Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

Lillian is smart and wears two piece suits or blue jeans with a suit jacket and blouse a lot. She has the kind of hair you have set at the hairdressers weekly and it's dyed a kind of ash blonde. She wears pearls all the time.

Nah Lilian doesn't have her hair set, she'd feel like an old lady. I agree that she's ash blonde (the upkeep's so easy darling with the greys) but she has a graduated bob, and she absolutely canes her way through purple shampoo to keep it from going yellow at the front from nicotine.

And how long before David/Shula/Jill twig that Lizzie isn’t quite back to normal yet?
A long time. Lily primed David. David called Lizzie. Lizzie said "I'm fine". David took her at her word and went back to worrying about farm matters rather than people.
And as for supposed über-mum Jill... Don't get me started.Hmm

lottiegarbanzo · 07/01/2019 11:13

David can be quite dense about people, can't he. Kenton is much more astute but, preoccupied. Where's Shula though? She seems to have disappeared from Lizzie's realm.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 07/01/2019 11:27

Happy new year everyone, just caught up with the new year episodes. I think Lily will defer her year and get and Russ will be back at LL when they run out of money and Russ realises he can live nicely off A deteriorating Lizzie. He will get his controlling feet well under the table over the next 3 months setting up a fantastic showdown with the returning much more hard nosed Freddie.

Is Joe going to pass away in the downstairs loo and not be found for hours because it is his domain and he's not to be disturbed? I did have a mental picture of him being like the Grandfather in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang heading off to the downstairs loo for an adventure.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/01/2019 11:48

The inheritance aspect of LL is interesting too. Lily becoming established as a manager of the business, while all along, it is Freddie's inheritance.

Likewise Home Farm with Ruaridh considering his options. I've quite enjoyed that storyline - and his awakening to the notion of farming, based on the perfect paradigm of the Archer family!

grumiosmum · 07/01/2019 12:29

I have got a 4-temperature kettle which I've had for quite a long time - at least 4/5 years probably.

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 12:45

I agree about the Sainsbury's kettle.

I'd rather not think about Joe and his khazi.
I imagine Lillian as a mid blonde with a shortish hairstyle a bit like Andrea Ledson's. I picture her as a knitted/boucle jacket and jeans type.
Shula is mousey blonde/grey and a bit sloaney in style - patterned jumper and jods.
Ruth is a slim jeans (tucked into wellies) and jumper type and usually in a boilersuit.

NotdeadyetBOING · 07/01/2019 13:24

I agree that Johnny is drop dead gorgeous. His hotness is only accentuated by his modest character - gloriously free of brashness and arrogance. #overinfested

ahwellsaidthesoul · 07/01/2019 13:43

How much did Kenton borrow off David please? I'm guessing it was for refurbishing The Bull?

MadameButterface · 07/01/2019 13:47

I always picture Shula as looking like what Lady Di Queen of Are Hearts would have looked like had she lived.

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 13:51

Only shorter and not as slender. Still with the Lady Di haircut.
I don't see Johnneh as ddg, but young, fit and healthy and with a smashing personality. God knows where he got that from - must have rubbed off from Eamonn.

buckingfrolicks · 07/01/2019 14:20

Kenton calls David Dave. Never noticed before

David never did tell Kenton about Lily going.

Brian's best offer to placate Jennifer re their being dropped by posh friends is Pasty the cleaner. I happen to love my cleaner but I don't think Brian quite understands the blow to Jennifer's self image of replacing posh pals with cleaner chum. And I'm not sure Jennifer will enjoy hosting a party in their cramped new gaff. With only one tagine how will she cope?

buckingfrolicks · 07/01/2019 14:21

Mike I fear Ruth may go as far as tucking her jumper into her jeans frankly.

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 14:57

She probably does.
I really can't believe that the Aldridges have come to this.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/01/2019 15:22

With only one tagine how will she cope?

She has no tagines at the new place! Imagine that if you can!

WoodenCat · 07/01/2019 15:30

That was an awful lot of chat about tagines. Would everyone including Brian and David and Jill really get so involved in saving Jenny from having to store one more item in the barn?

As for people’s style, I’ll never see Shula in anything other than her cream cardigan(s) and her staying in / going out jeans.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 16:16

I'm sure Shula also spends a lot of time in jodhpurs, and I think one of those diamond-quilted jackets.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 16:26

Plus of course hi-vis stuff for riding on roads - possibly even this sort of thing:
equisafety.com/collections/polite

She can't prevent drivers behaving dangerously near horses but for good reason she does everything possible.

SusanWalker · 07/01/2019 16:32

Shula definitely had a cream diamond patterned aran jumper to wear with her jodhpurs.

I suspect David and Ruth have matching chunky jumpers knitted by Jill. When Jill dies they will die of hypothermia and starvation. Although I think Jill has foreseen this and is training up Ben to take over the cooking.

LillianGish · 07/01/2019 18:19

Surplus tagines will be the least of Jenny’s problems if/when Kate rocks up - they can hardly store her in the barn. This will be the most interesting effect of the down-sizing so I hope we witness it soon. I imagined Jenny would be relishing a small space and how much less work it involves and that she would have it in tip-top shape and be surprising herself by how much easier life is in a small house. She has always struck me as quite versatile - I thought she would be making a virtue of necessity.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 18:21

I thought Kate had one of the Home Farm cottages?

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 18:22

She lets it for income.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 18:24

Is that just seasonal though?

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 18:36

I would have thought so but she managed to make a go of Spiritual Home all year round. Bit puzzling really.

Abra1de · 07/01/2019 18:40

Surplus tagines will be the least of Jenny’s problems if/when Kate rocks up - they can hardly store her in the barn

It’s a thought, though!
