Great title Lilian.

DadDadDad · 16/05/2019 13:30

Tom's negotiation skills are terrible: just start with a number and keep increasing it every time Jim made a point. Haven't we seen this before when Tom rushed into some negotiations with Justin?

He should have surely said £1000, then asked for their counter-offer, then said he would consider it and get back to them. Mind you, Jazzer didn't help himself but he seems incapable of grasping any of the detail.

@GabrielleNelson - don't forget to include a link to this guide when you start a new thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have

Also, on earlier question, threads seem to last 2.5 to 3 weeks these days (shorter if something really dramatic happens), so June Spencer's birthday will probably fall during thread #105.

Would that be the lasting effect of whatever Jazzer addled his brain with, years ago? Well done to the SWs if they’re actively referencing his brain damage. (Although they may need to refer to it directly for new or forgetful listeners!)

GabrielleNelson · 16/05/2019 14:05

Will do, DDD! I'm expecting to spring into action later today, primed with the excellent title suggestion from Lilian.

Was it ketamine Jazzer took? During that odd interlude when Alistair's partner in the veterinary practice turned out to be a drug dealer. Hmm

EBearhug · 16/05/2019 14:09

Mind you, Jazzer didn't help himself but he seems incapable of grasping any of the detail.

Well, quite - he just didn't seem to pay any attention, but you didn't need to be an expert in negotiation to realise Jim could have gone quite a bit higher. And Tom shouldn't have said anything until Jim had stopped coming up with new points.

If Jazzer's previous drug history is being made relevant, makes you wonder if he didn't have any negotiating skills from those days dealings.

ppeatfruit · 16/05/2019 14:12

Yes he couldn't become an efficient Barista even with Fallon helping him in the cafe. Maybe he's more affected by the brain damage than he realises.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/05/2019 14:17

I think they couldn't drive Tom too far because Jazzer will be back at Bridge Farm soom enough.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 14:25

🔮Jazzer will invest, with Rex, in buying Tom’s pigs. Much better than swapping one boss for another.

Reading the odd Archers book I’ve been agog at the number of not-First-Family villagers who find themselves unaccountably in possession of nice little plots of land or a small, thriving business - quite out of the blue. So it’ll be interesting to see how Jazzer’s life is turned around.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 14:26

(Wait - have Tom’s pigs already been sold? Other pigs, if so.)

ppeatfruit · 16/05/2019 14:36

No George Tom is running down the business, so not buying , or breeding any more after the inevitable sales have happened.

BertrandRussell · 16/05/2019 14:52

But Tom’s keeping the sausage business isn’t he- just buying in the pork? So what would Jazzer and Rex do with theirs?

BertrandRussell · 16/05/2019 14:53

Why don’t you ever hear about pig milk?

thislido · 16/05/2019 14:57

No idea, but possibly the practicality of milking them, or yield.

BertrandRussell · 16/05/2019 15:02

But they feed 10 piglets and they grow phenomenally fast....I reckon that’s Bridge Farm’s next —nut hub idea— business venture. Pig Cheese.

thislido · 16/05/2019 15:04

I’m not sure they are especially amenable to milking.

thislido · 16/05/2019 15:05

Pork cheese is a thing. Otherwise known as head cheese.

GabrielleNelson · 16/05/2019 15:05

Cheese does go very well with pork/ham/bacon/sausages, so you could be on to something there, Bert!

thislido · 16/05/2019 15:10

Piglets feeding
Could you?

Although pigs’ milk is high in fat (around 8.5% compared to cows milk at 3.9%) and is an excellent source of nutrients, sows are very difficult to milk. They have around 14 teats compared to a cow’s four, and they don’t take very kindly to having them touched by humans. They also get very agitated if you try to restrain them. Pigs also have a limited milk ejection time of around 15 seconds, whereas a cow’s can be up to 10 minutes. All in all, it’s a pig-shed load of trouble to milk a porker.
