If the Manchester landlords did a basic money claim for rent arrears, I think they could potentially get a judgment and a warrant for the bailiffs quite quickly.

It would be nice to think that Lizzie will deduct Russ's half of the debt from his wages ...

BertrandRussell · 02/05/2019 21:20

I would imagine Lizzie will have quite a hefty limit on her credit card, won’t she? After all- Natasha has!

LassOfFyvie · 02/05/2019 21:23

I really, really dislike Lily. What a stupid little twerp she is. Did she really think she could just swan off without paying the rent?

Elizabeth is so annoying too.

Acis · 02/05/2019 21:24

Bit difficult to imagine that no-one's been looking at Lizzie's post for months. Does that mean Russ someone has been hiding it?

LassOfFyvie · 02/05/2019 21:28

Well yes, especially given that golden girl Lily swanned in to help. I don't think Russ will have been hiding it. It's probably just a plot hole or Lily has been pretending it wasn't happening.

BertrandRussell · 02/05/2019 21:53

I wouldn’t put it past Russ to hide the letters. Well, the old denial is a river in Egypt Russ, anyway. Not sure this new pillar of the community Russ would.

Taswama · 02/05/2019 21:59

Place marking as just noticed new thread. Behind on listening.

I hope in all the excitement the residents of Ambridge remembered to vote!

EBearhug · 03/05/2019 01:05

I hope in all the excitement the residents of Ambridge remembered to vote!

Didn't Emma say something a couple of weeks ago about there being no other candidates, so election not required?

BagpussAteMyHomework · 03/05/2019 03:00

Surely parish council not the same as these local elections?

floribunda18 · 03/05/2019 03:14

I thought it was probably a debit card, not a credit card.

JessieMcJessie · 03/05/2019 07:13

Remind me why Lily and Russ couldn’t pay their rent- Elizabeth was paying Lily’s share but Russ failed to earn any money to pay his half? It was never the plan for Lily to work to pay her rent was it? If she had been in halls Elizabeth would just have paid that. I couldn’t work out why Elizabeth didn’t immediately demand that Russ get his arse in to explain himself. Where was he?

LillianGish · 03/05/2019 08:10

Jessie was coming on to post exactly the same thing. Lily has no income - Elizabeth was paying her rent. DD off to uni (God willing) in October and we will pay her rent up front. The missing rent is what is owed by CMR so I can’t understand why his name didn’t even come up yesterday. Even if he was not working he must have some funds somewhere - there is no reason on earth why Elizabeth would feel she had to support him as well.
Re. Gnasher, is it possible that her marriage to Tom was a scam all along, cooked up by her and Trev? Would she be entitled to anything after such a short time or is it possible she has taken out more credit cards from their new address which he will now be liable for?

R4 · 03/05/2019 08:26

Re. Gnasher, is it possible that her marriage to Tom was a scam all along, cooked up by her and Trev?
I hope not. I don't want Bridge Farm to be able to spin it as "it was all her fault". Tom needs a bit of introspection and to think about why all his relationships fail.

autumntimebrowns · 03/05/2019 08:36

Just a couple of tiny things. I pretty sure you can't pay bailiffs with a credit card. It would have to have been a debut card, because of charge back on credit cards the monies not really secured.

And if Natasha takes out more credit, the address won't matter, and unless she fraudulently uses tom as either joint applicant or a guarantor in a loan it won't be his debt. Credit cards are taken out only be one person. It's possible to have a second card holder, but they aren't jointly liable. Lots of loans are taken out online though. With an electronic agreement. But if you're a guarantor you should get paperwork stating you've agreed online.

As they have a joint loan they are financially linked so there is a possibility that toms credit score will suffer in the future.

LassOfFyvie · 03/05/2019 08:42

or is it possible she has taken out more credit cards from their new address which he will now be liable for?

Spouses are onlyresponsiblefor the other spouse's debtsifthey hadajoint loan or a joint agreement or provideda loan guarantee. Gnasha can run up as much credit card debt as she likes from any address she wants. It is nothing to do with Tom.

You can pay by credit card. Charge back is there to protect customers when something goes wrong with a transaction. That isn't what happened here.

Motoko · 03/05/2019 09:14

I too was surprised that there was no mention of Russ. Landlords have to have 2 full months with no money for rent being paid, before they can take the tenants to court for eviction and repayment of money. If the tenant pays some money towards the rent, (ie, Lily's half) then I think they'd need to give notice for the end of the fixed term, and then use the deposit, and take it to court for the remaining monies owed.
The bailiff said she was from the High Court. The High Court is used by landlords to fast track payment.

Lizzie certainly should be having serious words with Russ about why he wasn't paying his share.

I hope there's nothing nefarious about Len, I quite like him, and it seems he's a good influence for Freddie.

LassOfFyvie · 03/05/2019 09:23

You are muddling eviction and payment of the rent. A landlord can pursue unpaid rent without going for eviction. They don't have to wait until a certain amount is due before they can pursue arrears of rent.

Motoko · 03/05/2019 10:08

Ah, I stand corrected.

BertrandRussell · 03/05/2019 10:54

I assume Russ didn’t pay anything- and Lily tried to pay for everything with her student loan and whatever she was earning.

BertrandRussell · 03/05/2019 10:55

Including his Monsoon Malabar coffee...

InvisibleLlamaBurningCamel · 03/05/2019 11:06

I'm confused about the tea-room. In several episodes it was deathly quiet and left-over cakes were being given away etc. And, IIRC Tyler had already left by that point. Then, all of a sudden, they are rushed off their feet and need help. Another SL that's not really making sense - or have I missed something?

BertrandRussell · 03/05/2019 11:15

Yes- I thought Natasha was turning her beady eyes on the tea room as her next victim when Emma was offering free cake......

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/05/2019 11:23

Are they selling her juice in the tea room?
