Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Joy's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for all the input on title suggestions. I'd missed the significance of 111, but @R4 and DDD, our resident numerologist, were right on to it. Strongly tempted by Bore's suggestion but couldn't resist the chance to mention my favourite ever Archers character, Nelson Gabriel. Have not managed to incorporate a cricket reference, so you'll have to read up on that for yourselves. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_(cricket)

I wonder if this thread will last till Joe's funeral.

completely unreasonable that for anything else she (or Eddie) wouldn’t just point him in the direction of the washing machine.

I would not expect Alf to know how to use a washing machine. I wouldn't trust him with my household machinery in any case, but I suspect even if you did show him the wm, he might decide things can carry on without being washed for quite a bit longer than the rest of us might want.

chemenger · 28/10/2019 13:09

SW - so that’s the two new characters established, Alf the lovable rogue with the oscillating pirate accent and Joy the cheery chatterbox. Now we just need plot lines for them.

NI- maybe Alf could bungle burgling Joy, he could be arrested and jailed and she could die of fright.

SW- not bad, young person, then we could have Joy’s daughter come for her funeral and hang around a bit. Roxanne is it?

NI - I asked my mum about pregnant cats, like you asked. She says it’s pretty obvious long before they give birth. She also says that you can’t miss when they’re on heat (a bit like Kate, lots of noisy self-centred shouting and chasing any available male) and it is unbearable to live with.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/10/2019 13:21

GrinGrin Oh, Chemenger, I think I love you 😍😍

Grin Grin

Anyone else getting intermittent adverts for a clothing line called Rochelle after posting on this thread? Made me smile when I made the connection.

These occasional interludes with the New Intern are joyful.

So much more fun than The Actual Archers 😊

JennyWoodentop · 28/10/2019 13:35

I assumed Alf was introduced to be around for Talk Like a Pirate Day

That has made me laugh so much more than any of the recent "comedy" plot lines

MadameButterface · 28/10/2019 14:15

Wtf atm archers???

It feels like anything normal and sensible has been put on hold while the brexit shitshow continues and they’re scared to delve into any longterm SLs because of it. So we have all this ridiculous filler, plus necessary things like joe dying. I haven’t found TA this hard going since the days of jenny’s endless kitchen refurb, the storyline that kept on giving.

I am another old face from mustardland. I was around from 2003/2004 ish, i went to a hebden bridge meet up while pg with eldest child. I often think about the old crew. Good times.

NewName73 · 28/10/2019 14:39

YY about the parcel delivery.

There's the MN special too - people taking in parcels for the neighbours (or not!)

Round here, there are frequent posts on the local FB page about mis-delivered parcels, and people often know the names of the local courier delivery people for the area (As in, anyone seen XXX the Hermes guy today, I'm waiting ...).

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/10/2019 16:30

Round here, there are frequent posts on the local FB page about mis-delivered parcels We have photographs of front doors with "Does anyone recognise this? This is where Hermes say they've delivered my parcel"

Not sure this is relevant to TA - was there a couple of posts I missed reading?

MadameButterfingers · 28/10/2019 16:36

Ooh arr! The NI done good. Keep 'em coming chemenger
Loved the comparison of Kate to a cat on heat.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/10/2019 16:59

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g
No one in Ambridge ever gets anything delivered by Amazon or any other online retailer.

Except Will, who got his groceries delivered so that MiaPoreLilMite could be inconvenienced by having agreed to be in when they arrived.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/10/2019 17:00

I love chemengers use of "Young Person".

It feels cosy, affectionate and avuncular. Reminds me of P G Wodehouse.

Please, let us have more NI interludes!!

Madcats · 28/10/2019 17:42

By the sounds of it I probably shouldn't bother catching up with the Archers omnibus (I think I have missed about 4 days now). Instead I'll just imagine how awful it was!

If there is a big fat hole in the episodes because of non-Brexit you'd think they would make a bit more of an effort to find out about cat biology. Particularly when the blooming vet has spent so much time round at Peggy's place.

NewName73 · 28/10/2019 17:52

Not sure this is relevant to TA - was there a couple of posts I missed reading?

No, it's just me musing about how unlike real life TA is, because the current actual plotlines are so unengaging.

The parcels post was in response to one from Gaspode earlier today...

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/10/2019 18:11

I'm fairly sure Freddie has no desire whatsoever to read Shula's autobiography!

He was just charming her so that she would let him have a party!

In case anyone hasn't realised it yet I Love Freddie!!

There! I've said it! It's out there now!

Motoko · 28/10/2019 18:53

Well, Freddie's certainly improved since his time in the clink. He used to be so whiney.

I am worried that something will go wrong with his party though. It sounds a bit risky.

MadameButterfingers · 28/10/2019 18:55

I love Freddie too but wish he was a bit more like Nigel. I loved Nigel.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/10/2019 19:19

Sorry, but what the was that load of *** all about?

MikeUniformMike · 28/10/2019 19:48

I rather enjoy the Kate and Jakob scenes.

echt · 28/10/2019 20:07

I know Jakob hasn't been around for very long, but weren't the SWs trialling him as possibly on the spectrum at the start, and now he's talkative enough as he's being ground under Kaye's heel.

echt · 28/10/2019 20:07

Kate.

Motoko · 29/10/2019 01:29

Well, he didn't pick up her cues, the fact that she was playing head games. It took Alice (and then Kate) to spell it out to him.

EBearhug · 29/10/2019 02:10

two new characters established, Alf the lovable rogue with the oscillating pirate accent

More like occasional returning character in this case, but the SW needn't get hung up on details like that...

EBearhug · 29/10/2019 02:14

Didn't Natasha get a load of stuff online, paid for by credit card? Especially stuff for the housewarming.

Why has Jakob agreed to get back with Kate after she treated him like that?

HeronLanyon · 29/10/2019 03:31

Anyone else slightly obsessed by the ‘just a couple of old lottery tickets’ more than the Carmen mystery?
