I like that Lillian. Very chapel, very Joe.

Acis · 16/05/2019 08:53

Not sure that Freddie really has grown up. It shouldn't be difficult for him to join the dots re the licence: if it was lost because of his arrest, why on earth would the fact that he was convicted but back living on the premises persuade anyone to restore the licence? Likewise, why go in for the Hidden Loxley thing without doing some elementary research into pricing?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 08:55

Reasons Lass:

They are Will’s step-children. He brought them up. He loves them, as do the other Grundys. I know it’s just a story but he must be devastated to lose them too. It will be a continual ache in the narrative if they disappear completely.

Don’t know how it would work out in rl but doesn’t Poppy have some right not to be suddenly wrenched from her step-siblings?

Quite independently of any other contenders to possession of the 🔮 (Wink) I also see a future Ruairi/Mia thing happening. They have a lot in common and a poetically tangential connection to Ambridge.

Love your title suggestion Lil’G - though I maybe see him ‘fenced in’ rather than on the fence.

Acis · 16/05/2019 08:57

If the finances are as dire as Kenton says, Lily needs to reflect on why they're paying CMR to do an extra job, particularly when he's been getting free board and lodging for months and Lizzie has shelled out to pay his portion of the rent arrears. I doubt that they've stopped paying Lewis.

LillianGish · 16/05/2019 09:02

Fast falls the eventide for Joe Grundy, the darkness deepens for Ed - will he be fenced in or is there still time for acts of pennants? Abide with us and discuss The Archers
Is that better?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 09:02

As Julia’s widower, with LL accommodation, and presumably some pension of his own I doubt Lewis needs paying.

LillianGish · 16/05/2019 09:09

I’d completely forgotten Lewis and Julia had married. It makes his total disappearance even more of a mystery.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 09:14

I missed that whole story on air - only know about it from reading.

Perhaps the actor was busy elsewhere or found TA too unpredictable as employment?

thislido · 16/05/2019 09:18

Ohhhh, that’s why Lewis is there. I had no idea.

LillianGish · 16/05/2019 09:21

He could have been mentioned in passing - like Cathy. Or just become another silent character like Mrs Pugsley used to be or Jessica the bird woman or indeed just about anyone who works there. In fact he would have been in very good company in the silent order that is the LL workforce.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 09:22

Here’s Lewis’ Who’s Who entry. ‘Ware photo!

thislido · 16/05/2019 09:27

Oh I’ve read that before and obviously immediately forgot about it!

thislido · 16/05/2019 09:28

But thank you!

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 16/05/2019 09:42

Neither Elizabeth nor Lily can think clearly about LL at the moment. They’re both - for different reasons - choosing to ignore its slow progress towards ruin.

I think Freddie (who I actually don’t much care for as a character) might surprise everybody and find hitherto unsuspected reserves of resolution and grit.

ppeatfruit · 16/05/2019 09:51

Ref. admission prices to stately homes; dh's grandmother was bought up in one in Cornwall owned by the NT, we visited and everyone able to do so saw the attics, it was included in the basic entrance price.

MikeUniformMike · 16/05/2019 11:10

Jake and Mia became Grundys when Nic married Will. They asked to have the same surname.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 11:13

I wonder MUM if that was circumstantial or actually intended as part of a very long term commitment to their being part of the story.

MikeUniformMike · 16/05/2019 11:25

No idea. The changes of editors makes it difficult to guess. Kathy has vanished despite being a major character for years.
I suspect that Mia will be around for a while, and the Buttons will have voices when Ben and Ruauri or George take an interest in them.

Acis · 16/05/2019 11:34

I’d completely forgotten Lewis and Julia had married. It makes his total disappearance even more of a mystery.

Me too, I was convinced he was employed in some capacity! How bizarre that we never hear him interacting with his DiL and step-grandchildren despite being in and out of LL on a frequent basis, at least till CMR took over the gallery.

Acis · 16/05/2019 11:35

Liking LilianGish's thread title suggestion!

LassOfFyvie · 16/05/2019 12:35

They are Will’s step-children. He brought them up. Helovesthem, as do the other Grundys. I know it’s just a story but he must be devastated to lose them too. It will be a continual ache in the narrative if they disappear completely

They are also Andrew's children. Regardless of what Will thinks or feels there is very little affection now for him from Mia and Jake.

Don’t know how it would work out in rl but doesn’t Poppy have some right not to be suddenly wrenched from her step-siblings?

Aren't they her half- siblings? Poppy is the only Grundy they are related to. I don't know what "right" you think Poppy has but if Mia and Jake don't want to see the Grundys that's up to them.

LassOfFyvie · 16/05/2019 12:39

Neither Elizabeth nor Lily can think clearly about LL at the moment. They’re both - for different reasons - choosing to ignore its slow progress towards ruin

Elizabeth and her breathy voice are just annoying. I imagine her wafting about the place in a useless but elegant decline.

The licence situation is absurd.

Acis · 16/05/2019 12:45

It was insane for Tom to engage in the discussion about Jazzer's potential claim without getting legal advice. If he had any sense at all, he would have just listened and then said fine, I'll get back to you after I've talked to my solicitor.

Still, I suppose it is totally in character for Tom not to do the sensible thing.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/05/2019 12:45

Yes, of course - half siblings rather than step! Was rushing and forgot poor Nic!

As regards Poppy - I meant in purely human terms - it would be cruel for her to have them suddenly removed from her life. Not talking about real people but wondering how the SWs are likely to move forward. They’ll surely want to indicate some continuing relationship between Poppy and Jake & Mia?
