Archers Thanks to LilG for the title, and DDD for starting the last thread and the tradition of the thread starter nominating the next thread starter Grin

Lurkers are always welcome to unlurk and join in, including asking questions of the many very knowledgeable posters with a long Archers-listening history.

Don't post spoilers based on forthcoming plot synopses that you've read, there's another thread for that (and we'd love to see you over there). Once an episode has aired then it's fair game. Archers

The karate teacher? No. I think he's nice. He's being set up as a love interest for Helen. Helen had preconceptions about what a karate instructor would be like and he isn't like that. Helen isn't going to be interested in anyone macho.

QuaterMiss · 01/11/2018 19:45

And do we think David is heading towards early onset Alzheimer's?

Thus precipitating early onset division-of-Brookfield wars?

Bring it on.

Miscible · 01/11/2018 20:06

I reckon that encounter was one-nil to Josh.

witchmountain · 01/11/2018 20:28

AIBU to think that Lee is a bit wet?

Yes! Why?!

OP posts:
CathKidneyston · 01/11/2018 20:36

I didn’t like the way Lee lectured Henry....and Helen is so thankful that a man is talking some sense into him.But let’s face it they are both so wet they don’t be perfect for each other. A good story line would be for Helen to fancy him only to find out that he’s shagging Emma

CathKidneyston · 01/11/2018 20:37

Sorry, can one say shaggIng on this thread?!

TheEfficientBaxter · 01/11/2018 20:42

Yes, Lass, your summing up of Pip is spot on. Couldn't have put it better myself.

By the way, Dint, I met a huge tabby tomcat today called Mr Pandicles. I thought of you straightaway! He was given that name because of his love of pandiculation - big, long-drawn-out front legs then back legs stretches, usually accompanied by a huge yawn. And he actually did one while I was there. Beautiful! 😺

TheEfficientBaxter · 01/11/2018 20:47

CathKidneyston. Yes, you can say shagging on here.

Jazzer actually said it on air last week, when he found out about Tom's FWB arrangement with the detestable Hannah.

CathKidneyston · 01/11/2018 20:49

Oh good. Would hate to be banished to the cereal cupboard now Bens escaped!

LillianGish · 01/11/2018 21:28

Very behind with both listening and the thread, but completely agree with this: I rather like the fact that the pronunciation of Ruairi's name remains a mystery. It adds to his otherness and ambiguous outsider status. I think of Ruairi as being the Home Farm equivalent of Johnny - both represent a spanner in the inheritance of both farms. Johnny's accent reminds us that he is the outsider while Ruairi's name performs the same function - his Irish accent long gone.

DeusEx · 01/11/2018 22:09

Oooooh I just can’t stand Pip. What a witch.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/11/2018 22:33

@ TheEfficientBaxter Thanks for that lovely pen-portrait!

DoctorTwo · 01/11/2018 22:38

I hope Josh is going to be making the many gallons of tea the cows are going to need so they can dip their biscuits. (not a euphemism)

TheEfficientBaxter · 01/11/2018 22:56

You are more than welcome, MereDint. Glad you liked it!

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 00:24

Did anyone else hear a comedy/drama that was on 4xtra onTuesday? It was about a farmer who discovers he is the main character in a long-running radio serial but is completely unaware of it, and that his whole life, and everyone around him is totally fictitious.

It was obviously inspired by The Archers, but it got me thinking (which isn't always a good thing!)

What if everyone in Ambridge is actually real? Just living their lives, completely oblivious of us lot eavesdropping every day.

Just a thought.....HmmShock

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/11/2018 00:44

Ooh thanks, just listening now.

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 01:14

Hope you aren't disappointed, Lass. I didn't actually think it was a very good play!

But lovely Adam Gillen was in it, so I stuck with it bravely until the endGrin

echt · 02/11/2018 07:05

Do you have a link for that, TEB?

QuaterMiss · 02/11/2018 07:08

What if everyone in Ambridge is actually real? Just living their lives, completely oblivious of us lot eavesdropping every day.

Took you a while but you got there in the end ...

Have entirely forgotten the details but - that thing Brookfield is lending LL for their festivities; supposed to reach something high; crucial for success of venture; no-one's checked it. It's not going to be tall enough is it?

(And it's no way to run a business either - last minute loan of important equipment from your brother. Should all have been sorted out months ago. I'm not enjoying seeing LL lurching from crisis to crisis - too much like real life. Hmm )

birdsdestiny · 02/11/2018 07:26

It might not reach or alternatively David may kill someone again.

R4 · 02/11/2018 07:37

Pip is evil and has a closed mind where Josh is concerned but Josh is no saint either. They had a meeting where they discussed how perilous farm finances are. Josh then rushes off to sort a deal to save the day.
Does he have authority to make these decisions, to spend scarce money?
Why couldn't he discuss it with others in the meeting?
Why couldn't he phone someone just before he closed the deal?
Does he wear his pants outside his trousers and think he's some sort of superhero swooping in to save the day?

It was all about doing the deal, being Mr Amazing instead of being a collaborative partner. He is still very immature.

QuaterMiss · 02/11/2018 07:38

Oh god - yes. There have been things going wrong with machinery for a while, haven't there? And his poor brain gone. No-one will check that it's safe ...

Sad
QuaterMiss · 02/11/2018 07:39

(Not about Josh, obvs ...)

birdsdestiny · 02/11/2018 07:44

Ooh massacre at LL on Halloween, can't imagine who we would nominate for that fate.
