Thanks to witchmountain for the last thread and to dadx3 for Godfathering them! Also to any other posters whose ideas I have borrowed for the title.

Morning ppeatfruit. Just saying hello and hope you and Mum have a good day.

I spent quite a few years as sole carer for my Dad (I am so glad I did) and I know how impossible it can feel sometimes.

Kind thoughts, fellow ailurophile! Smile

Better go - time for Popmaster.....!

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2018 10:38

Thanks for the kind thoughts Baxter I'm not the sole carer, she doesn't need or want one, well I think she could do with one! It's something my siblings and I are going to discuss after Xmas Dsis and bro. live much closer, I live in Fr. for a lot of the time! Hence I'm on line quite a bit, there is good broadband here!!!

I also listen to Ken Bruce sometimes but some of the music wears me down! Radio 4 extra is good.

TheEfficientBaxter · 15/11/2018 10:52

Same here re the music! I only tune across to R2 for Popmaster - nothing else.
Radio 4 all day for me!

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2018 11:03

Grin If you like sweet (not too sweet!) MOR classics without ads check out Radio Swizzera 128 kbps MP3 .

R4 gets me down sometimes too, all that hot air Hmm I like it on Sunday mornings and midday without the news! I'm a bit of a lightweight!

That's why BBC podcasts are great. I stash them up for times when the schedule is rubbish (I'm looking at you, Any Questions and Any Answers, taking up a whole 90 minutes of perfect weekend listening time). R4, 4extra, podcasts ... if I get really desperate then the World Service.

InkySplatter · 15/11/2018 11:27

I’m surprised David hasn’t told Linda to get out of the barn already.

I believe the phrase is "get off my land" in agricultural circles

Great work on the thread Ppear. Happy to see my cereal cupboard comment shoe horned in.

I'm just off to change my name several times and demand more ad hoc posting stats from DDD Grin

InkySplatter · 15/11/2018 11:31

I also think Christine was written as sounding manipulative but her concerns are totally understandable. My mum was hit by a cyclist and her hip smashed and it's a real confidence knocker. It's taken her years to get it back and I wouldn't say she ever has entirely.

My sympathy runs out a bit with C as I think Justin should be paying for the Laurels - some financial karma for affordable housing ruse. She shouldn't let her shame cost her friend so dearly, especially now clearly can't envision returning home.

Bekabeech · 15/11/2018 11:33

BOOP for last night, I was actually laughing in the car this morning!

Littlest DD and I are confused as to why we picked up a Spanish station on the way to school (Surrey), but it was interesting to listen to. I like radio 4 but prefer podcasts usually, and can't stand "Just a Minute" or "I'm sorry I haven't a clue". In both cases having heard them since childhood now makes me feel nauseous hearing their theme tunes, unlike the Archers.

5000FingersofDrT · 15/11/2018 12:24

Remind me why they can't have the rehearsals at Ambridge Hall, if DemonPanto Lynda wants so badly to boss them all around within an inch of their lives as she does every goddam year ?

On the subject of dire R4 programmes - I accidentally heard the start of a new series of 'Quote, Unquote'. Shoot me now.

TheEfficientBaxter · 15/11/2018 13:01

I think Lynda wants rustic authenticity, doesn't she?

So that her cast can get into character properly.

BTW, I agree with ppeatfruit about Lynda's odd reaction to the rat. That just didn't sound right at all to me Hmm

For rural (and not-so-rural) areas, rats are part and parcel of life.

TheEfficientBaxter · 15/11/2018 13:06

Interesting, Beka! Did the station name come up on the screen? Were you on FM or DAB?

< fascinated now >

EBearhug · 15/11/2018 13:10

Yes, I can't believe she's never had to think about pest control round the llama stable or anything.

ppeatfruit · 15/11/2018 13:30

Yes thanks fink I do use Listen Again, are they podcasts ? You forget that I'm not a tecchie!

Inky Sorry I didn't name check you in the title, I was a bit panicked when I realised that I didn't know how to 'activate the words' Grin in the last thread.
IMO Ruth has probably got the guts to say "get off my land" to Lynda, she was already telling her off about disliking a bit of bird poo.

chemenger · 15/11/2018 14:07

I remember once being in a barn after being flooded out of Guide camp when someone announced they had just seen a big hamster with a long tail. We regularly see rats on the path to our building here in Boston, it’s beside a building site. At home in the U.K. I once had one climb a tree to get to a bird feeder, at first I thought it was a squirrel with a very mangy tail. They’re everywhere, I think Lynda was overreacting, it would be very unusual to have a farm without rats.

"Robert's much more flexible these days" Blush Confused

Tom's laughter was really nice and infectious, wasn't it? Made me chuckle too!

Fink · 15/11/2018 14:25

I've been listening to the repeat just to make sure, I can't believe Tom would use the term 'LGBT dating site'. I get the Beeb want to use proper terms, but surely Tom would either say 'gay dating' or use a brand name.

ppeatfruit similar. Listen again only stays available for a limited amount of time after the programme is broadcast (although it seems to be messed up at the moment with the switchover to BBC Sounds from the iplayer app, at least on my phone) whereas podcasts are downloaded onto your computer/phone/whatever device and then you have them forever after, until you decide to delete them.

Also, you can set podcasts up so that they automatically send you the whole series rather than having to go looking for each episode.

I'm not an expert though.

TheEfficientBaxter · 15/11/2018 14:41

Yes, Fink, they were being a bit overly careful there, weren't they?

Not sure what well-known dating websites there are for gay women. I know all about Grindr, but that's for gay men only.

Fink · 15/11/2018 15:11

Not that I'm an expert on this either (If TA ever discusses my niche area of humanities research, otoh, I'll be right in there!), but I believe Grindr is now open to women as well. There's also Findhrr specifically for women, but that's probably beyond Tom's field of expertise. I think a term like 'gay dating site' would have sounded more natural whilst keeping it generic.

Next topic of conversation: how woke is Tom? Envy (sick, not envy!)

TheEfficientBaxter · 15/11/2018 16:24

Just had to google 'woke' Confused

Get you, down with the kids Grin

(You did mean to type woke, didn't you? Or is it an autocorrect fail?)

buckingfrolicks · 15/11/2018 16:41

They may only have been three posts but I'm sure they were perfectly formed.

Christine - is it to show how fabulous the Archer genes are, that Peggy is so robust and bean-full while C descends to second childhood? Whatever it is, that particular story line can't end quickly enough for me.

Where's Ed?

MrsGrindah · 15/11/2018 18:23

Anyone else completely bored with the inevitable Christmas panto storyline? Will it be a disaster...?.! Er no...a triumph. Every year.

choccyp1g · 15/11/2018 18:31

Well no, BuckingFrolicks because Christine is a born Archer, whereas Peggy married Chris' bother Jack Archer.

choccyp1g · 15/11/2018 18:35

I've been thinking that Chris was being a bit pathetic about the hip, (Having had two replacements myself and seen people in their 90s being chivvied up and down stairs on crutches 2 days after the op!)

But, an emergency operation after a fall, that makes your mobility WORSE is very different from a planned replacement when you can suddenly walk on crutches after being unable to move or even sit still without constant pain.

Peggy seems to have a bottomless well of money. But at £1000 odd a week it has to dry up eventually.

Cromercrab · 15/11/2018 19:21

How did Peggy get all this money? I thought she ran the pub, (with an alcoholic first husband) and then her second husband, who did have oodles, left most of his estate to his daughter Hazel. I don't know where, in that (admittedly very uninformed) biography she gets to be the moneybags she plainly is. Can more knowledgeable folk shed any light?

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2018 19:34

The 🔮 is feeling rather smug now
