Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Poor Weaver. I think I must have got something in my eye when Stella opened the photos. But I did recover quickly enough when Ruth piped up. Why didn't she hang on to the lead? Then she could have been dragged under too.

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2023 14:21

I like Ruth.

WhoppingBigBackside · 06/08/2023 20:01

Helen was very Helen tonight. I liked the idea of the ferret funfair.

Daily Mail Weekend Archers Update 6th – 11th August 2023
The Ambridge fete has finally arrived, but will Eddie’s cunning plan come off? Over at Bridge Farm, Fallon still wants to talk about the future of the Tea Room, while Tom and Helen have come to a decision about her future.

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

Might the generous offer to Fallon come from somewhere other that bridge Farm, I wonder?

Gonners · 06/08/2023 20:35

08 Aug George surprises everyone

The only way he could surprise the listeners is by doing something honest. Bearing in mind that the next day the Grundys fear the worst, that's presumably not going to happen?

WhoppingBigBackside · 06/08/2023 22:30

I expect so.

As per usual, Thanks Asking

MuddlerInLaw · 07/08/2023 08:57

Thank you, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime.

Would the overstepping and generous offer both be Ian at GG? Presumably he’ll offer Fallon a contract to supply - I dunno - cakes?

Gonners · 07/08/2023 09:07

Maybe Fallon will become Head of Desserts?

JanglyBeads · 07/08/2023 09:08

09/10/11 Stella coming to terms/ emotions running high at Brookfield/ trick Ineed for Pip????

JanglyBeads · 07/08/2023 09:08

Sorry that slightly jumbled the days but you'll get my drift.....

JanglyBeads · 07/08/2023 10:21

And should have read "trickiness" anyway

A few awkward encounters coming up. Sneaked a peek at the Episodes page.
When was Rob given this 3-month prognosis?

A few awkward encounters coming up. Sneaked a peek at the Episodes page.
When was Rob given this 3-month prognosis?

14th July, 2023.

Synopsis says:
Rob is now insisting that he needs to hear this kind of information from the chap in charge, an expert, apparently unable to comprehend that a woman might be senior to her registrar Dr Perry, who sat in at the appointment yesterday: that's who he wants to see. Helen gently tells him that Dr Webber is the lead consultant neurologist: she is the expert here. In that case Rob needs a second opinion: he prefers not to take the word of one individual, however high and mighty she regards herself. Dr Webber, keeping her temper, says she will arrange it as soon as possible. Helen asks about what next if chemo and radiotherapy aren't appropriate, and Dr Webber says they will make decision at their multi-disciplinary meeting, but there are a number of drugs that can improve quality of life: Rob asks what 'improve quality of life' means, and she tells him that minimising symptoms would be their focus as opposed to active treatment or.. She pauses and Rob demands, 'Come on. Or?' so she reluctantly adds 'or prolonging life.' He asks if this is some kind of sick joke, laughs, says he feels fine and then asks 'If it's all so bloody hopeless, how long have I got?' Her answer is that it depends on several factors, and when he demands that she put her money where her mouth is, and after further goading, she says she would expect them to be talking months. Around three, perhaps a little longer. Rob is silent; Helen asks if he's OK, and he says no, he isn't: this is beyond ridiculous. He has had enough, and walks out shouting 'Utter incompetence!'

WhoppingBigBackside · 10/08/2023 14:08

Thanks Asking. The 'or longer' could mean anything.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/08/2023 14:16

I expect Rob to be dead by the time Johnny (perhaps with a new voice) returns from sea. Assuming that Johnny does, that is.

WhoppingBigBackside · 10/08/2023 14:29

I hope he does, and with the same voice. Presumably the actor is busy elsewhere for a few months.

I don't understand why Henry would have contacted Rob, given what happened to his mother, maybe it was to push the storyline along.

WhoppingBigBackside · 10/08/2023 14:39

They don't seem to do much with Johnny, and he is Pat & Tony's grandson. I expect the two Archer children (and Natasha) to be quite pushy when it will come to their and their children's inheritances.

Johnny has some sort of tenuous link with the Horrobins - he's a half-brother of a Horrobin.

Novum · 10/08/2023 14:40

Toby turns up in the cast list soon, so I suspect that is what Pip's awkward encounter is about.

Children, perhaps especially older boys, will often try to defend their mothers from abuse.

It is one of the reasons why it's so dangerous for them to live in a home where physical violence/ abuse is occurring.

Henry misguidedly of course, due to his age- altho see: his uncle - thought he could order Rob to leave Helen alone.

WhoppingBigBackside · 10/08/2023 17:39

I thought that Henry was only 12. Tom going to see Rob was completely misguided.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/08/2023 18:00

Having also looked at the spoilers, I see Rob is in the cast list for next week. I also see that George makes a dangerous plan and a couple of days later Henry finds himself in too deep. Then the nightmare continues for Helen and she reaches the end of her tether. Putting this together, I surmise that George is going to drive Henry and probably Jack to see Rob and Rob is going to take them away with him. Oo er.

Henry is only 12. He was 12 on 2nd January, I think.

Henry was born on the day of Nigel's death, which makes his age fair-to-average memorable: 2nd January 2011. It was the 60th anniversary of the programme and killing off one of the less objectionable characters was the best VW could come up with to celebrate the fact. That and a messy emergency caesarian.

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2023 07:54

Yes Henry is 12 - and what are you suggesting therefore, TA peeps?

Sounds like Quite A Week upcoming.....

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/08/2023 10:20

From what I remember of being 12, I think Henry might think himself quite grown-up. Rob will request that he and the Sweet Baby Cheesus meet. Ghastly Geowurge will drive him there, possibly taking Jack too.
Doof doof...
