Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like The Archers to be wall to wall election conversations for the next month, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

It does sound marvellous. I've never had the patience for marmalade making, nor the household marmalade consumption to justify it. I imagine there's a lot of marmalade making in Ambridge, or perhaps those days are gone now. Jill, Jenny, possibly Peggy and/or Christine - all comparing notes in January on when the first Seville oranges arrived at Underwood's Food Hall or the market stalls or greengrocer's in Borchester. There must have been a marmalade category in the Flower and Produce show.

There were marmalade wars many years back with Phil competing against Jill, obviously not something that was going to end well. It might have been at the time that he was getting his head turned by Another Woman (was she called Myra? Moira?) so there was jealousy and unresolved sexual tension to the backdrop of boiling preserves. Or perhaps I'm confabulating.

It was long ago, when the concept of onion marmalade was new and exciting as opposed to retro and jaded.

edited to polish my prose

I have the vaguest recollection of kitchen tension when Ruth’s mother came to stay a very long time ago. But I may be mixing people up.

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 07:53

There certainly was kitchen tension around Ruth's mother, but I think there was also another woman, maybe someone he met through music? He'd turned over some of the farming and the increased leisure time left him distractable.

A bit like my dear dog Hector who discovered sex at the age of 10 - not in any hands-on way, but enough to hear the seasonal call of the wild. Fortunately he had slowed down enough mentally and physically that if he decided to follow his dream he has easy to overtake, round up, and distract with food and the comforts of home.

A technique Jill eventually applied to Phil, possibly after the usual griping about dead Grace.

Gonners · 07/06/2024 08:02

@DeanElderberry ... he was getting his head turned by Another Woman (was she called Myra? Moira?)

Myra the Magistrate, I think.

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 08:03

YES!

thank you

Did we ever hear the whole of Constance’s letter? I may have dozed off in that episode and would like to hear it if it was aired.

I too think Fallon may still be pregnant. And Harrison will shortly meet his demise at the hands of MeatballMarkie or one of his hounds, without knowing.

Fallon will not still be pregnant. FFS, the foetus was dead, the coil was yanked out and there was a second scan a week later. I’m definitely up for a deading of Harrison, though. Make t’world a better place, like. Cocker.

Yes please. Dreary little man. If we want to be bored to death, we can always listen to Tom, or Will, or Ben ... so much choice.

If Fallon is still pregnant I will finally have to stop listening to TA. Even the dreadful doctor at the hospital cannot possibly have got this wrong.

TottersDeterminedlyTowardsThePollingStation · 07/06/2024 09:13

I want to hear that it’s Tom buying stolen meatballs behind a pub …

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 09:16

Harrison dead, Fallon to be delivered of twins who she will name George and Alice, probably not in time to be the Best Christmas Ever, but with luck it can be latched onto some other significant date (St Valentine's Day?) much rejoicing from everyone except George.

oh joy

No, not Joy, joy.

Gonners · 07/06/2024 09:21

With a side order of them being George's twins, because Fallon showed her gratitude for the rescue in the only possible way.

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 09:23

No No, they have to be Harrison's so as to rub George's nose in the whole mess.

also, ick!

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 09:24

and ew!

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 09:25

anyhow, EU election day, 17 votes to be placed in order of my choice. I'm going out now, I may be some time.

TottersDeterminedlyTowardsThePollingStation · 07/06/2024 09:30

Actually - George would be the ideal person for whom to write a Young Father storyline …

(Not with Fallon, obvs.)

It would so effectively perpetuate the Grundy inability to take flight, tying him to dead end jobs and get rich quick schemes in the village for the next decade and a half. By which time it might be too late for him to turn any of his dreams into reality.

Not sure if I’d prefer that to billionaire influencer, though.

Gonners · 07/06/2024 12:37

Assuming that they Grundys will at some point be re-evicted from Grange Farm (when Oliver is scammed into throwing yet more good money after bad at Grey Gorbles, for example), then they can all join forces with George and move into Fallon's house.

BeatriceBatchelor · 07/06/2024 14:33

Oh the playlet was "cringe."

Fallon is going to want a baby now.

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 14:57

Oh dear, I just listened (minus the playlet, forwarded through that) but is Fallon's overemotional weepiness a signal that she's already upduffed?

Or she now wants to be.

iratepirate · 07/06/2024 17:07

It’s so rare to have a character portrayed as not wanting to have children. I’d be really sad if fallon changed her mind.

Bruisername · 07/06/2024 17:31

Me too

Bruisername · 07/06/2024 19:15

Didn’t need the Fallon/harrison scene. Feels like they’re dripping a SL and I’m not really interested. And his scene with Kenton was weird. The whole son/daughter thing. And then Fallon saying things are on the up. Hopefully Harrison is going to be killed off soon. But it’s all quite a lot of drama atm

alice is the whipping boy so no doubt it will be proved it wasn’t her. Although I do think she needs a comeuppance of sorts or she will never learn

Lillian weird as well. And what was she expecting Oliver to say when his horse is about to die

markie sl can’t be wrapped up that quick? I was thinking maybe Jolene would be kidnapped while out or something
