As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

sometimes being the key word though Quater Joe can also be astonishingly blockheaded. An interesting mix though.

I was thinking that Hannah could become quite a serious character, she seems to have some depth to her. Fallon has a conscience, I like her plastic free policies.

QuaterMiss · 12/09/2018 16:14

I suspect the ‘interesting mix’ is because the SWs too often use him for light relief. Whereas the ‘real’ Joe (As I perceive him) is someone who often thinks deep thoughts. (Having been to Hell and back, poor man.)

He’s well contrasted with Bert, who for all his rustic poetry, is another flibbertigibbet. Joe’s connection with the land is positively mythical. In a way he’s what Tom should aspire to be - someone entirely in tune with his environment.

(Can you tell I’m avoiding a deadline??)

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2018 16:28

I'm avoiding the garden and heat at the moment! It's too hot here, I'm a fair skinned wimp!

Though everyone in RL seems to be a mix of life experience , learning from it, and ignoring it! Plus humour and humourlessness TA SWs use that to the max.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2018 16:31

The Grundies are real toilers, and keepers of the land ,I know what you mean about Tom , Helen too, it's all a bit intellectual and not enough feeling with them, Tony and Pat are more passionate, like the Grundies IMO.

EBearhug · 12/09/2018 19:06

Surely as MFH, Shula is expected to be at the first hunt of the season?

QuaterMiss · 12/09/2018 19:18

And ... so it begins for Lily ...

The Grundies are real toilers, and keepers of the land

Will has always been a hard worker like Clarrie. Ed has grown into a hard worker.

Eddie and Joe were not great farmers and took every short cut in the book which was a significant factor in their losing the farm. Remember the fake sheep dipping to save a few quid and a tedious job?

Joe may be the sometimes sweet old man now but he certainly wasn't in the past.

LassWiADelicateAir · 12/09/2018 20:59

I expected Phoebe to see through Russ.

QuaterMiss · 12/09/2018 21:09

Phoebe was very clever ...

ADarkandStormyKnight · 12/09/2018 21:13

Maybe Phoebe has simply decided that its pointless. If Lily still believes the old 'my wife is crazy and our marriage died years ago' bollocks then she's deep in the land of delusion. She'll just have to find out for herself.

This flat doesn't sound so wonderful now, does it?

MikeUniformMike · 12/09/2018 21:20

Freddie is the only one other than Phoebe to point out that Russ is awful. Good old Freddie. I

Gersemi · 13/09/2018 01:01

That Gwen John painting is going to hit the sales rooms in the very near future.

QuaterMiss · 13/09/2018 05:32

I hope Lily won’t volunteer its sacrifice. Perhaps it will be at the very moment Russ suggests selling it that Lily sees him clearly for the first time.

Though even that might not change her mind. She may just morph from carefree schoolgirl into full handmaidenly rescue mode - she’s been in training for that role for quite a while.

In Northumberland terms I’m at the stage of wondering just how outrageous the many-headed editor has decided to be. And what the long term plan was when the twins were born. Perhaps she was always going to be banished (earlier than necessary) while TA concentrated on the son and heir. Years in the wilderness supporting a feckless and increasingly useless partner? Dropping out of university? (We know how strongly successive editorial teams have disapproved of Ambridge women completing and using tertiary education. Hmm ) Becoming ever more harried and bedraggled? Finally prodigal daughtering back to LL sometime in the distant future - with a brood of boisterous children and Russ (blocked on all devices) intermittently turning up to plead for all he’s destroyed in her.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 13/09/2018 06:16

Although Lily irritates me beyond anything I have sone considerable sympathy for her situation. Not only does Freddie inherit, but he has shown himself unfit to manage the responsibilities that are coming his way. I can imagine she has intimations of spending her life propping up Freddie and the business while Freddie chafes and frets and charms his was through every crisis.

On another tangent - maybe Freddie will be inspired to take up a career with horses. He seems to be enjoying it.

QuaterMiss · 13/09/2018 06:39

Just realised I didn’t paint Lily’s coming monetary inheritance into my picture. One would hope there are a million conditions to be fulfilled before any serious money arrives at her door. (Perhaps she’s been wise enough not to let Russ know about that.) Guess it can’t be happening soon or Phoebe wouldn’t have had to ask what she and Russ will live on in Manchester. 21? 25? 30? (I once knew someone who had to wait until they were 35 to come into their riches.)

I do recall that the last time Lily’s bright financial future was speculated upon someone here raised a difficulty - but I don’t remember what it was.

BertrandRussell · 13/09/2018 06:53

Do we know whether there is serious money in Lily's future? Just because you've got a stately home doesn't mean you've got lots of actual cash.......

QuaterMiss · 13/09/2018 07:06

I distinctly (caution!) recall Elizabeth discussing the terms of Nigel’s Will with, I think, David. As Freddie gets LL, Lily was to have an equivalent amount in money. (The expectation being that she would marry and move away.)

Someone will say I’m wrong ...

cheminotte · 13/09/2018 07:49

That’s a rather depressing vision of Lily’s future QM !

It was lovely to hear Freddy with the horses yesterday. DS has just started riding and keeps asking why it’s all girls. Am tempted to listen again to that episode this afternoon when he’s in earshot! (No pressure from me, btw, totally his choice).

DeusEx · 13/09/2018 07:57

On Shula, I would have thought as MFH she would be there - but as she was wearing a ratcatcher I’m guessing that was an informal outing with the young hounds rather than the formal first hunt of the year. So we can maybe let her off the hook ;)

I can’t inagjne Freddie’s night out tonight is going to look great to a judge, especially if there’s photo evidence - or if he bumps into Ellis...

BertrandRussell · 13/09/2018 07:59

Amused at the repeated use of "ratcatcher".
The scriptwriters saying "ooh look how good our research is!"

ADarkandStormyKnight · 13/09/2018 08:02

Maybe Freddie’s big night out and Alistair’s big night out will collide...

CarefullyDrawnMap · 13/09/2018 09:00

I'm hopeful Lills will come to her senses. She can spend this year getting Russ out of her system and then start afresh again next year, like a gap year learning about unsuitable men instead of doing voluntary work. I thought Phoebe was good - she's asking sensible questions, being supportive, and didn't say anything that will alienate Lilly and leave her more isolated when things go wrong.

Also pleased Johnny and Freddie are friends again. It was quite heartwarming. I wonder if Johnny is going to report the other boy, I can't remember his name right now.

wurzelburga · 13/09/2018 09:09

On Lily’s financial expectationsI think wills are a matter of public record and I would not be surprised if Russ had done his homework on this ( as much as, if not more than, the script writers)

Gersemi · 13/09/2018 09:09

Lily's belief that she's entitled to be as unpleasant and rude as she likes to Fallon make me itch to slap her. Lily above all knows how serious Freddie's dealing was while she was keeping quiet about it, so she's hardly in a position to claim that what is happening is unfair.

drspouse · 13/09/2018 09:15

I hope someone points out to Johnny that not reporting Ellis (that's his name) is withholding evidence and he could be arrested.
