway Grin

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 13:49

Do you know what I so love about this thread? It's not 'just' all the support re alcohol and the trading of 'war stories'... I love the way we get hold of something random and we're off! The obvious example at the moment is stationery of course. But also things like LittleMsGee's toilet habits, the little wasindies, JWN's DD's new fella and so on! (God, I must be feeling a lot better since lunch for this level of enthusiasm!)

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 13:50

Hello prime by the way! Glad you're doing well.

JABnowJAR · 02/09/2010 13:54

Glad to hear you're feeling better Moomin - I agree, this is one of the reasons why I've enjoyed the threads so much.

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 13:59

hi all!!, just a quickie, am at work and really need to do some! Wink

hi jab!!, nice to know ya!! Grin, day at a time and all that!!, chat more later i hope!

dd just called, is staying an extra night at centr-parcs, so must be having a good time - i think new fella has found out that she is no 'outdoor' type though Grin

sationary!!, as a prefered purchase!! Shock, confirmation that you lot are totally barmy!! Grin

MsGee · 02/09/2010 14:09

wasindie - siren??? are you laughing at my geekiness? or am i missing something!

JAB - I can reccomend moleskine diaries, they are lovely. I used to buy the notebooks but too expensive!

Red - glad you are feeling better. LittleMs has a lot to answer for Smile

Jesus - I am in awe of your shopping, your shoes sounded both amazing and terrifying to me. I wear flat boring shoes (DH says that they look like old lady range from Clarks and I haven't the heart to tell him that they are). However, I could do sparkly stationery... Grin.

Everyone else - sorry for missing you off, must work. Still got 6 hours of work to do and a bathroom to clean by 4.30. Shock

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 14:17

MsGee - I wear flats all the time these days. DH is the same height as me (quite short for a bloke!) and very slim-built so if I am taller than him due to heels I feel like a huge giant lumbering next to him! I imagine that people would think, 'Dear God, she'll smother him!' So flats all the way!

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 14:18

I think that wasindie was calling you a siren re your threat promise of a thread about filing systems!

MsGee · 02/09/2010 14:32

I thought that might be it. After I shared my staples catalogue too!!!

Red, I know think of you as Nicole Kidman.

My Internet on computer is down (now on phone) a d it's drivng me insane. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 14:40

today i am mostly wearing 4in cork wedges!, very comfy and almost 'slobby' for me! Blush (even my slippers have heels! Blush)

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 14:52

Thanks MsGee for thinking of me like Nicole Kidman. Definitely a lot taller and thinner than me! (But carry on, ha ha!)

I used to like wearing heeled boots and wedges JWN. But 4in being almost slobby for you!!! What height do you usually endure wear?!

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 15:02

well nicole, sorry, i mean moomin, i mostly wear between 4 and 5in heels, its the wedges i find most comfy which kind of equals 'slobby' in my warped and twisted mind! Grin

i have prefered designers for 'best' shoes, and prefered shops for 'everyday' iyswim?, i do though have some fantastic snakeskin cowboy-boots for this winter, will look totally fab with long black jersey dresses!, here endtith the lesson! Grin

venusandmars · 02/09/2010 15:02

JWN is that slippers like these Grin

RedMoomin · 02/09/2010 15:12
Grin
jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 15:15

jesuswhatnext · 02/09/2010 15:16
