Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like The Archers to be wall to wall election conversations for the next month, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Obvs Lilian's going to regret what she told Oliver. Completely weird when Kenton said Harrison was like a son. In my head they're within ten years age of each other (ok I know that's wrong)...

But that episode was not worth sitting in my car outside Tesco for 15 minutes for!

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 19:32

Should Harrison be running around telling all and sundry about an investigation that has not yet come to court? Has Markie even been charged?

Not only that, but Fallon was already an adult by the time he got together with Jolene, so even the idea that he sees her as a daughter is a bit of a stretch. Except that his own actual daughter lives as far away from him as it is possible to get without coming back the other way, so maybe he just doesn't know what it means to consider someone your child!

I thought that. Surely the recent fiasco with nearly losing his job should have made him more cautious about shooting his mouth off to family and friends about any police matters. They should put someone else as the contact point for Jolene and make sure he has nothing to do with any Ambridge cases.

DeanElderberry · 07/06/2024 19:53

And Fallon has a father. She and Kenton have always seemed to have a good and civil relationship, each respecting the other as an important part of Jolene's life, without getting all 'family' with each other. It isn't as though Kenton is short of blood relatives in Ambridge.

Bruisername · 07/06/2024 20:06

Harrison’s comment to Kenton about knowing the law because he’s a policeman seemed apt given how rubbish he seems to be!!

Fink · 07/06/2024 20:12

Although we haven't heard her own father giving any paternal advice or comfort recently, despite being in the same building as her over-enthusiastic stepfather 😅

MollyButton · 07/06/2024 20:42

It was in tonight's episode that Alice had been right about the horse and the paperwork was found.
I am worried about Oliver - surely part of the reason he sold most of the hotel was so he could step back? But now he seems to be running it on his own.
(And I thought reception was all on iPads, like a hotel I'm going to this week where you check in at the bar).

Godesstobe · 07/06/2024 20:52

Where is Adil?

Bruisername · 07/06/2024 20:53

Yes I think Oliver is going to be shattered and he has way too much on his plate. I hope he is getting more out of the hotel than the silent partners at least.

Bruisername · 07/06/2024 20:53

Adil was only ever there to manage the refurb

echt · 07/06/2024 23:02

Completely weird when Kenton said Harrison was like a son

me too @JanglyBeads

JanFebAndOnwards · 08/06/2024 00:38

Why has his sister moved into the area then?

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 08/06/2024 01:03

I think Adil has said his goodbyes and fucked off hasn't he?

echt · 08/06/2024 03:56

Nah. Like the Terminator, he'll be back. Indeed I think his sister's moving into Ambridge is entirely so he can reasonably pop back in.

TottersDeterminedlyTowardsThePollingStation · 08/06/2024 05:20

Why have I woken up thinking about Kirsty? It’s occurred to me that I never remember she has a steady income from renting out her Beechwood house to Helen. And her own accommodation costs from renting a room from Roy must be only a fraction of that.

But mainly I’m wondering what will happen when Roy (inevitably) moves permanently to Bulgaria to be with Lexi. Will he keep Willow Farm, with Kirstie renting the whole house, or sell it - to her or another Ambridge resident or a stranger? One would hope Roy (born 1978) lives a long and happy life off air, but if he kept the house it would eventually be inherited by Phoebe and Abbie. I guess a sale would be tidier for the SWs - wiping the Tuckers completely out of the Ambridge picture. (Shockingly, the BBC character list doesn’t even mention Brenda as one of his family.) And Phoebe, after all, is a minor Home Farm heiress so doesn’t need the Willow Farm connection.

If he sold the house to someone else what would that mean for Kirstie? (Would she move in with her own tenants, like Oliver at Grange Farm??)

As an aside - I do sincerely hope Lee is moving towards a fantastic job in LA, so he can be close to his daughters. I’m imagining him retaining a close relationship with Henry (in particular) to the extent that Henry might eventually opt for a US university and establish a life away from Ambridge. Leaving Jack to lord it over the Titchener acres he’s inherited in the village.

Anneofa1000days · 08/06/2024 05:31

I was waiting for a car to swerve andhit Harrison when he was talking to Fallon, dont know where they were standing but you could hear a car driving past.
I know I shouldnt say this but I dont care if Harrison gets killed but I dont want Duke to die of scangles if would make me really sad and I think Oliver would never get over it.😔

BerylBillings · 08/06/2024 07:47

Must say that listening to Fallon sounding so awkward and anxious around Harrison was putting ME on edge.

TMI about their nighttime cuddles being not of the...um...special variety.

Could an appearance by Kenton's actual daughter, Meriel, be in the offing, now that he's uttered the fateful "You're like a daughter to me?" to Fallon.
I'm hazy as to anything more than that she must be in her early 20s, grew up in NZ. Do we know any further details?

Poor Duke.

Perfect! I was thinking about Lee the other day. Helen treated him abominably. Hate to think of him sofa surfing and missing the kids.

Bruisername · 08/06/2024 08:14

I was always surprised at how little Lee seemed to see his daughters

WitcheryDivine · 08/06/2024 08:45

Not much to add just wanted to say I HAVE CAUGHT UP ON THE PROGRAMME so I finally know what you’re all talking about again (apart from the marmalade section, I skipped that as hadn’t a clue).

Trying to think what an interesting storyline would be for Kirsty now. I’d like it if she got together with someone nice who maybe has a kid already and you could have good stepparenting stories (don’t count Helen and Lee as Lee wasn’t an existing character). Or she could look into fostering/adopting? I can’t think of any adopted children in Ambridge except adopted by stepparents.

EBearhug · 08/06/2024 09:15

Didn't Oliver and Caroline do fostering briefly?

DeanElderberry · 08/06/2024 09:31

Tom and Pru Forrest fostered, Christine and her first husband adopted - since then I can't think of any apart from that side-story with Caroline and Oliver. Bit odd really.

LillianGish · 08/06/2024 10:00

Slightly surprised there's been no mention of Shula as The Stables teeters on the brink. I'm wondering if this might be the excuse the SWs were looking for to close it down (and therefore her down) completely.

TottersDeterminedlyTowardsThePollingStation · 08/06/2024 10:13

Oh Lord - another supporting structure of rural life dismantled by BBC edict?

The countryside entirely portrayed through hairdressing, (no disrespect to Chelsea) cat vettery and cake?

And no inheritance for Dan to come home to?

Fabulous. Hmm
