Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

Absolutely agree Bertrand, Lee just came across like a fuckwit but I think we were supposed to like him.

And frankly, even if the date had been in a completely mud-free indoor setting, white trainers are not a good look. They scream out middle aged fat American tourist.

ChakiraChakra · 22/01/2019 12:14

Call me naive but I like Lee, white trainers and all. I think he'll be good for Helen. I hope Kirsty doesn't give her any more bad advice.

birdsdestiny · 22/01/2019 12:18

I think we are supposed to like him because he's not rob.

R4 · 22/01/2019 12:23

white trainers are not a good look. They scream out middle aged fat American tourist.
I believe that white trainers - looking bandbox new and pristine i.e. not muddy! - are fashionable with the yoof at the moment but don't they have to be accompanied by absence of sock?

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2019 12:27

I like him too Chakira he seems younger than Helen maybe he'll cheer her up, which he seems to be doing already (though why is she frightened of Ruth knowing about them? ). he's not used to the muddy farmland, she'll educate him.

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2019 12:29

Or he was wearing his best trainers and lightweight jacket to impress her on their first 'proper' date! Sweet.

MereDintofPandiculation · 22/01/2019 12:53

'Sod that for a game of soldiers one of my favourite sayings In that case, comfortablylow you'll like the very similarly named cave FTFAGOS Pot. I've not been in it (I'm not stupid), but I think it's tight, muddy, wet in parts, with some awkward contortions, and doesn't really go anywhere.

Comfortablylow · 22/01/2019 13:29

I enjoyed googling that MereDint cheers! Wouldn't enjoy it though, speleology is not for me.

DadDadDad · 22/01/2019 13:54

speleology is not for me

Okay, Comfortablylow, that eliminates one theory for your choice of username. Are you perhaps a fan of limbo dancing? Grin

I believe we have a proposal for the next thread title, but have we settled the matter of who is going to start the thread?

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2019 14:21

This is getting a touch too highbrow for me. Grin I was struck by Tom's " If all goes well" referring to the Montys' journey. Have they chosen the wrong time of year! We were on the northern motorways in Fr. this time last year; there was driving snow, the lorries were banned from going round Paris, and from the outer lanes, which a lot of them ignored, which caused crashes resulting in terrible tailbacks, one of the roads was closed for over 24 hours. Not good for cattle even in air conditioned lorries.

MikeUniformMike · 22/01/2019 14:26

Damian and Amanda it is. Macy-Craig or Craig-Macy?

MereDintofPandiculation · 22/01/2019 14:54

Okay, Comfortablylow, that eliminates one theory for your choice of username. Are you perhaps a fan of limbo dancing? I just assumed it was heels. Unimaginative, me.

DadDadDad · 22/01/2019 15:06

Heels - oh, yes, my manbrain didn't think of that.

Bittermints · 22/01/2019 15:16

I'm happy to start the next thread, if that's OK with everyone else. This one has filled up very fast!

Comfortablylow · 22/01/2019 15:19

Not to worry DDD that didn't occur to my womanbrain, even being the sort who's happiest in welliesGrin

DadDadDad · 22/01/2019 15:32

For a moment, I thought "Comfortably low" was a line from a Lewis Carroll poem. But the Walrus and the Carpenter sit on a rock that's "conveniently low" I seem to remember. Anyway, I notice you're not admitting what the real origin is.

I think the job is yours, Bittermints. Careful, it might become permanent...

MereDintofPandiculation · 22/01/2019 16:03

Not to worry DDD that didn't occur to my womanbrain, even being the sort who's happiest in wellies So what does your username refer to comfortablylow?

InkySplatter · 22/01/2019 16:14

Is it impolite to hazard a guess at 'standards?' Comfortably Low. We're all friends here after all.

Downhill all the way sounds like my idea half marathon Bittermints

Actually that's a lie - I hate going down hill except by bike. Uphill so much kinder on the ankles.

Can one activate the text in app? And what's the new title?

I've worked numerous bars wth no till/ calculator too. On my trial shift in a Brighton pub I later became the duty manager of I shocked them by realising I'd made error on the till because it wasn't a viable total.

LillianGish · 22/01/2019 16:15

We haven’t yet discussed Natasha’s introduction to the Bridge Farm management team. Tom seems to have brought her in by stealth and no one has bothered to challenge him. It’s not going to end well is it?

Comfortablylow · 22/01/2019 16:49

Definately my status in life! and not far off Inky! but it comes from my unintentional misquoting of a Pink Floyd song I was humming the other day.

cheminotte · 22/01/2019 16:53

That’s a very good point Lil.
I think Helen sounded surprised but was too busy getting ready for her date to query it properly.

Bittermints · 22/01/2019 17:04

I was just about to mention Pink Floyd, Comfortablylow! I'm a great misquoter of song lyrics. My best ever effort is I can see clearly now the rain has come. Grin

OK, I'll start off the next thread. Will now search this one for title suggestions. Last chance to add another one!

Am I right in thinking the Tom introducing N to the family firm story is a repeat of Helen pushing for Rob to be accepted at management meetings after a very short time of being linked to the family? I seem to recall a scene where Helen was arguing with Pat about Rob being part of the family as ‚he‘s my partner‘. Doubtless at Knob‘s insistence.

Waitrosenkavelier · 22/01/2019 17:25

I was just listening to DumTeeDum and they were talking about Tom and Helen and how neither of them pick up emotional cues, and specifically, something about Johnny.

Can someone remind me how Johnny came tp Bridge Farm? Did he write to Pat and Tone. I just can't remember.

LillianGish · 22/01/2019 17:37

I can't believe how quickly this thread has filled up. I'm wondering if DDD's stats enable him to tell me whether this is as a result of more people posting or whether we are all just posting more frequently?
