Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

Because she hates Brian Saturday and it's any excuse to moan.

ChakiraChakra · 08/01/2019 09:03

Minimammoth
I am a bit behind, but commend Lily actress for expressing the unsaid. Longing to stay and almost pleading for an excuse not to go to Manchester, I wonder what life is really like for her up there.

Living nowhere near uni, not having time to make friends and go out with them, finding the workload harder than expected, cooking and cleaning for her cocklodger and worrying about money. I'm finding that storyline interesting, but I think the SWs will be brutal with her. I'm guessing maybe emotional abuse (he's already started that), debt, he runs off with her wealth or similar.

Who does kirsty lodge with? Where does she work, the tea rooms? I only got seriously into TA when Helen's storyline started so that's my excuse for not always knowing wtf is going on

BitOutOfPractice · 08/01/2019 09:05

I think Kirsty is the manager of the health spa bit of Grey Gables

ErrolTheDragon · 08/01/2019 09:29

And she lodges with Roy.

The noise from the music on that episode sounded quite loud to me, much more than a TV would have been. Volume set at detached levels, not semi - especially not for a semi which was originally one house.

Kirsty was in a bad mood but I don't entirely blame her.

Because she hates Brian Saturday and it's any excuse to moan

No more than he hates her only historically he has always held the power in the relationship.

Brian's comment about "eco feminists" when Kirsty wanted them to turn the noise down was both misogynist and massively entitled. When Kirsty was talking to Helen the noise sounded like it was in Roy's house.

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2019 09:40

I like\support Kirsty usually but it wasn't very late, even Helen said so. Slightly unreasonable of her. Brian is a dinosaur everyone knows that.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 08/01/2019 10:06

Kirsty was the one who swam in the toxic Am among all the dead fish.

echt · 08/01/2019 10:33

The blame is all on the Aldridges' side. They had the party, they should have warned.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 08/01/2019 10:52

Roy is Phoebes father - he should have been invited! Even with the 'no younger generation' stipulation, he is now loving next door.

Notso · 08/01/2019 10:54

Delurking (I read and enjoy every thread, thank you all) to say I am amazed that Roy is supposed to be good looking. In my head is Eric Catchpole from Lovejoy!
Also I have two tagines both unwanted gifts cook a tagine around once a month but never in the tagines.

R4 · 08/01/2019 10:55

The Gills took over Home Farm, had a party but invited nobody local and it was considered bad form.
The Aldridges took over Willow Farm, had a party but invited nobody from the other half of the semi. It was bad form. JD probably would have done the right thing ... but she wasn't the one organising it!

SaturdayNext · 08/01/2019 10:56

I can't see them doing another emotional abuse storyline with Lily, it would be a bit ridiculous. I'm hoping that if anything it will be a counter to the Helen story, i.e. that Lily will realise what a pillock Russ is and kick him out.

Abra1de · 08/01/2019 11:23

I am not sure my parents would ask my brother’s ex and mother of two of his children to a small birthday party.

MikeUniformMike · 08/01/2019 12:40

HatingTheBigShow, Tom didn't even say it quite right, he said Hir Aeth. Pah! Are there many Natashas in Capel Curig? I thought people tended to give their daughters Welsh names around there.

MikeUniformMike · 08/01/2019 12:44

The music was loud and there were people outside smoking. Might be annoying to a healthclub manager with an early shift the next day.
It's understandable that she would discourage Helen - they are close friends and she wouldn't want her friend to get hurt.

SaturdayNext · 08/01/2019 13:17

If Kirsty was worried about an early shift, she'd hardly have Helen round.

EBearhug · 08/01/2019 13:23

Living with Roy in his current Dementor mood probably drains any optimism from anyone in the vicinity. No hope of a happy ending. Not surprised Kirsty isn't feeling forgiving about the party or encouraging to Helen.

Minimammoth · 08/01/2019 14:17

And Kirsty I’d fed up .
The Aldridge’s contained at home farm are tolerable but they don’t know how to live in the community.
Agree with the Natashas of Capel Curig. Definitely would be a welsh name.

birdsdestiny · 08/01/2019 16:26

If I was living with Roy I would be in prison by now, never mind just being a bit grumpy with the neighbours.

Minimammoth · 08/01/2019 16:38

So we know Lexie’s last transfer failed, only one to go.

MrsArthurShappey · 08/01/2019 16:39

Natasha said her parents had moved there at some point, so could have moved from South Wales (where the frankly flippin fabulous Mali Harries hails from). My boss here in mid Wales has a granddaughter called Natasha.

MrsArthurShappey · 08/01/2019 16:39

Do you think Kirsty and Roy will end up together?

MerdedeBrexit · 08/01/2019 16:50

No, MrsArthurShappey, they are not suited at all.

cheminotte · 08/01/2019 18:23

Something tells me Alice isn’t doing Dry January...

JessieMcJessie · 08/01/2019 18:36

I was glad that they had drunk Alice again last night, I was wondering if they had droppped the young-woman-with-drink-problem storyline but looks like it is gathering pace.
