Archers Thanks to LilG for the title, and DDD for starting the last thread and the tradition of the thread starter nominating the next thread starter Grin

Lurkers are always welcome to unlurk and join in, including asking questions of the many very knowledgeable posters with a long Archers-listening history.

Don't post spoilers based on forthcoming plot synopses that you've read, there's another thread for that (and we'd love to see you over there). Once an episode has aired then it's fair game. Archers

or alternatively David may kill someone again. Glad you said that. I've never forgiven him.

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 08:15

Echt. The play was called The Wainwrights. And was written oddly enough by Tom Wainwright.

If you look at the 4xtra schedule page for 30/10/2018, you will find all the details there. Hope that helps.

SusanWalker · 02/11/2018 08:15

I think the Helen/Lee thing will be long and drawn out. She isn't ready for it and will not want another man in Henry's life who could either hurt or abandon him. She will be thinking it's better to stay alone than risk hurting her children again.

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 09:01

IMO it is truly amazing that poor Josh hasn't got serious self-esteem issues.

If he's been treated like that all his life by his family - David and Pip in particular - he must be a very resilient young man.

If I had endured the relentless put-downs, and had to compete with Perfect Princess Pip, I would have drowned myself in the slurry pit years ago!

Cromercrab · 02/11/2018 09:41

Perhaps Josh has taken on board the lesson that all creaking bureaucracies, where the senior team is neither capable of leadership nor giving others their head to come up with solutions, teach its workers: it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. He left the meeting having contributed his ideas, tried to help others to get to a solution and then went off to do something more productive because, "We're just going round in circles here.' How often have I wished to be able to leave meetings like that!

This. Any ideas Josh comes up with are rubbished by Goldenpips. Any opinion expressed by Goldenpips is auto-supported by the Dopeys. Josh has learned that the only way to get any input at all is to just act and ask forgiveness as his presence is largely redundant except when they want him to cover Pip's work (would love to know if he gets extra for covering her work as well as his own on the farm).

David/Ruth/Pip routinely make decisions which affect Josh without discussion with him, why should he not do the same?

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 09:54

You know, thinking about it this morning, Pip sounded slightly unhinged last night.

All that rapid-fire vitriol towards Josh just wasn't normal. It made me feel really uncomfortable listening to it.

I can't help wondering if she hasn't been fermenting some very deep-seated resentment of Josh ever since he was born, which is now coming to the boil. And possibly a hideously gruesome Christmas storyline Shock

Thoughts, anyone?

Theyprobablywill · 02/11/2018 10:08

I don't listen often now, but I caught the one with Rauri lying to Will. That poor boy has abandonment issues; he should have gone to live with the 'childless aunt' instead of his elderly father who packed him off to a boarding school at the first opportunity.

Anyway, Pip still vile, quite like Hannah, but only because she pisses off Emma.

I have checked, Henry is nearly 8, why does he talk like a four year old.
Not heard Dementia Dave, what is he forgetting?

QuaterMiss · 02/11/2018 10:15

Thoughts on Pip sounding unhinged? I suspect that rather than this being the prequel to some gruesome Christmas outrage it is, more prosaically, exactly what we've all been saying - the SWs don't realise just how awful the Brookfield dynamic sounds to listeners.

She isn't ready for it and will not want another man in Henry's life who could either hurt or abandon him.

Hah! Helen wil be up-duffed in time for Easter. Lee will be unexpectedly and urgently needed to set up karate clubs in Tasmania ...

birdsdestiny · 02/11/2018 10:19

I hope not because Lee is not a real karate instructor, he doesn't know how to pronounce Kata.

R4 · 02/11/2018 10:31

Not how I heard it at all! I thought that Brine and Ruairi had a lovely relationship, they both see the world in the same entitled way . They have both sussed the concept of playing to the gallery. Brine told Ruairi off in front of Will, made a noble gesture in docking wages but then slipped R some cash behind Will's back. Ruairi apologised to Will (his mea culpa routine is masterly; bet he has practised it many times at school) but doesn't really give a fig.
They are cut from the same cloth.
Can't wait to see how Adam reacts to the relationship.

Yabbers · 02/11/2018 10:33

Need to catch up. Shameless place marking

QuaterMiss · 02/11/2018 10:54

Have to say Ruairi seems to have had a magnificent life (after his mother's death). Imagine how rejected he'd feel residing elsewhere and knowing his living parent apparently didn't want him.

I'm fairly sure it was Jenny who first mentioned boarding for him - think she felt he'd be lonely and she didn't have the energy to look after a lively boy day in day out. (We don't know if she had any wicked step-mother reasons ...)

There's never been any indication that he was unhappy at school, and he seems to be at home as often as any other boarder - at least every couple of weeks up to yr 8, probably every 2-3 weeks from yr 9. And I assume his family turn up for school events and taking out for lunch, etc, in the normal way. Obviously we don't hear all of this!

So I'd be hugely disappointed if they retrospectively decide to give him some anachronistic boarding school trauma. (But also surprised if he doesn't agonise over his origins at some point ...)

5000FingersofDrT · 02/11/2018 11:00

I caught up a bit by listening last night and then half-wished I hadn't because this is traditionally the time of year - like my own personal Stir-Up Sunday - that Bad Lynda appears and I start to hate her (at other times they let her appear softer and more vulnerable and I then revise my opinion - damn you, SWs!).

I just cannot stand her in Christmas Play Supremo mode. I'm sorry but I can't. I can't understand why nobody's told her to @*#% off before now, she's SO vile. And it will only get worse.

On a side note - what the heck were those bizarre noises Dopey Dave was making while being lectured by Lynda? Sort of 'Mmppph. Urrrgh. Gnaaaaarghl'. Utterly weird.

Symptoms of Alzheimer's, dontcha know.Grin

Miscible · 02/11/2018 11:14

I never really understand why they all roll over for Lynda so meekly. It made no sense whatsoever for David to be there for readthrough: she will have a much better idea of what is needed in terms of lighting etc much nearer to the performance. I hope she regretted it when he and Ruth wouldn't stop yakking.

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 11:40

What's this about David killing someone?

Have I missed something - or was it before my time? Confused

Theyprobablywill · 02/11/2018 11:44

Nigel, he got him drunk, lured him up to the roof and arranged an 'accodent'.

I think he also killed Clarrie's dad. Not mention the badger.

QuaterMiss · 02/11/2018 11:47

Serial ...

C8H10N4O2 · 02/11/2018 11:49

What's this about David killing someone?

Jethro Larkin (chainsaw/tree felling incident, David was pushing Jethro to continue in adverse conditions because (I think) he wanted to get off to do something else)
Nigel (fell of roof trying to remove stuff in bad weather which could have waited but David wanted to get it done in a hurry)

Both caused by David's impatience/pushing to get a job done in adverse circumstances.

Theyprobablywill · 02/11/2018 11:58

I think he may be involved in Heatherpet's death who fell off her perch after a rousing chorus of ' my old man said follow the van' whilst on her way to live at Brookfailed. This served the double reward of not having to live with a frail pensioner, and a welcome injection of cash.

But I can't work out how he did it.

Remote control electric shock via seatbelt.

Just remembered "C'mon Nigel! Are you a man or a mouse?"

Theyprobablywill · 02/11/2018 12:09

Oh God! I've just remembered to taunting of poor drunk vulnerable Nigel. I have long thought David was a psychopath, especially after the incident with the tree house.

Theyprobablywill · 02/11/2018 12:11

And God knows what will happen to Jill when she's no longer useful.

TheEfficientBaxter · 02/11/2018 12:12

Right! Oh well, yes, I remember Heatherpet's sudden demise. And I've heard lots about Nigel's 'accident'. Didn't know about all the others. Gosh, he sounds dangerous!

Better not get on the wrong side of him, then. Watch your back, Bossy Lynda Shock
