Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

I thought it was Josh buying the boiler suits.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/02/2026 14:53

I'm sure it was Josh buying the boiler suits. He used Amber's name. Did he get that from her name badge or does he know her from Ambridge? He sounded well disposed to her and quite the reverse with George.

Re the Gordon family - the SWs have obviously decided to go down one of the classic family drama storylines and make one of Amber's parents a lot posher than the other one. Her Dad is a working class south Londoner, judging by the accent, runs his own business and is now quite affluent. Her Mum is either a Hyacinth Bouquet type or genuinely from a more middle class background, again going purely on accent. We know nothing about her life as far as I can recall. Maybe she also has a demanding job and Amber has always been an afterthought.

If they are well off, I find it slightly surprising that Amber was sent to Borchester Green and not to a private school, but perhaps they were less well off a few years back, or have ideological objections. Mr Gordon could be the kind of parent who favours the school of hard knocks followed by the university of life.

I said the other day that I was surprised that Amber dropped out of education so early. I'm still surprised. She doesn't seem noticeably academic in her interests but that's no barrier to getting A levels and going to university or some other form of HE or professional training. We've had strong hints that all was not well at home, haven't we? Maybe dropping out of school, getting a job at the farm supplies shop and using the rest of her time trying to be an influencer was her act of rebellion against what her parents wanted. She then carried it on to the next level by taking up with a jailbird.

and now dialled up to 11 by getting pregnant

Abra1t · 03/02/2026 19:14

Stella, no, step back right now…

Brefugee · 03/02/2026 19:15

I had a thought - maybe Stella is going to run off with Esme...

TeenToTwenties · 03/02/2026 19:16

I don't 'feel' Pip being gay whatsoever.
It just doesn't seem real in the slightest.

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 03/02/2026 19:17

Well, that was not the object I was envisioning…..who has an engagement ring with no sharp edges??😳🤣

Abra1t · 03/02/2026 19:18

I wonder who in the village might have extensive dairy experience and might prefer the work to being a school dinner lady? 🤔

muddyford · 03/02/2026 19:19

Was I alone in thinking Cleo had swallowed a vibrator, or have I been on MN too long?

DH proposed, one workday morning, halfway through shaving - he came in with foam everywhere.

I did: opals and no faceted stones, in a smooth setting. But of course it would probably have been destroyed if a dog had eaten it: opals very often break when they get wet. I think that may be why they have a reputation as being an unlucky stone.

OrphanBlankly · 03/02/2026 20:08

Well. This is not good news.

🙄

Gonners · 03/02/2026 20:11

@muddyford You were not alone.

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime I have never worn a ring - they just feel really odd - but I do have the most beautiful pair of opal earrings - tiny opals in a square gold setting. I've just had a look at the earring box and I really (too many reallys alert) ought to get my ears re-pierced. I haven't worn any of them since about 1997!

I got my ears re-pierced this summer (had ignored them for about a year, and then couldn't get studs in...), specifically so I could buy a pair of opal studs. Such a pretty stone!

DeanElderberry · 03/02/2026 20:19

For a brief joyful moment I though Stella had prepared a poisoned cake for Pip, hence the concern about poor Cleo.

Or a lifetime's supply of STFU pills, also for Pip.

RegimentalSturgeon · 03/02/2026 20:31

The best STFU pills are effective after a single dose.
‘With this dog’s anus I thee wed’ has a certain -sorry - ring to it, I suppose.

BeatriceBatchelor · 03/02/2026 21:15

Well so much for me thinking Stella wasn't that into Pip!

Isn't there quite a difference between the two? Does Stella really want to be Fat Rosie's stepmum?

MorningCoffeePlease · 03/02/2026 22:32

I wasn't expecting that. Stella must have the patience of a saint to contemplate a future with Pip and Rosie - not exactly the most auspicious beginning either, waiting for the ring to be excreted by a dog.

TheUsualChaos · 03/02/2026 22:45

Was I alone in thinking Cleo had swallowed a vibrator, or have I been on MN too long?

@muddyford nope! 😂 Was thinking surely not on TA!
Stella must be mad. I thought she was going to break up with Pip soon. I still can't get past that Stella was actually best friends with Ruth before they got together, it's just all a bit weird.

Josh was awful to George. And he certainly seems to have too much time on his hands to be freed up to go round to Meadow Farm all the time, why isn't he busy working?

BeatriceBatchelor · 03/02/2026 22:48

Meant to say isn't there quite an age difference between Stella and Pip?

Is Susan going to bring Clarrie back to Bridge Farm?

Pip and Stella have zero chemistry. I thought it was Stella’s last ditch attempt to spice things up.

SlenderRations · 03/02/2026 22:55

also, surely, an implausible age difference between Josh and Esme

TheUsualChaos · 04/02/2026 00:04

Yes Pip and Stella have a fairly big age gap. Pip is 32 and I feel like Stella is at least 45?

I can't figure out how old Esme is meant to be.

EBearhug · 04/02/2026 00:31

I too thought it was a vibrator, and NO, STELLA! Don't do it!

MorningCoffeePlease · 04/02/2026 00:46

I thought it was a ring (unfortunately) from the get-go. Bag it and bin it, Stella!
