As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

MUM - you are not alone.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 17/09/2018 21:19

When you think things couldn’t possibly get worse, Pip walks through the door...

BolleauxtoBankers · 17/09/2018 21:30

My daughter's just started her Master's in Manchester, (I'm) paying £395.50 for a roomfor her in a flat-share for two, in Castlefield, which is half-way between the university and the city centre, I"m told. It's a well fancy flat, with dishwasher and lift, as well as a bedroom each and a living room. (Well, I'm impressed, twasn't like that in my day, in Brissle, 40 year ago!). She mocks my Archers addiction, so I forbore from asking her to see if she could find Lily and help her get away from Russ. (I do realise how sad my life is, thank you.)

TravellingFleet · 17/09/2018 21:31

Can I pop in a late BOOP for the description of Shula’s wildflower bouquet involving ladies’ bedstraw and self-heal, In competition with a bouquet of comfrey and sansfoy?

Gersemi · 17/09/2018 22:17

Me neither. In fact, in the flat we had in the third year the kitchen and bath were in the same room.

She mocks my Archers addiction

You can mock her back when she is posting avidly to this thread in a few years time Grin

C8H10N4O2 · 17/09/2018 22:31

I still hate Pip.

I think possibly the thing I hate even more than Pip is Deavid and Ruth and lately Jill all simpering along and giggling when she bitches about Josh.

Perhaps they have forgotten They are his parents too, he isn't some random on work experience.

LassWiADelicateAir · 17/09/2018 22:32

Do any of you know how much milking parlours cost? That is a rhetorical question- the answer is a lot.

I still hate Pip. I always fast forward Pip if it's just Pip wittering on with her idiotic parents.

What was all that nonsense about having girly sleepover?

EBearhug · 17/09/2018 23:58

They could probably get a second hand parlour from Brookfield soon.

Minimammoth · 18/09/2018 06:55

My husband did the buiding work for a second hand parlour installation a year ago. It was mega. Lots of concrete, pits to dig and line, electrics, aside from actual parlour, etc I reckon a six figure number, all told.plus a temporary parlour while installation goes ahead.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 18/09/2018 06:59

What did they do with the old parlour? Is that now the shop/tea room?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 18/09/2018 07:08

Apolicies for bringing up Brexit but good to hear it being mentioned. Though I didn’t really understand what they were saying.

BolleauxtoBankers · 18/09/2018 07:08

Gersemi - we had silverfish in the bathroom and had to use one of those rubber shower things attached to the bath taps to wash our hair. It was a basement so damp that we had toads in the corridor. One of the bedrooms was also the living/dining-room. On the other hand, we "only" paid £32 a month each for it.
Ah, happy days!

BolleauxtoBankers · 18/09/2018 07:20

A propos of absolutely nothing to do with the Archers, but for my own satisfaction, I have used the Bank of England's inflation calculator to work out that the rent for the basement flat mentioned above would be £174.53 pp a month today, based on an average inflation rate of 4.4% a year.
Sorry about that.
Welcome/Freshers' Week in Manchester looks as if Lily will be really busy and not spending much time with the artistic Russ until Saturday, at least!
Also, will Lily really come back from Manchester to be interviewed about Russ's shenanigans?

BolleauxtoBankers · 18/09/2018 07:21

And finally (sorry about this, no coffee yet this morning), have we heard what subject(s) Lily's degree is in?

Gersemi · 18/09/2018 07:33

Urgh. Just hearing that patronising "Well done" from Pip to her mother gets my hackles rising. "Well done" to her very experienced farmer mother for doing things that she was doing since before Pip was born, FFS! I wish Ruth would just tell her to fuck off.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 18/09/2018 07:37

Yes - and then the - 'just checking you are still going with MY choice of parour? Aren't you? Because it was MY idea. It will be Sooooo much better than anyone else's idea."

cheminotte · 18/09/2018 07:44

Ok am going to go against the crowd here and say I really enjoyed the scene with Pip and Ruth. I could really picture her sat with baby Rosie lying sated on her chest having a milky sleep. Brought back lots of lovely memories of that period when dc were tiny. Getting Ruth to look in her bag as she couldn’t move for fear of waking her (unsaid but understood) was great too.

EBearhug · 18/09/2018 08:21

What did they do with the old parlour? Is that now the shop/tea room?

Yes, Tom said something about shame we turned it into the shop.

He seemed very enthusiastic about it last night, which seemed like a volte-face to me. Is that what helping Helen with the figures does?

5000FingersofDrT · 18/09/2018 08:27

The Pip actress's diction plumbed new depths in that ep. It's fascinating but utterly bizarre.

'We went into BOR. CHES. TER.'

'It's Rosie's PRESent FOR her GRANDdad's BIIIRTH-day'. I can't easily replicate it but it's so infuriatingly chopped-up and sing-songy. why cant she just talk normally? She's so hyper-keen to ACT all the time!

ppeatfruit · 18/09/2018 09:13

Bolleaux Sweet, you had a wildlife flat Grin

ppeatfruit · 18/09/2018 09:44

I thought that Pip sounded fine, BOOP for a sensitive breast feeding scene with new granny, and she was kind to take Rosie round to sad, lonely Lizzie's.

DeusEx · 18/09/2018 09:54

Brexit dialogue felt a bit cringe. Also was there a reason for Tom’s sudden U turn?

Also, more of Johnny please. He is a great character (and I have a total voice crush).

LillianGish · 18/09/2018 09:57

I liked that episode. Elizabeth can’t bear to tell anyone about Russ - she’s waiting to see how things pan out. That’s why she can’t have Pip to stay in case she blurts it out. Frankly I’m astonished that word has not leaked out already. Where is Dairyfarmerswife to tell us about the costs of building a new parlour - didn’t Ed used to have some kind of mobile contraption when he had his herd? Is it really cost effective to keep chopping and changing so much you have to keep kitting yourself out with expensive equipment only to get ride of it and then have to replace it?

C8H10N4O2 · 18/09/2018 10:17

She's so hyper-keen to ACT all the time!

Jill's best friend was being interviewed a while back on some random R4 programme. One of the discussion points was how the techniques differ when acting just with voice. She mentioned how they try to coach junior members of cast who don't seem to get the training in voice acting.

She didn't actually say Pip was a crap voice actor but that was my interpretation Grin
