Never let it be said that The Archers plays it safe. Where else on radio or TV would you get a storyline about a boar whose sexual appetite is on the wane? Rex is, of course, very worried about Basil's lack of mojo, especially when his latest initiative fails. The mind boggles...
Over at Berrow, Hannah & Neil's continued clashing leads to a shocking incident - and you can expect the blame game to follow as Justin goes on the warpath.
And Jennifer's fears about Lexi's relationship with her grandchild fester. Seeing how worried she is, Brian decides to do something about it. But his tactics cause hurt & outrage, with Jennifer left in the firing line thanks to her husband's misguided actions.

And this one puzzles me, because the date I have been given is wrong and I don't usually get given spoilers from the weekend Mail until Saturday, but the content seems to fit:

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Sep 22-27
A pig with a libido shortfall is just one of the problems besetting the farming folk. Ian is worrying about his place in the world (well, you would if you lived in Ambridge, wouldn’t you?), Jennifer is concerned about Lexi’s relationship with her grandchild, and all those bidding for the abattoir are feeling the strain as the moment when the winner is announced approaches.
And then, there’s the pressing matter of cider time at Grange Farm - surely, that’s not going to go without a hitch?
And, on the subject of accidents, will Hannah and Neil’s squabbles lead to something shocking? And who will end up getting the blame?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/09/2019 13:51

Thanks, both.

Curtains for Joe at last, then. Sad

Looks like Brian is about to have a visit from the personality transplant fairy too. Are they really going to make him tell Lexi to sling her hook and stop bothering Adam and Ian? I hope not. Angry

Tonnerre · 26/09/2019 14:46

I do hope Neil is going to come out on top in any dispute with Hannah, I'm tired of her trying to push him out.

Motoko · 26/09/2019 15:18

Oh, me too Tonnerre, she's a hateful person.

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2019 17:00

Poor Joe. I wondered where he'd got to.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/09/2019 11:08

Suspect Brine is going to try to pay Lexi off in some way.

QuaterMiss · 28/09/2019 11:50

Hope he doesn’t do anything that jeopardises the slow moving legal administrative process ... Shock

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/09/2019 13:58

Now I am confused. I've been given

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Sep 29 - Oct 04
Brian sets out to allay Jennifer’s fears about her grandchild, but his suggested solution just ends up making matters much, much worse. And he’s not the only one stirring up trouble (this is Ambridge after all …) - Justin’s plan to get Lilian to invest backfires rather badly,
Neil and Hannah’s clashes at Berrow lead to an accident, and an attempt to give Basil the boar his mojo back turns out to be a damp squib.
At least, things are calming down at Brookfield as a truce is called. Will it last?

and it's not the same as the one I was given half-way through the week, but it does seem to apply to next week just as that one did.

My brain hurts...

Madcats · 28/09/2019 14:24

Asking I suppose it means that the intern emailed out the synopsis for the 'old' storyline before it had to be written without Joe in it?

I think I read somewhere that they are recorded in blocks about 6 months in advance over 4 days, so the timing would probably be about right?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/09/2019 14:59

I only have the information Vanessa Whitburn put at the front of the annual printed Who's Who, but who knows what may have changed since she left.

What she said there was
"The detailed planning is done at monthly script meetings about two months ahead of transmission. Each writer produces a week's worth of scripts in a remarkable 13 days."

"Actors receive their scripts a few days before recording, which takes place every four weeks in [the Mailbox]. Twenty-four episodes are recorded ... in six days, two hours of studio time per episode."

(That's partly précis because we don't need the stuff about where the Mailbox is or how long an episode lasts.)

Radio Times Ambridge Diary Oct 6-11
We’ve known it would be coming, but this week we bid farewell to Joe Grundy following actor Ted Kelsey’s death in April. The goodbye comes following fraught efforts to produce the Grundys’ famous cider, which are initially thrown into jeopardy thanks to a broken piece of equipment. Prepare for poignant scenes as the family unites after a difficult few months.
Over at Lower Loxley, meanwhile, Elizabeth approaches Lynda with a suggestion for an alternative Christmas show, but is left stunned by the response.
Lilian faces the consequences of Justin’s actions over the abattoir.
And Ian becomes overprotective of Xander when Kate offers to babysit for the afternoon - but is he right to be concerned?

(Of course he is: this is Kate.)

MikeUniformMike · 03/10/2019 18:38

Thanks Asking

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/10/2019 19:08

Thanks, Asking!

Thanks Asking

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2019 13:59

And

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Oct 6-11
The Autumn leaves drift down, ripe apples fall and the Grundys prepare to make their famous cider. It’s usually a happy time for the troubled family, but a sad event means that there will some salt tears in this year’s batch.
As the Grundys bid a poignant goodbye, Emma proffers an olive branch when she pays her respects.
Ian and Adam have a very different dilemma when Kate offers to babysit. Best of luck with that one.
The Fairbrothers, who, as a family are no slouches when it comes to courting, find themselves out of their depth when they discover that Rex’s ageing boar can’t cut the mustard.
As the Fairbrother brothers seek a solution, Elizabeth puts forward a Christmas scheme to Lynda, and is stunned by La Snell’s response.

(It is not Rex's boar. It is Neil's boar. Rex is Neil's paid employee; he does not own the pigs.)

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2019 11:03

Asking Well Rex does look after the piggies, and being conscientious he would no doubt feel proprietorial about them.

I came on here to give the RT precis about Poor Joe who finally KTB this week, I see many got here before me. I don't really think it classifies as a spoiler when it's been printed in the RT but there you are Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/10/2019 11:30

Thanks again, Asking. Ppeat, yes, spoilers are anything not yet broadcast. We've had people objecting to spoilers in the thread title when a new thread got started midweek and omnibus listeners found out about something from the thread title they hadn't heard yet. I think that was Nic's death. So always better to err on the side of caution!

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2019 11:37

OK thanks Gasp Grin

DadDadDad · 08/10/2019 11:37

I think on the main TA thread, 'spoilers' is just shorthand for storyline trailers being mentioned on the thread before the episode airs.

I'm fairly relaxed about spoilers - and you can't avoid them entirely given that the CA will sometimes make a comment at the end of an episode: "And tomorrow, there's a surprise visit from Jennifer..." - well, yes, it's going to be less of a surprise now you've told us in advance isn't it? Hmm

Grin
ppeatfruit · 08/10/2019 11:44

Oh that's interesting, so the RT is a SPOILER publication Ummmmm !!

DadDadDad · 08/10/2019 11:59

To those who wish to keep themselves pure on the main thread, yes!

TherapistInATabard · 08/10/2019 13:47

It's kind of perfect that they waited until cider-making time to shuffle Joe off isn't it?

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2019 14:42

Only they can't actually MAKE cider Sad I took the piss, but it's quite clever really Sad (i must admit I didn't think I would be calling the SWs clever!)
