Oh gosh! I really can't see Ed as a receptionist at all, never mind working with Lynda. I hope that's not what's going to happen.

I like the idea of Kate being humiliated in theory, but may find it excruciating in practice.

Thanks, Asking!

Isatis · 02/08/2019 07:42

"Wild card names" in the plural - could it be Emma also? I guess she has a little more time available if she's not cleaning regularly for Peggy, and maybe the Reception job pays better than the chicken factory. Or she could do Reception whilst Ed takes over the chicken factory job.

Madcats · 02/08/2019 11:11

Surely this hasn't been planned so that Philip and Kirsty move into to their shiny new house on the day that Ed and Emma were to have completed?

I am glad to see that Tracey Horrobin is still on the cast list - she's the only one to add any cheer to 7pm.

No mention of Lexi again - the one with the illegal (in Bulgaria) surrogacy arrangement. Won't she need to come back to Britain to have the baby?

MollyButton · 02/08/2019 13:39

Emma would be quite good as a junior receptionist, and might be able to keep to more regular hours.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/08/2019 21:48

My friend strikes again:

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Aug 4-9
Egg whites are whipped to a froth as contestants rise to the soufflé challenge.
You would think the annual Flower and Produce Show blood bath would leave villagers little appetite for feuding, but you’d be very wrong. While eggs are separated, in a bid for soufflé glory, the winner of the contentious art project is announced, and Archer is set against Archer as pitches are perfected for Peggy’s Pet Project.
Ben and Ruairi’s bid to make this year’s Summer Fête the best yet goes horribly wrong, while the terrible events of last week put the Grundys well ahead as Ambridge’s Unluckiest Family.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/08/2019 15:17

Thanks, Asking!

TherapistInATabard · 04/08/2019 15:39

I was thinking that Molly and surely Kirsty’s job at Grey Gables will be up for grabs!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/08/2019 15:45

Good thinking, Therapist - Emma would be a good spa manager. By Kirsty's account it's chiefly about folding towels and ordering stock, all of which Emma should be able to do standing on her head.

Isatis · 05/08/2019 01:23

Wasn't Kirsty planning to carry on working and fit the wildlife thing around that?

TherapistInATabard · 05/08/2019 12:54

Ah yes is the Wildlife Trust job just part time?

QuaterMiss · 05/08/2019 13:19

No, I think it’s full time. Kirsty voiced her concerns about taking a pay cut to Philip - citing that as a reason for not applying for the position. And he reassured her that her own job satisfaction should, and could, be her primary consideration.

Isatis · 05/08/2019 13:51

I could have sworn I heard Kirsty say something about having to stay at Grey Gables to supplement her income. Was I dreaming?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/08/2019 13:51

The Wildlife Trust job is part-time. There was talk of trying to compress her hours or something at GG so she would still be bringing in a full-time wage, but overall even if she goes on working pt at GG it would be a pay cut because the WT job is not well paid. Philip said not to worry about that as he could cover the mortgage and had no problem paying more than half. He wanted her to have a job that she really enjoyed at least part of the time. Unusually for this board, I like Philip.

QuaterMiss · 05/08/2019 14:06

Thanks Isatis. Glad to see there’ll be more of Brian.

Clearly I wasn’t listening properly on the subject of Kirsty’s new job! (But still, did we not talk about who might replace her at GG? Confused )

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/08/2019 14:13

It's all a haze for me, QuaterMiss! I don't think we've heard what Kirsty is going to do about the job.

TherapistInATabard · 05/08/2019 16:30

Unusually for this board, I like Philip.

Same here, but that's more because there's nothing to dislike. He's really quite boring!

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2019 07:06

He seems just an ordinary chap. Pleasant.

QuaterMiss · 06/08/2019 10:20

an ordinary chap. Pleasant.

Sure, but what’s his role? There are one or two other ordinary, pleasant chaps; they’re there to serve a purpose. Robert exists to show us a different side of Lynda, to prevent her from seeming monstrous. I’m not sure he’s had any significant story of his own (beyond losing / having lost his well paid job when they first arrived - thus catapulting Lynda into the GG job). Rex is ‘pleasant’ (if not quite anyone’s definition of ‘ordinary’ as a middle class, ex rugby professional, now inexplicably working two jobs in a random village) - his entire purpose right now is to make his brother look both ‘bad’ and lucky to us.

Someone on the main thread objected to the speculation about Philip’s likely early demise - it’s only because he seems to have been invented entirely to provide Kirsty with a stake in property in Ambridge. Meaning she has a solid reason to stay in the story, which she really didn’t before. His boringness suggests he isn’t going to have any major s/l of his own. (But then, I thought rather the same of Rob at first ... Grin )

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2019 17:08

He was someone for Shula to confide in when splitting from Alastair.
Then as a single man in Ambridge was paired off with Kirsty.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary10 - 16 August 2019
Jim is finally taking steps to move on with his life by joining Lilian's quiz team. But just as Alistair is breathing a sigh of relief, along comes Jazzer, whose shock admission threatens to send Jim straight back to square one.
Shula is nervous as she faces her first meeting with the Diocesan Director of Ordinands. No surprise there really; expect the appointment to get off to an immediate bad start and for Shula to make a valiant attempt to swing things in her favour.
Will, meanwhile, continues to blame himself for recent events at Grange Farm, only to confront an even bigger drama when one of the Grundys faces a dash to hospital. What will the diagnosis be?

Looks like Joe being rushed to hospital, and Will getting flashbacks to Nic's death there, to me.

MikeUniformMike · 08/08/2019 18:15

Thanks Asking.
Poor Joe.

Motoko · 08/08/2019 22:35

Thanks Asking.

Who's Ray Hepburn? Could he be from Will's past?

Sounds like Jazzer's going to tell Jim about going to Harrison. After tonight's episode, with Harrison telling Jazzer to try to persuade the victim to come forward and speak to the police, he'll speak to Jim.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2019 08:23

He'll be the bishop.

MollyButton · 09/08/2019 14:32

Ray Hepburn will not be the Bishop but the Diocesan Director of Ordinands. I expect her to be told it will be a long process.

But I also expect the SW to follow a process similar to that described here
