Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Joy's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for all the input on title suggestions. I'd missed the significance of 111, but @R4 and DDD, our resident numerologist, were right on to it. Strongly tempted by Bore's suggestion but couldn't resist the chance to mention my favourite ever Archers character, Nelson Gabriel. Have not managed to incorporate a cricket reference, so you'll have to read up on that for yourselves. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_(cricket)

I wonder if this thread will last till Joe's funeral.

Thanks, Gasp0de, for keeping us going. I spoke off the cuff at the end of the last thread, but I've checked my numbers now and the 111,111th post will come on thread #114, which we should reach in early February (assuming the usual Christmas slowdown of posting).

When's Joe's funeral? Threads normally last around 3-4 weeks.

MikeUniformMike · 23/10/2019 18:18

Will it last until Hilda is found?

MikeUniformMike · 23/10/2019 18:19

Thanks Gasp0de.

TheSilveryPussycat · 23/10/2019 18:43

An advert has appeared on my page "Man tries to save animal trapped in wet sweater" Does Buzzfeed know something we don't?

EBearhug · 23/10/2019 18:57

I think Joe''s funeral is in November. I don't remember the exact date, but I do remember thinking it seemed a very long way off. We had 3 weeks till my mother's funeral, which was a bit too long, there were reasons, and I remember hearing the date of Joe's (Clarrie told someone) and thinking, that's even longer.

SurpriseSparDay · 23/10/2019 19:01

Thank you Gasp0. Cute title.

(And a belated BOOP for Bert’s Oriel ...)

SurpriseSparDay · 23/10/2019 19:02

Friday November 8th, IIRC.

SurpriseSparDay · 23/10/2019 19:17

So I’m basically going to have to kill CMR all over again?

Halloween AngryHalloween AngryHalloween Angry

MikeUniformMike · 23/10/2019 19:24

How long before Lizzie starts to rely on CMR to be her therapist?
How long before they're having it off?
Is ComedyJoy meant to be funny?

BertrandRussell · 23/10/2019 19:30

Ridiculous to introduce more characters when they don’t seem to have time to deal with the ones they’ve already got.

R4 · 23/10/2019 19:39

Thanks for the new thread Gasp.
I'm so pleased that you managed to get young Mr Gabriel in the title, I couldn't think how to do it!

birdsdestiny · 23/10/2019 19:42

Surely the actor who plays Tony must be cringing having to act in those ridiculous scenes.

Fink · 23/10/2019 19:47

Thanks for the thread, Gaspode

birdsdestiny, I feel sorry for the actor playing Joy. She must be wondering whether the cachet of a starring role in the Archers is worth this drivel, and hoping that no one recognises her IRL.

Taswama · 23/10/2019 21:33

Thanks for the new thread Gaspode

MissBarbary · 23/10/2019 23:19

I'm not wholly convinced by Russ being such a visible snob about Tracey.

Russ would snobbish about things - stuff like the right artisan coffee, the right Iberian ham, vintage clothes, music no one else has heard of , stylish holiday destinations etc , etc , etc ,etc but I don't think he would be so visibly snobbish about Tracey.

He still thinks he is an artist and shouldn't an artist be cool about people like Tracey from the wrong side of the tracks? Even if inwardly thinks she's awful I don't think he would let it show.

birdsdestiny · 23/10/2019 23:26

Perhaps he is jealous. Perhaps he is a bit fascinated by Tracey. I would quite enjoy Tracey knocking him back.

R4 · 23/10/2019 23:36

Tracey sees CMR for what he is, and voices it. She can't even be accused of malice; it's simply a case of opening her mouth before engaging her brain, of (to quote Roy Walker) "say what you see".
That's why Russ is trying to discredit and belittle her.

inkysplatter · 23/10/2019 23:48

I agree R4 but I also think he's a little jealous of what he perceives her and Oliver's relationship to be. He was trying to use Lily to keep him. Perhaps it feels a little too close to home? Although he is awful and Tracey is my favourite.

Thanks for the new thread and cracking title.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2019 23:49

Thanks Gasp0de

Can't wait for Smugs to inform Ollie about the rumours. I'm hoping he'll say "It's all true and I'm having the time of my life!"

inkysplatter · 23/10/2019 23:49

So am I the only one rooting for Joy's bonkers scheme?

Fink · 24/10/2019 08:33

So am I the only one rooting for Joy's bonkers scheme?

Yes, you are.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 24/10/2019 08:48

No, you're not, inkysplatter!

I mean, I don't think it will work, but I'm all in favour of anything that will help find a lost cat.

It's a horrible feeling when your cat disappears, and your mind is running riot imagining all kinds of terrible possibilities.

Luckily, most of mine have returned whenever they've been AWOL and breezed in, totally unaware of the anguish they've put me through 😼🙀

EBearhug · 24/10/2019 08:56

I also think he's a little jealous of what he perceives her and Oliver's relationship to be.

Accusing Tracey of going after anyone with money, I did think he was making (wrong) assumptions based on his own motivations.

Fink · 24/10/2019 08:58

Out of interest, those of you in favour of trying Joy's scheme. How would anyone be able to prove that her 'method' had worked? If & when Hilda does reappear, is she supposed to somehow communicate that it was through Joy's work and not for any other reason?

I was really pissed off last night by Tony saying that 'all the women in my family seem to have taken leave of their senses!' Of course, silly women would fall for this con/be too weak to risk being rude to Joy (exactly like Tony himself), not like the logical men. Angry

EBearhug · 24/10/2019 09:28

all the women in my family seem to have taken leave of their senses

He seemed to mean Pat and Lilian and possibly Peggy by that, no mention of Jenny or Helen or Natasha.
