The Amber storyline is just stupid.

Among other things, the Amber actress is only 8 years younger than the Emma actress. They sound a very similar age. This makes the “rude youngster” storyline even sillier. Ugh!

wrong thread, apologies

FondantFancyAnyone · 27/06/2025 20:30

No worries @Texelspreadsheet . I'm wondering if I should listen on Sunday. I'm enjoying the intrigue probably more than I would the episodes.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/06/2025 22:19

Right, combined spoilers for the next three weeks. There's a chaplain in the cast. Surely George and Amber can't tie the knot while he's in prison? Or is Neil going to need last rites?

Radio Times 28th June to 4th July
A new face makes her mark and becomes embroiled in all-out war with one resident. Around the BL boardroom, Justin’s suspicions grow and Martyn is the subject of unexpected gossip. Clarrie struggles with her new role. She fears it may be too much for her until Henry offers a helping hand. Kenton’s low mood starts to affect those around him and Neil is attacked by an unlikely source.

Total TV Guide 28th June to 4th July
With his abrasive manner and gimlet-eyed appreciation of a spreadsheet, Martyn Gibson normally gives absolutely no impression of caring what others think of him. But even he is taken aback to find himself the subject of some unexpected gossip this week. Meanwhile, the arrival of a new resident causes ripples and ructions among the villagers, and a similar upset with the BL board causes Justin’s suspicions to deepen. And, if you could personify the milk of human kindness, Clarrie would be your woman. But the ex-dairymaid’s gentle nature sees her struggling with her new job when she realises her vision of dishing up crumble to apple-cheeked youngsters is far from reality. Luckily, Henry is on hand to offer advice.

So George is having a prison wedding, clarrie gets bullied by the Year 8’s and Neil gets a terminal diagnosis

FondantFancyAnyone · 27/06/2025 23:01

Bloomin 'eck!
Shock

TottersBlankly · 28/06/2025 08:32

Yes to George and Clarrie - but I’m thinking Neil is either sacked or resigns or retires? All brought about by something Martyn Gibson does or says?

If that’s the way George is going - I don’t actually mind. Obviously new characters can be tedious, but he really needs a new story, and Amber so far seems merely silly, which is preferable to being Joy.

Thank you very much, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g!

TottersBlankly · 28/06/2025 10:45

So I’m guessing Eddie’s unexpected new bond will be with his new granddaughter in law?! Grin Wonder what they’ll discover they have in common?

Madcats · 28/06/2025 11:44

I do wish that the person responsible to casting would properly LISTEN to audio before hiring cast. Amber sounds too similar in age to Emma for my ears.

I guess the only plus is that the actor playing George is a good radio actor. The more we have to listen to George, the less time there will be for Joy and Rochelle.

I hope we get a scene with Alice,George and Amber in due course.

FondantFancyAnyone · 29/06/2025 12:48

I'm in the process of catching up. i liked the line 'even thicker than her make-up'.
What's happened to The Archers? If it wasn't for Brian, I'd switch off for good.

TottersBlankly · 04/07/2025 12:29

Proposal tonight? 💍

And now it seems obvious that Amber and Eddie will bond over their opposition to Neil and Susan’s part in George’s downfall.

FondantFancyAnyone · 04/07/2025 15:16

Is it any better this week?

Is Amber going to be Mrs Geowurge Grundy by a quick prison wedding only for Geowurge to find out later that she still hasn't had her orchidectomy yet?

Gonners · 04/07/2025 21:01

@TottersBlankly ... hats off to you!

@FondantFancyAnyone ... I applaud your optimism.

FondantFancyAnyone · 04/07/2025 21:05

Presumably it was worse and I'm right that there will be a Mrs Amber Grundy with bollocks.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 04/07/2025 21:15

FondantFancyAnyone · 04/07/2025 21:05

That hasn't been mooted but it would explain a lot.

Gonners · 04/07/2025 21:26

Ha! They wouldn't do that, surely? Just imagine The Outrage! Not from the regular listeners, who would just roll their (our) eyes and speculate about what next week's isshoo would be, but from those of a the non-terf persuasion who would object to Amber (formerly Ambrose) being portrayed as such a ghastly character.

FondantFancyAnyone · 04/07/2025 22:20

They killed Nigel. They don't care about outrage.

Unless it's to do with race or sexuality.

They killed Nigel. The bastards.
(Got that word from a Black Sabbath song, not sure it means, but it sounds menacing).

BrightYellowDaffodil · 04/07/2025 22:21

Oh dear god no, please not a trans story line. I can't cope with The Archers being "queered" along with everything else. I was assuming that Amber's Queen Influencer Bee status was just going to be massively undermined by her previously being a be-spectacled geek.

FondantFancyAnyone · 04/07/2025 22:28

I've not listened. I don't even want to any more.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 04/07/2025 23:14

Because George bullied Ambrose at school and this is a massive payback? So Amber isn't really horrible- it's just what George deserves?

Edited

The word bastards?

amber still sounds middle aged so maybe it is more lying about her age than her gender

Of all the SL they could have gone with around a jail sentence I have to say this wasn’t on my bingo card

If she had been a boy at school either George or Brad would surely have mentioned it. My money is on 'bespectacled geek'.

Bruisername · 05/07/2025 08:46

agree - she was unpopular etc etc

if George bullied her you think he would remember? Or Brad would

the SL is so stupid I’m not sure I can be bothered

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 05/07/2025 08:55

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/07/2025 08:44

If she had been a boy at school either George or Brad would surely have mentioned it. My money is on 'bespectacled geek'.

But I don't think either of them do remember her. George doesn't at all and Brad sounded as if he were just tentatively throwing out generic comments out of politeness, rather than showing she was so unremarkable he never noticed her existence and she was very quick to move that conversation on.

Bruisername · 05/07/2025 08:57

I’m not sure thick glasses and the fact her eye colour has changed is generic. I thought he was clearly saying he knows who she is and he turned slightly kinder (saying green eyes suited her)

Gonners · 05/07/2025 09:45

I don't think I'd remember someone's eye colour unless (a) it was remarkable in some way or (b) if I knew them pretty well. I especially wouldn't remember it if they had worn glasses. So I assume that those coloured contact lenses are quite - er - bright!
