As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

Actually, this newly invented ‘ sad history of Alistair’ doesn’t make sense. Shula would absolutely have arranged a party for at least one of his birthdays over the past few years.

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2018 21:13

MrsArthur I don't reckon that Lily and Russ's relationship is like H & R's; Russ is just an overaged hippy "looking for himself y'know" (his wife, who he seems frightened of, is controlling their bank account fgs).

Lily is a having a late teenage rebellion phase which she'll grow out of (leaving Russ doing his daubs in the expensive flat that he can't afford) as long as Lizzie plays it softly softly.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/09/2018 21:37

Shula would absolutely have arranged a party for at least one of his birthdays over the past few years. Dinner out, dinner with Dan, dinner with the family?

LassWiADelicateAir · 16/09/2018 21:45

Because really, there’s no point in Alistair’s remaining in the village otherwise

They do need a vet (although I suppose the village doctor has gone AWOL and no one has noticed) and he will be a constant irritation to Shula- which is something.

Alastair can't afford to retire but at his age setting up a new practice elsewhere isn't an option. If Alastair were to leave would Jim go too?

I doubt it.

QuaterMiss · 16/09/2018 21:53

But still - a proper party for a significant year. (And I don’t believe the new ‘he’s got no friends’ thing either. Absolutely no reason why Alistair wouldn’t have old university / vet training friends as well as newer farming and professional association friends. And wasn’t he formerly cricket captain? Even given the gambling troubles, it’s nonsensical retrospective re-writing of history to serve the current plot.)

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2018 21:54

I doubt it too, she would've asked him if he wanted one and he'd have replied in his negative party pooper way.

Interesting that we are now learning more about his childood. I quite like him now the jogging has cheered him up. He's even better at cricket Grin

Dress code: hair shirts.

Shula is her mothers daughter. She would have organised a Birthday Tea complete with homemade Birthday Cake and candles.

QuaterMiss · 16/09/2018 21:58

Oh, good grief!

Gersemi · 16/09/2018 23:09

Wasn't the point of Jazzer's party that this was an adult take on a children's party because Alastair had never had one as a child?

LetticeFortescue · 16/09/2018 23:26

Gersemi yes

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 17/09/2018 07:25

Alistair didn't explain to Shula what he'd done to celebrate his birthday or why it was so great, so she is assuming he had a night of shagging with Lavinia Rafferty or similar. Grin

Shula meanwhile is living the life of a nun and unable to admit to herself that she's not enjoying it any more than her boringly predictable life with Alistair, because the problem never was Alistair, it's Shula.

LillianGish · 17/09/2018 08:11

because the problem never was Alistair, it's Shula In a nutshell.

BikingBeatrix · 17/09/2018 13:13

Yes, yes, yes l do see where l was going awry in my comment about lawyers and friendship - my brain fog is terrible just now. It’s obviously going to be a braw winter. Would you all miss me if l never posted again bc that’s possibly the only alternative to me getting muddled ideas? Question is rhetorical btw. Grin l even struggled to spell rhetorical there. My spelling used to be good. Sad

ppeatfruit · 17/09/2018 13:20

Oh I keep meaning to ask if anyone actually heard a character on TA say if Freddie is on bail at the moment, if so who said it and what was said? Did I miss it?

witchmountain · 17/09/2018 13:54

Isn’t he automatically on bail given that hes been charged with a crime and he’s not on remand?

R4 · 17/09/2018 13:55

If we all did that then MN would probably collapse to a membership of 42.Grin

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 17/09/2018 14:06

As many as that? Grin

Gersemi · 17/09/2018 17:01

Yes, that's correct, witchmountain.

cheminotte · 17/09/2018 17:43

I mostly only post to placemark!

witchmountain · 17/09/2018 17:59

cheminotte but why? When you can watch a thread and bookmark? The more posters the merrier as far as I’m concerned but I don’t get the placemarking thing!

cheminotte · 17/09/2018 18:37

Ha I knew someone would say that! Ok, well I do like to join in the discussion but I’m often listening out of sync so my comment is about 3 days ago and the discussion has moved on.

Peartree17 · 17/09/2018 20:38

Cheminotte, I wouldn't worry - people comment on here on events 50 years ago!

I did feel for Elizabeth on Friday's episode (which I didnt' hear until Sunday, on the M4) - just didn't quite know when to shut up and not press her advantage. I'm afraid that's very likely something I would have done. But, with luck, Lily will have taken it in...

MikeUniformMike · 17/09/2018 20:43

I still hate Pip.
