Archers

No, that's not a jokey exaggeration, this is really the 93rd thread in a series started by PseudoBadger five years ago! In fact, post number Star 90,000 Star in the "official" count will be made on this thread.

Archers

Lovers of The Archers welcome (along with the rest of us who have a more complicated relationship with the "TA" Smile).

One rule we try to stick to: No mentioning of future episode plotlines published in the Radio Times etc. However, once an episode has aired, say what you like!

Archers

What is going to happen to Freddie? And are we ever going to hear from Lily again?
I also am wondering what it will take for Kenton to apologise to Fallon...

Lilian and Matt pre Ambridge Extra was much better than all this, I do agree. Although I liked it when Matt was in prison and Lil was doing her own thing. She's always been written as if unable to thrive without a man in her life, and it may well be a generational thing.
SarfE4sticated - Lilian and Justin didn't get married at all. Justin called it off on the day, to prove his true love for Lilian, thereby leaving her up the Am without a financial paddle if he ever falls out of love with her.

Have my marbles finally gone? I thought it was Lilian who called it off.

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2018 08:41

No your marbles are all there R4 it was LILIAN who called it off.

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2018 08:43

Hannah is a 'player' Tom must be desperate to get his leg over AGAIN!

LillianGish · 17/10/2018 08:54

wonder if they’re hinting at Lizzy’s demise Not her demise, but I do think she is finding this harder than Freddie is. He seems to have accepted he’s guilty (which he is) and has to serve his sentence and has concluded that the best way to do this isn’t to keep his head down and not draw attention to himself. Elizabeth has not accepted any of this - she is used to getting her own way and used to being in charge. She is suffering from an extreme case of empty nest syndrome - losing both twins in one fell swoop and neither in happy circumstances. She’s also missing Nigel more than ever, but at least when Nigel died she had people’s sympathy and the village rallying round to help. There’s little sympathy for Freddie and she can’t bring herself to tell anyone about Lily so she’s also got the effort of keeping up a front. Her business appears to be struggling (that’s what the scene with Bert was all about) and there’s no one she can obviously call on to take the strain (Caroline loaned her Roy when Nigel died - and the less said about that the better). We also know she has a weak heart.

R4 · 17/10/2018 09:10

No your marbles are all there R4

Phew!
They were all set to marry, Sarf, but Lilian decided - on the morning - that she couldn't go through with it so they had a not-a-marriage instead. I'm waiting for this to come back and bite Lilian on the bum.
She was cleaned out when Matt left but she still had the life-tenancy (effectively) of the Dower House. She lost that when Justin bought it out. She then decided not to marry Justin so she turned down that financial security, too.
However, the Ambridge Finance Fairy seems to be supplying her with tenants so she will probably still belong to the inexplicably-wealthy section of Ambridge.Hmm

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2018 09:19

Yes true but was it clear if she actually signed the financial documents? Or not? Because if they're not married and she did sign she may be alright ? I'm not sure?

SusanWalker · 17/10/2018 09:42

Tom and Hannah should bugger off to America and set up a pig farm together. They are the two most annoying characters i have ever listened to.

Elizabeth's always had issues with not thinking about what the twins need, but what she thinks they should do. She pushed Freddie into doing A-Levels when it would have made much more sense for him to do a hospitality management course or something similar, whilst learning the business. I think part of the reason he ended up getting involved with Ellis was because he felt inferior at college, struggling to keep up with his clever sister. And also because his A Level courses bored him to death.

I have a feeling she's going to push the appeal through, even if she has to do it herself, and the judge is going to decide the sentence was too lenient and add some on. The argument that prison isn't for the likes of the Pargeters would not go down well.

I am enjoying the bonding with Alistair and Jim.

R4 · 17/10/2018 09:49

I am enjoying the bonding with Alistair and Jim.

That's a good compare&contrast. Will we have a similar scene, 40 years from now, between Freddie and Lizzie where they discuss the parent 'doing the wrong thing for the right reasons'.

QuaterMiss · 17/10/2018 09:52

So, I've had a look at Lilian's character biog and it doesn't say whether or not Amside Properties has been consumed by Damara or not. So I've no idea where Lilian is with it. And how it's functioning if she is the only member of staff! (Clearly if Damara now owns it I guess there may be extra staff?)

I'm very firmly in the 'worried about Lilian's unmarried future' camp.

R4 · 17/10/2018 10:00

I'm not! I'm hoping the silly flibbertigibbit gets all that she deserves.
oops, did I say that out loud? how unkind

It will be time to start a new thread this weekend. So, thread title suggestions, please.

Remember I proposed that the thread starter gets to nominate who starts the next thread. So if the Thread Father makes you an offer you can't refuse, then, er, you'd better not, um,... refuse. Confused You get to choose and / or edit the next thread title, and of course a key to the executive ex-BL-portaloo bathroom.

Oooh, D^3. That was post number 888.

DadDadDad · 17/10/2018 10:42

Yes, R4, I noticed that. I think the Chinese would consider that particularly propitious.

QuaterMiss · 17/10/2018 11:33

May I be the first to extend my congratulations to the current thread starter for the splendid way in which the thread has been marshalled, Star while categorically stating that I would not want to be considered for the role.

Firstly, I don't know how the linking up thing works. Blush

Secondly, I'll be really, really busy over the next few days. (Deadline. Is why I've been loitering with such determination around these parts lately.) Hmm

Thirdly, what with Bit Out's return an'all, the thread probably needs someone with a more positive outlook than I possess. Gin

Fourthly, I'm really lazy. You wouldn't get a thread this weekend - just a snivelling excuse for why there isn't one. Wine

Going back a long way to the reminiscences about Bert, didn't he first appear at Brookfield after Clarrie's dad Jethro Larkin died when David dropped a branch on his head? Jethro had worked at Brookfield since the days of Dan and Doris and his demise left a gap for another yokel, so in came Bert. I only remember this fairly dimly, though, as it was probably 30 years ago. It may well be that the SWs have now decided that Bert was there all along, declaiming his poetry to the open fields as he drove the tractor or brought the herd in, just never within range of a microphone. Grin

He and Freda lived in Woodbine Cottage in the village which belonged to Brookfield then (Fallon and Harrison live there now and earlier it was the Larkins' home). When the Archers played Musical Houses, David, Ruth and children moved out of the Bungalow and into Brookfield, Jill and Phil moved out of Brookfield into Glebe Cottage, Shula, Alistair and Dan moved out Glebe and into the Stables, Christine and George moved out of the Stables and into the old Police House and Bert and Freda moved out of Woodbine and into the Bungalow. Is that right?

I'm unclear about who lived in the old Police House before that or who moved into Woodbine when Bert and Freda moved out. Later Christine and George moved to Woodbine, after Clive attempted to burn the old Police House down with Christine and Jill inside it. The OPH was renamed Greenacres and is now Jim Lloyd's house.

QuaterMiss · 17/10/2018 12:19

I was anticipating that you would remember more about Bert, Tiger! I have no recollection at all of how arrived - I just seem to remember Phil chatting to him as they pottered around the farm.

I suspect at least half of my love of Ambridge is based on a narrative I've made up in my head ...

witchmountain · 17/10/2018 12:36

Those excuses would never wash with Lynda, Quater.

R4 · 17/10/2018 12:41

Remember I proposed that the thread starter gets to nominate who starts the next thread

No, that's not how it works at all. I distinctly remember from the beginning that we agreed lies through teeth that the post of thread-starter is held for 5 years. That's right, isn't it Pseudo?Wink

So unless anyone else wants it, you are in for the long haul D^3.Grin

DadDadDad · 17/10/2018 12:46

Hmm, Quarter, getting your excuses in early. You do realise that you are now equal first poster on this thread with 75 posts. I shall obviously have to ask the other top poster.

Thanks, by the way, for your words of praise.

Didn't Sgt Barry live in the police house, and wasn't he closely involved with Cathy Perks at one point?

I get confused with all these cottage names - which one does Pip occupy?

Which cottage did Sid Perks own that Cathy rented off him to start with?

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 17/10/2018 13:17

Pip's in Rickyard Cottage. I think Sid's cottage was April Cottage, and Kathy is there now (as far as we know).

The Grundy clan lived in Keeper's Cottage latterly. Doc Locke is there now.

Honeysuckle Cottage belongs to Adam and Ian.

Blossom Hill Cottage belongs to Usha. Used to be rented to Rob and Helen - who's there now? Do we know? It was Anisha.

MapleLeafRag · 17/10/2018 13:41

Thanks Tiger

This is what the Lowfield recap about Justin and Lilian's wedding day says, and this is how I remember it, myself, as well. Lilian had been havering and then decided to go for it, but on the day itself, Justin decided it was better not, I remember thinking it was all very fishy at the time.
"Episode: Friday 22nd December, 2017

Friday 22nd December

It's a day to remember for Lilian

Elizabeth, Jennifer, Lilian, Pip, Toby, Justin, Brian, Peggy.

Pip asks Toby how involved he wants to be with the pregnancy and baby. He says he doesn't want to be involved.
On the morning of the wedding, Justin insists he sees Lilian shortly before the ceremony. He can't marry her because he loves her far too much. He wants to be with her, but not by marrying her.
Some of the guests are starting to wonder why Justin and Lilian haven't appeared yet. Brian has bet Noluthando £20 that the wedding wouldn't happen.
Lilian and Justin say their vows to each other in private.
At last, Justin and Lilian join their guests and announce that there's been a change of plan. They're not getting married, but are staying together, forever."
