Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

Who mentioned that Pip hadn’t been heard for a while?! 😩

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/02/2026 19:37

Whoever it was, hang your head in shame: you summoned her.

OrphanBlankly · 01/02/2026 19:47

Poor, poor Hannah …

muddyford · 01/02/2026 21:05

Poor Stella, I thought. Late back from work but self-centred Pip couldn't be arsed to get supper underway and could only drone on about sodding cruises. Perhaps the ship will hit an iceberg and Pip will be trapped below decks...

Forgetting that Nasher is a bit spendy
Forgetting that Stella was getting cold feet about becoming another mum to Fat Rosie
Forgetting that Fat Rosie is fat

I doubt that they have forgotten at least the first two, and I assume that the third has been reversed as Pip was so mortified about it. In fact I'm hoping that whatever the current issue is with Stella is to do with her deciding to ditch Pip, she deserves much better.

When they put their mind to it, the SWs are very good at the slow burn story. Remember how long it took to establish Rob's nastiness, and there were signs of Alice's alcoholism several years before it became a storyline.

Anyone else wandering why Rosie had to be farmed out to the grandparents when Pip was at home? Seemed quite odd given that she has school tomorrow.

I wonder how much that "installation" cost Justin. Because if Peggoi's money only covered the Spinal Tap Stonehenge-sized artefact, he must be considerably out of pocket.

According to the podcast, around £20K. That was on the basis that the original piece apparently would have cost around £5K.

I was really surprised when it turned out that this supposedly tiny piece of work was 5' - I'd have though that that was quite big enough for the Piggoi memorial, and if she wanted something bigger she should have assigned more money for it. A relative of mine was very much the moving spirit around some quite well-known gardens, but the only memorial to him there is a blink-and-you'd-miss-it small portrait painted by a relative - but then, he was careless enough not to leave money for a vanity artwork.

The Kelpies cost £5million. Just sayin'. Would have thought a 5' artwork is a pretty decent size for £5k!

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/02/2026 07:37

5 foot seems big enough to me. What did they want - the Angel of the North?

TeenToTwenties · 02/02/2026 08:17

5ft is lovely but probably not as a 'statement piece' at the entrance of somewhere, as it will be smaller than most of the adults attending (except my DD).
I think you'd be looking at 10ft for a statement.

Gonners · 02/02/2026 08:32

Does anyone else have a total inability to imagine what this monstrosity might look like ... other than, obviously, monstrous? I know they say the pictures are better on radio, but that is not the case for me here.

JoelenesParrot · 02/02/2026 09:14

I expected the thread to be knee-deep in the scone/scon debate after Pip turning down Leonard’s baking last night!

Stella was at work all day and Pip was clearly at leisure and child-free, so why on earth didn’t she rally round and get dinner on. She really is the limit. Stella would be better off with Hannah who clearly had volunteered to look after Cleo in her absence. Pip is so tone-deaf, going on about the cruise when Hannah clearly has very real problems and could actually do with some genuine support.

Brefugee · 02/02/2026 09:44

OK i have missed something. Why was Hannah at Pip and Stella's? does she live there now?

ETA. Ah i forgot Pip & Stella don't live together.

Am totes confused.

OrphanBlankly · 02/02/2026 09:44

Yes, the exchanges between Hannah and Pip were well done.

I guess Pip wouldn’t have offered to cook for Stella at the bungalow while Stella wasn’t there? That would have been quite an imposition on Hannah. And Stella probably hadn’t wanted to go to Pip’s house to eat after a long day.

Kirsty mentioned living with Kate yesterday. But we never hear what’s happening with her other lodger - Denise. Or has she moved on without my noticing?

Gonners · 02/02/2026 09:46

Reading that reminded me that I didn't actually listen last night - unlike Pip, I was preparing, cooking and eating dinner, then forgot. So I've just caught up. Good grief, STFU Pip! And Ruth, and David, and Kenton!

I reckon Stella was so quiet because she was wondering if she could afford to hire a hit-man.

How much did Peggy leave?

Everybody was expecting a substantial inheritance and was surprised at how little she left to her family, but it was explained that she'd decided to leave a big chunk of money for the family holiday and the memorial. But the "lavish" holiday turned into half the family going for a November holiday, sleeping in bunk beds, and the memorial was small and Justin had to spend money to supplement it.

So where has the money gone?

OrphanBlankly · 02/02/2026 10:29

No one knows …

The SWs chickened out of giving us the inheritance story we deserved, and invented a last minute story of a donation to a dementia charity. It was staggeringly poor storytelling - particularly given the immense promise of the fondant fancy era and its fallout.

Sinittaadancers · 02/02/2026 13:43

Did anyone notice that Pip’s superfluous random extra vocal noises at the beginning and end of sentences had returned last night? I thought those had stopped but no! Like nails down a blackboard!

ExitPursuedByABare · 02/02/2026 14:05

I too had forgotten that Stella and Hannah were housemates.

Pip is such a whiny mare.

BeatriceBatchelor · 02/02/2026 14:37

D'you get the feeling that Stella's not that into Pip?

Madcats · 02/02/2026 15:41

Has Pip ventured beyond the bypass since lockdown? She never seems to go anywhere, let-alone abroad.

FWIW I seem to have seen lots of Northern Lights photos in my social feeds in the past month; who needs a cruise when Stella could just get an Aurora app and escort her up Lakey Hill on an appropriate night.

I also hope Stella isn't on her way out; unlike the Maliks and Mick she doesn't feature on the BBC webpage list of characters.

Could not agree more. Terribly disappointing.
