Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

'Starter marriage', so it was 😂. My most favourite episode of TA of all time.
perhaps that what Susan wants for George and Amber.

Godesstobe · 03/08/2025 11:09

It's just occurred to me that Peggy may have left money in her will to buy Home Farm back from the Gills.

(Peggy's will is a bit like Mary Poppins' carpet bag I think.)

Gonners · 03/08/2025 11:23

Why would she, though? And who would she buy it for? Brian bought it about 50 years ago and I don't think it was Archer property before that.

It had been turned into flats by Ralph Bellamy for use by the workers on the Bellamy Estate, and Brian converted it back into a single dwelling after he bought it in 1975. It never had anything to do with The Archers that I know of.

I suspect that Amber went looking for a bloke with a social media 'hook' - prisoner reformed by the love of a good woman would sound good on tik tok & insta. Has she been posting about the love affair of the century on the socials do we know?

I just looked on Instagram and there is an Amber Gordon “Luxury Shopper”. I can’t believe I did that!

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 03/08/2025 19:18

Oh dear. That’s a bit more excitement than we usually get on a Sunday evening.

Bit worried now …

muddyford · 03/08/2025 19:47

I loved Brian telling slimeball Justin to leave JennieDarling out of it. But ridiculous bit of willy waving from two blokes old enough to know better. I wonder if a male referee might have been better.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/08/2025 20:02

Justin was (and is) completely out of order. It's a pity that Brian has done something stupid and counterproductive, but given the provocation I don't entirely blame him.

Gonners · 03/08/2025 20:20

I thought Stella did well not to throttle the pair of them, though obviously I am firmly on Team Brian because Justin is a complete arse (as we posh folk say, claiming that's how we pronounce ass).

I am hoping that Stella leaves Ambridge (and Pip) behind her and marries a splendid Canadian woman farmer with a million acres. Perhaps we could have a spin-off?

NebulousSadTimes · 03/08/2025 20:47

It may well have been mentioned in one of the previous 187 Shock threads and I'm getting on a bit so to save me some precious time can anyone tell me why the omnibus edition on a Sunday has the theme tune played in a different style?

CrashThere · 03/08/2025 21:04

No idea but it is ghastly.

Gonners · 03/08/2025 21:18

It's to remind you that it's Sunday and you should be at St Stephen's, listening to Alan's words of wisdom and praying/preying on your knees/neighbours, rather than frivolously partaking of entertainment on the wireless.

Buxusmortus · 03/08/2025 23:21

Didn't Kirsty have a thing with Jakob's brother? When did that finish? Won't it be a bit awkward if Jakob moves in as her lodger and his brother visits?

I don't understand why Jakob, who is a vet in his 40s( I'm guessing), would want to rent a room in someone's house, when he surely must earn enough to buy his own place or at least rent his own place, he's far too old for house-sharing.

Has Kate even talked to Jakob or is this just another of her stupid ideas she is trying to force upon him?

Can Chris just kick Jakob out straight away, wouldn't there be some kind of tenancy agreement notice period? In that case the dry rot work would probably be completed before the notice period expired.

echt · 03/08/2025 23:42

What an exciting episode. And about farming, forsooth.

JanFebAndOnwards · 04/08/2025 01:01

Can someone please answer my question of a few days ago when I asked which episode the rewilding morphed into warehousing? Thanks

EBearhug · 04/08/2025 01:03

Jacob, if he has any sense, which he does, will have a proper tenancy, probably an assured shorthold tenancy. He's been there a while, so it's probably rolling on and there has to be usually 2 months notice either way. It would make more sense for Chris to move in with Kirsty. Rural tenancies aren't always as formal as they shoukd be, though, plus this is Ambridge, so anything might happen.

I with Stella. Many a workplace would be improved by the absence of bickering men. (I may be projecting here...)

EBearhug · 04/08/2025 01:05

And Kirsty and Erik were never committed, just occasional fun as circumstances permitted.

Justin and Martyn-with-a-y discussed it on 13th July. I can't remember the details, apart from something about "vertical farming" (which I may have imagined).

Lost in the mists of time. It's been that way for decades now. We used to have one of the original characters, Tom Forrest, introducing the omnibus with a few remarks about the countryside and the seasons, leading into a 'And that reminds me, earlier this week Martha was out gathering sloes for her famous gin with the help of young Neil Carter ...' and then we'd go into the omnibus, which would be very slightly edited from the episodes put out during the week. It was good nerdy fun to spot the dialogue that would probably be pruned (we knew how to live back then Hmm).

I was a bit worried about Brian last night. Yelling away like that is not good for a man with a heart condition.

Yes I thought calm down Brian remember your dodgy ticker.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 04/08/2025 10:14

Must be fun for Charles Collingwood to have a change from the supercilious drawl and give it a bit of welly once in a while!

Hercisback1 · 29/07/2025 19:55

Yet another stupid storyline on the "spin the wheel" approach to script writing.

Can we please go back simpler times when TA was the every day life of country folk? Now it's the once in a lifetime disasters which happen every day in Ambridge.

Has anyone written to BBC feedback about the storylines? I'm tempted.

Lots of us have! They are clearly ignoring us.

In other news, I went to visit a relative this weekend and passed a funeral directors. In the window it had a headstone engraved with “Tom Archer” . There’s a thought…!

NebulousSadTimes · 04/08/2025 11:07

Your post made me smile @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g Smile

I didn't hear last night's episode, I must try and remember to tune in at lunchtime.

I think a big part of my problem with TA is remember who's who. I've got quite a few of the characters with more distinctive voices but Tom <shrugs>. Is he the one with the sausages?

Oh! I've just googled, he's a Troughton! One of my mum's many sayings whilst watching telly was "That's a Troughton boy" when one of Patrick's sons appeared 🤗

I still do that Blush

ExitPursuedByABare · 04/08/2025 11:37

How many sons does he have?

(Yes I know I could Google.)
