Archers Thanks to LilG for the title, and DDD for starting the last thread and the tradition of the thread starter nominating the next thread starter Grin

Lurkers are always welcome to unlurk and join in, including asking questions of the many very knowledgeable posters with a long Archers-listening history.

Don't post spoilers based on forthcoming plot synopses that you've read, there's another thread for that (and we'd love to see you over there). Once an episode has aired then it's fair game. Archers

Oh! Birds Destiny! That's a bit of a sweeping statement! People are capable of being kind without having an ulterior agenda! It's how normal people actually behave in real life (in my experience anyway)

TheEfficientBaxter · 26/10/2018 20:27

And yes! Of course Helen is going to become involved with Lee. It's obvious.

TubeTop · 26/10/2018 20:31

@TheEfficientBaxter re. grating Johnny... I think it's possibly because you're from Lancs that he grates. I'm in the same boat. I think it's because he's supposed to be from there but they give him things to say that just wouldn't be said in that region. His regionalness doesn't ring true.

Really annoyed I can't think of any examples right now but I often just think "a lad of that age from there wouldn't say that"

QuaterMiss · 26/10/2018 20:35

Isn't he from Yorkshire?

TheEfficientBaxter · 26/10/2018 20:48

Yes! Tubetop, you might be right. Whenever I know Johnny is about to speak, all I expect to hear is him saying "haulin' grain" , in a very Northern accent.

Not fair,I know, but that's how it is.

TubeTop · 26/10/2018 21:05

I think he's supposed to have been brought up in Leeds.

HildaTablet · 26/10/2018 21:20

Yes, Johnny's a Yorkie. Harrison's from Lancashire. Two different accents Smile

TheEfficientBaxter · 26/10/2018 21:27

Oh! Don't get me started on Harrison! Jawlene!

TubeTop · 26/10/2018 21:42

I'm from Lancashire but now live in Yorkshire so highly sensitive to those accents! Harrison's Lancs twang feels right but Johnny always sounds fake. To me.

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/10/2018 21:48

There's a lot of different accents in Yorkshire. Leeds accent is different from Yorkshire Dales, and from Sheffield. My local town has a different accent from the city 10 miles away.

TheEfficientBaxter · 26/10/2018 21:50

Yes, I agree, Tube Top. But somehow Johnny just doesn't sound right. Is the actor actually from Yorkshire, or is he putting it on?

mabelchiltern · 26/10/2018 23:25

Johnny’s already a national treasure

LassWiADelicateAir · 27/10/2018 00:01

Is Pat usually that slow on the uptake?

NoUnicornsToSeeHere · 27/10/2018 02:11

So we’re supposed to believe that Freddie has people queuing up to see him (Elizabeth, Jonny, Josh, Jill, Kenton, David...) but absolutely no one has kept in touch with Lily?

EBearhug · 27/10/2018 02:24

Didn't they decide not to worry her while she's settling into uni, at the family meeting last week? Or did I imagine that?

Colabottle10 · 27/10/2018 05:55

I believe I read somewhere that Freddie is at YOI Deerbolt, Barnard Castle. It's rural and surrounded by trees which I believe Lizzy mentioned on their first journey up.

witchmountain · 27/10/2018 07:04

They did EBearhug.

I’m annoyed we haven’t heard from Lily too. It doesn’t matter how many people are in touch with her though because almost none of them know about Russ, so we wouldn’t get a proper update unless it was a conversation with Elizabeth or Phoebe. Shula and Kenton know but I’m not sure Lily knows they know. She’d be pretending everything was ok anyway, we need to go on location and see them together!

Welcome to all delurkers!

Pat is definitely that slow in the uptake. Witness how long it took her to notice that her daughter was being abused.

BertrandRussell · 27/10/2018 08:10

"All "grande dame" and who cares that lowly peasant Johnny will be late for work and inconveniencing some one else in the process."
That's funny-I didn't hear it like that at all. I heard it as her being so one track minded that she was completely blinkered to anyone else's point of view. Borne out by last night-her not noticing that things are falling apart at Lower Locksley....

glamorousgrandmother · 27/10/2018 08:13

"All "grande dame" and who cares that lowly peasant Johnny will be late for work and inconveniencing some one else in the process."
That's how I heard it too. Her needs should naturally override anybody else's.

cheminotte · 27/10/2018 08:27

Presumably it’s not Geraldine’s job to empty the bins though so unless the Freddie situation has led to other staff leaving I’m not sure what the link is.

GoatYoga · 27/10/2018 08:43

I think Lizzie is heading for a breakdown - I’m not sure she ever really grieved properly for Nigel, her focus was keeping the business going and the children. It’s all falling apart for the children and she will follow.

TheLandofTears · 27/10/2018 08:47

Delurking (friendly wave hello) and adding myself to the Johnny fan-club.
He's played by Tom Gibbons who is from Leeds, so his accent must be authentic? www.spotlight.com/9257-7831-6677

TubeTop · 27/10/2018 08:47

I am now the one slow on the uptake... What is Pat being slow on the uptake about?

BertrandRussell · 27/10/2018 08:49

Yes, I think she is heading for a breakdown too-and very realistically. The SW are doing a good job there.Lily will have to come back and run the business. Because women are not allowed to have inappropriate sex or leave the Ambridge force field unpunished.
