Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

How much did Kenton borrow off David please? I'm guessing it was for refurbishing The Bull?

I'm keen for an answer to this too. I have a vague notion that Kenton "invested" in Scruff Gin didn't he? That was the last time I remember David behind angry at him for not paying him back instead.

Speaking of Scruff gin, does Toby still owe Pip £5k?

FreezerBird · 07/01/2019 19:19

Oops - may have just muttered "oh do fuck off Brian" at the radio in my children's hearing... I think I got away with it.

R4 · 07/01/2019 19:26

Dunno. When they can get away with it, the SW are usually very vague about money.

Theunsungsong · 07/01/2019 19:35

What happened to Ruth's inheritance from Heatherpet? it must have been a significant amount. I vaguely remember David gloating about the cash injection, has it all been spent?

birdsdestiny · 07/01/2019 19:54

I hate the way Kenton behaves in relation to money.

Abra1de · 07/01/2019 20:05

Kirsty is so grumpy these days.

InkySplatter · 07/01/2019 20:26

I think Jenny's done so well, she is versatile Lillian G. She made the decision to sell up after all. I think there's so much more to her than we see.

I dislike Brian but wow, I dislike Kirsty more. The neighbours have 1 birthday party and the way she groans because it's so loud she feels she can't hear herself dining out appalling advice and whinging about her dead end job. If she doesn't like it, the customers or the business (and this is not the first time this has come up) why doesn't she do something worthy?

I'm fascinated by everyone's spare kettles. When I was growing up we used a sauce pan to boil water in for tea. We had nice Liberty's frocks but definitely no kettle and also no phone.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/01/2019 20:39

I can't quite believe how rude Kirsty is being, she's really openly contemptuous.

Kenton's relationship with money is some sort of compulsive disorder, isn't it. Try to be sensible for a month or two... spend! spend! spend! What's he bought since he's owed money to David? A new car, a share in Scruff gin, some DJ decks (to make himself look embarrassingly old and scare away all young people).

Rubycat · 07/01/2019 20:51

If the Archers SW really DO read Mumsnet threads, they will make Kirsty draw a parking diagram for someone to explain the parking wars!!!

MargueritaPink · 07/01/2019 20:53

Why did Kirsty come back anyway?

MargueritaPink · 07/01/2019 21:00

Surplus tagines will be the least of Jenny’s problems if/when Kate rocks up - they can hardly store her in the barn

Kate will be furious. Who has a spare room?

muddyboots · 07/01/2019 21:09

Shame on you Kirsty. If my single best friend had had a secret snog with a fit karate teacher I'd be encouraging her to invite him over! I know Helen is vulnerable, but Kirsty could be more encouraging to Helen to find someone special.

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2019 21:17

Marguerita Kirsty came back to be the neighbour from hell for the Aldridges, especially envionmental despoiler Brian, of course.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 22:12

I expect Kirsty will get out of the rut she's in and find something more satisfying to do. As to her grumpiness, it's mostly in relation to Brian, isn't it? - as someone who genuinly cares about the environment, he's hardly going to be her favourite person is he?

Oops - may have just muttered "oh do fuck off Brian" at the radio
While I cant help being fond of Brian when he does things like this cheerful surprise party for Jenny, if that comment was when he came out with the 'feminist eco warrior dig', then I'd agree... was Kirsty feministing too much by pointing out she has a job and daring to tell him off or what?Confused

ChakiraChakra · 07/01/2019 22:34

Kirsty, Alice and Brian. Top 3 on my "I hate you" list currently Grin

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 08/01/2019 00:09

Drunk Alice is very much like regular Kate. Indiscreet, indignant and so self-centered. Ian will go spare.

stilllearnin · 08/01/2019 00:10

How long before Lily is back?

HatingTheBigShow · 08/01/2019 01:35

Going back a couple of days here but how does Lower Loxley suddenly have a shop? Is it a National Trust type gift shop or a good shop? I've been listening every day for a good ten years and have never heard of it before. And absolutely, Kirsty should have been encouraging Helen to go for it with Lee and have some fun. That was bizarre.

HatingTheBigShow · 08/01/2019 01:48

Argh, FOOD not 'good' shop.
Also, I live very near Capel Curig and Natasha is not from anywhere near here. Tom's tattoo is bordering on offensive - in what way can he lay claim to a deep, indescribable yearning for the land and spirit of Wales? The little prick.

Minimammoth · 08/01/2019 02:34

I am a bit behind, but commend Lily actress for expressing the unsaid. Longing to stay and almost pleading for an excuse not to go to Manchester, I wonder what life is really like for her up there.

QuaterMiss · 08/01/2019 03:36

Grin Possibly ... But yesterday's moaning from her rather suggested that she's a victim of too many editors - left over from someone else's plan and now about to be moved on. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for her to be in TA. Her return after the non-wedding was the most incomprehensible thing in the whole history of the world - and now she's a pointless lodger with an unlikely job that she hates, an apparently lukewarm relationship, watching the man who jilted her thrive in a new relationship. It's a complete mess of a story.

LillianGish · 08/01/2019 06:56

Absolutely spot on re Kirsty Quater.

Karting1967 · 08/01/2019 07:04

Actually LOLed at this!

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2019 08:12

Like life Quater

Hating Pat (Tom's Mum) is Welsh.

SaturdayNext · 08/01/2019 08:35

I couldn't understand why Kirsty was banging on so much about noise from next door. It's highly unlikely that JD and Brine's music is louder than the previous tenants' TV, it can't have been that late when Helen was round there, and a sedate party given by a couple of 70 year olds is hardly going to involve ear-splitting noise. If she'd had Tom as a neighbour she's probably have to listen to him and Natasha having loud sex all over the house.
