Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like The Archers to be wall to wall election conversations for the next month, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

So Mikey has shown up at last, I thought it was another story that would have no ending but here we are. To be honest when hairy Vince said it was a pub car park I did think it might be Mikey ,though it was a bit obvious.
Freddie is a twit and obviously has not a care about his own safety. You'd think Vince would be a bit more persuasive in trying to stop Freddie being eaten alive by snaling blood thirsty dogs.
Emma talking to George about how proud she is that he has become a nice boy now, hmm, wait til the truth comes out, which it must do when Alice comes back. Talki ng of Alice I wonder if she will take the pledge whilst she is in London, and comes back dry and remembering what happened that night.

DeanElderberry · 06/06/2024 07:47

No playlets, but there was a suggestion once of costumes. That died a death. At the time. But is another reason for going to the meeting and having a say.

I'm quite worried about Freddie and annoyed because I have to go to a community meeting at 7 this evening. I can't really weasel out because I refused to go to the last one as it was scheduled at 8.30 and I said it was too late for me. Our local Lynda Snell is very cunning.

I wouldn't worry about missing tonight's episodes (at all, or at least live at 7pm): chances that it will feature Freddie, Markie, and Vince are next to none. It's D-Day don't ya know, we're surely destined for an emotional evening of star-crossed lovers Ben & Chelsea, pensive Fallon & Lynda. Freddie's fate will be left hanging.

Fink · 06/06/2024 08:15

I tried to edit the above post to make it sound less like I was suggesting Fallon & Lynda as a couple of star-crossed lovers. It hasn't worked and now I'm locked out of editing it again. I really should try to concentrate while writing!

Ugh Freddie’s an idiot.

It’s incredible how the guilt is turning George into a nicer and more humble person, isn’t it?

EBearhug · 06/06/2024 07:07

Especially after all that "it's important to Elizabeth" stuff.

Especially after all the stuff about how Freddie's car sounded as if it was on its last legs and might not be up to a quick getaway.

TottersDeterminedlyTowardsThePollingStation · 06/06/2024 09:19

So are Lily and Freddie no longer sharing the car Elizabeth gave them? I was wondering about this last night - don’t remember hearing anything over the past few years about a change in their car circumstances.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/06/2024 09:25

Thanks for the new thread.

Was the noise at the end Freddie getting out of the car?

harriethoyle · 06/06/2024 09:35

I'm hoping that Freddie is beaten to death with a frozen leg of lamb which is then cooked and eaten a la the Roald Dahl (I think) story...

iratepirate · 06/06/2024 09:41

Did I miss how Vince would know what Markie looks like?
I know that Jolene told him about the potted history, but…

l enjoyed how the George-guilt was simmering in yesterday’s episode, too.

UnintentionalArcher · 05/06/2024 22:58

If you’re going to pick a time to start listening again, now might be a good one, if you go back a wee while to the big crash/river incident. I can’t say it’s not annoying at times, but it’s the most dramatic it’s been for ages.

I read the life story of Gail of Coronation Street yesterday and thought with relief “TA has a little way to go yet”

@DeanElderberry Which 9 fruits? You can’t leave a line like that just hanging

Did he find out more than was said in his Black Country investigations?

iratepirate · 06/06/2024 09:51

I guess so @MereDintofPandiculation
I’m sure it’s most likely that I just missed it.

DeanElderberry · 06/06/2024 10:12

All the earlier conversation making Vince sound almost human and likeable made me think the SWs were about to kill him off and needed listeners to buy into it being something important to us, but I didn't like the way it ended with foolish Freddy heading off to be a hero.

TottersDeterminedlyTowardsThePollingStation · 06/06/2024 10:16

I trust the SWs wouldn’t kill off another of Elizabeth’s men, @DeanElderberry

iratepirate · 06/06/2024 10:20

It did sound to me that Freddie was getting out of the car at the end of the ep. But I was also hanging the washing out this morning as I listened, and the chickens were pretty noisy, so I may have been mistaken.

DeanElderberry · 06/06/2024 10:20

Totters, In the olden days that would have been a great set-up for Joe Grundy to come out with a 'just as well this village doesn't have a dentist' type quip.

Indeed it WAS Dahl. "Lamb To The Slaughter". Very macabre tale. Clever. If MeatballsMikey and gang fire up a rosemary and garlic fragrant barbie, should Freddie go MIA, we're onto them.

Those adult Roald Dahl stories are great aren't they @BerylBillings - some of them are a bit terrifying!! TBF some of his children's ones are as well 😆

TherapistInATabard · 06/06/2024 11:30

Hmm I think MarkieMeatballs trips off the tongue better 😄

howdyho · 06/06/2024 12:07

"It's only meatballs, Vince!"
Freddie saying that as he got out the car made me laugh.
I'm beginning to like Freddie, he'll be fine tonight the SW won't plan another hospital scene surely.

RegimentalSturgeon · 06/06/2024 12:28

If they did, we could at least be reasonably sure he wouldn’t turn out to be sodding well pregnant. And he’s already done the busted collarbone thing.

Oh yes Tales of the Unexpected. It had Susan George as the murderess and Brain Blessed as the police man.
