Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

I'm still so bored with Lizzie and Lily.

EBearhug · 06/01/2019 23:02

Have I missed something re Helen and Lee?

Yes, you need to listen to Friday's episode.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 00:20

Who the heck has 2 tagines? And are they really such a commonplace item that nearly everyone else would already have at least one?Confused I don't have one; I think I've only ever eaten a tagine made in a tagine once, and as far as I could tell the same effect could have been achieved in a casserole dish.

birdsdestiny · 07/01/2019 00:31

I have never had one either. Jenny is a better cook than me though. She has had a whole lifetime of cooking and catering, and is bound to have built up a collection of equipment.

SusanWalker · 07/01/2019 00:44

Johnny is drop dead gorgeous.

Phoebe I always imagine as really pretty and millennial looking if that makes sense with dark hair.

I always think of Freddie and Lily as blonde with that upper class kind of polish.

Pip thinks she's better looking than she is.

Kate is more sexy than pretty but in a hippyish kind of way.

Alistair is a silver fox.

Lillian is smart and wears two piece suits or blue jeans with a suit jacket and blouse a lot. She has the kind of hair you have set at the hairdressers weekly and it's dyed a kind of ash blonde. She wears pearls all the time.

Tom is blond/brown with floppy hair and starting to get a very slight middle aged spread.

Brian is tall and wears tweed jackets a lot.

David has curly hair and wears chunky knitted jumpers knitted by his mum.

Shula has short grey hair and wears shirts with the collar turned up like an eighties sloane.

Except when she's wearing jodhpurs etc. I'm not sure she'd have 'set' hair either, doesn't sound like it would be compatible with a riding hat, and I can't imagine her having the patience to sit under a dryer.

^

Who the heck brings two tagines to a temporary & significantly downsized kitchen Errol. I appreciate she used to mass catering. It just how much tagine did she plan on making and for whom?

AlecOrAlonzo · 07/01/2019 07:34

In fairness I think she said she had one in storage and the one she brought with her was to brighten the place up.

glamorousgrandmother · 07/01/2019 07:46

I have THREE tagines! One I bought in Morocco and two smaller ones were gifts I haven't used them for years because a casserole dish or pan is more convenient on a normal cooker but they look nice on display.

birdsdestiny · 07/01/2019 07:49

Oh crikey I was just about to say who uses a tagine to brighten up the place but obviously my housekeeping is below parSmile

pattyhoo · 07/01/2019 07:50

Elizabeth really is going downhill Confused how long till Freddie gets out? 2 months?

grumiosmum · 07/01/2019 08:06

I've never owned a tagine, and I'm quite an ambitious
cook.

Perhaps Jenny should give it to Russ? He strikes me as the sort of person who'd quite like one, but can't afford such frippery.

Cromercrab · 07/01/2019 08:23

I thought Russ did have a tagine - in fact, I thought the continuity announcer was referring to him. But agree with pp that Jenny, catering for hordes over the years, could easily turn out at least two tagines' worth of, er, tagine.

I don't know how realistic the dropping of the Aldridges by the county set is - are people really that shallow just because they have a bit of money? - but it is a great extra dimension to the storyline. Is Brian's party going to be a complete horror? (will there be a salmon...?)

BitOutOfPractice · 07/01/2019 08:30

Wasn't it a fish kettle that russ wanted?

SaturdayNext · 07/01/2019 08:35

Looking back at past threads, Freddie seems to have been sentenced around 28th September, so he has almost three months left to do.

Bittermints · 07/01/2019 08:36

I only remember that he wanted an electric kettle that could heat water to one of three different temperature settings. I was amazed, having never heard of such a thing before. We have £5 Argos kettles as in our experience no electric kettle nowadays lasts for more than a couple of years so why spend more?

.....three months if he gets full remission. Longer if he doesn‘t.

But let‘s not forget he is a privileged boy who took a conscious decision to deal class A drugs and carried on even when his cousin almost died.

Fink · 07/01/2019 09:39

Absolutely spot on. We had a 4-temperature kettle once (not my purchase); it didn't last any longer than any of the others. After one more expensive one, we've gone back to the basic models. My Sainsbury's £10 kettle I use at work is still going strong after 7 years, it's outlived at least 4 at home in the same time period.

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2019 09:49

ref. Helen and Lee (whispers ) if you'd blinked you'd have missed it.

The SW's \producers must read this thread, it was very tasteful, quiet kissing. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 07/01/2019 09:57

Doesn't everyone have a spare old fashioned style one (not jug shaped, not very quick boiling but does have auto off) which lives in the back of a top cupboard and works reliably every time a newer model breaks? I can't remember how old ours is - the design isn't one I'd have ever chosen so must have been DH's before we were married (in 1986).

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2019 10:19

Yes Errol But ours isn't electric (they use up too much electricity and tend to short the supply here). It's a lovely bright red solid, on the hob, kettle by Le Creuset and worth every penny!

gruber · 07/01/2019 10:30

Delurking to contribute to kitchen items! Have to say I got rid of the one tagine I owned (was an unasked for wedding gift from random relative) as it didn’t fit in our kitchen cupboards (3 bed terrace, small kitchen). Our food mixer lives out on the side (again, cupboard space, but it’s so useful I need it- yet too heavy to lift in/out of cupboard)
And, finally, kettle- I keep a spare whistling kettle on top of the cupboards, for when we have power cuts.
I do realise I may be overinfested...

gruber · 07/01/2019 10:31

How long will Lily last before she feels guilty? And how long before David/Shula/Jill twig that Lizzie isn’t quite back to normal yet?

lottiegarbanzo · 07/01/2019 10:40

Russ has definitely mentioned a tagine, when they were equipping the flat. I can't quite remember if it was that he had one and thought it was a 'must bring' to the new flat. Might have been that he wanted one. He should make friends with Jenny. They can form a new Ambridge artistic set, of two.

ppeatfruit · 07/01/2019 10:42

Yes gruber ours 'whistles' too Grin Also how long will it be before Lewis comes out of the cereal cupboard to check on Lizzie?
