As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

Brookfield milk isn't organic.

I'd rather assumed that Bridge Farm uses organic milk in its cheese and yoghurts. Or am I wrong?

drspouse · 11/09/2018 13:04

I hope they do it realistically with the 12 months wait to see CAMHS...
Nah it will be like Helen's IUI and they'll go in one day and get a diagnosis the next.
And they won't ask for evidence he's affected in more than one setting either.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2018 13:05

You're correct, Teen they buy in organic milk , Helen has been to see their supplier who obviously didn't care that the quality has dropped (from what I could gather).

I know it is challenging to find convincing young, child actors but I was not convinced by the new Henry. Can’t they cast an older child (this is radio after all who would at least not sound as if they were reading?

Sorry if the mum is on this thread.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2018 14:48

Oh give the kid a chance wurzel he sounded older than 7 or 8, they probably told him to sound grumpy and miserable. A lot of adult actors on telly (especially in soaps) start off very badly and improve with time Hmm

Girlwhowearsglasses · 11/09/2018 15:45

One would hope - with his history - that a referral to CAMHS would go through quick-ish - but in reality......

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2018 19:22

Now what was the point of that episode, may I ask?

QuaterMiss · 11/09/2018 19:29

It was rather strange and surreal ...

CarefullyDrawnMap · 11/09/2018 19:34

Ha ha, I thought the same - bit of a holding episode, somehow. Nice to hear from Hilda though.

Fink · 11/09/2018 19:37

It was quite disappointing. When Brian was being all cryptic with Peggy on Sunday I thought he had a real plan to save the farm without selling the house, then he turns out to just be plotting about flowers. And if they were going to do a comic plot about everyone thinking Jazzer was leaving but he didn't have a clue, they could have strung it out much longer rather than resolved it in 5 minutes.

CarefullyDrawnMap · 11/09/2018 19:39

I thought Brian had found a plot of land that he was planning to build a snazzy eco-bungalow on for him and Jenny, and wanted Peggy to take a look. I'm sceptical the fruit and veg stuff is going to prove enough to cheer up Jenny.
Was Jazzer making a cake?

witchmountain · 11/09/2018 20:22

The pink icing was worrying. I hope he’s not baking a replacement cake wife.

witchmountain · 11/09/2018 20:23

witchcat was pleased to hear from Hilda, he’s always very interested when the radio miaows.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2018 20:31

He's making a 'bosom' cake.

TigerTeatimes · 11/09/2018 21:11

I knew exactly what Brian was planning as it was hinted at very heavily in the Kat episode he and Peggy were in.

I'd assumed Jazzer was mixing up a lethal pink cocktail, or some sort barely legal marathon boosting sports drink. I hope he nails it like Fallon's hen.

TigerTeatimes · 11/09/2018 21:12

Wow that last bit doesn't sound exactly right. HmmBlush

CarefullyDrawnMap · 12/09/2018 09:35

I so hope it is a 'bosom cake'. Or a depiction of Alistair's big hot, pink face referencing his new exercise regime.

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2018 09:45

It’s going to be something risible and inappropriate. Because Jazzer has had the only bit of sensitivity and seriousness working class characters are allowed per year, so he has to go back to being a buffoon.

CarefullyDrawnMap · 12/09/2018 09:54

That's reminded me of when Eddie got a picture of Clarrie put on his van and it was like a big round sun with 'Clarrie' written underneath. She made him remove it.

You never know, Jazzer might have hidden talents and end up making novelty cakes for Fallon's shop.

Peartree17 · 12/09/2018 10:41

To be fair, I think sensitivity and seriousness are thin on the ground for all characters in The Archers. Can't think that any of the principal members of the Faaammmleee are weighted down with these qualities. And even though it's stretching it a bit, if there is one character that most consistently shows these qualities, I'd say it was Clarrie.

But TA is not particularly good writing, it just tunes into a need for narrative and habit! And very effectively too. Also, I think we all quite like being in our little TA tribe, don't we? or we wouldn't also be on this thread. (I am wasting sooo much time on Mumsnet these days...it's shocking, it really is.)

birdsdestiny · 12/09/2018 12:54

I was about to give a shout out for Clarrie, she is consistently kind and sensitive in her approach even to people she is not particularly close to.

QuaterMiss · 12/09/2018 14:22

Definitely the characters who combine sensitivity and seriousness are thin on the ground!

Robert and Lynda are both quite sensitive - but they’re such flibbertigibbets. Elizabeth has, necessarily evolved into a (superficially) serious person - but, as we’ve seen, she wouldn’t notice if the Sun crashed into Earth and wiped out the planet. Johnny though ... Johnny is developing into the last hope of Ambridge. (As Lil’G pointed out so elegantly a few days ago!)

On a second listening - last night’s episode really was odd. Jim, Jazzer and Alistair are a dream team; they sound wonderful together. And Brian and Peggy are so at ease in their roles. So all the words sounded ... convincing. But they amounted to nothing at all.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2018 15:12

You wouldn't think that if you were preparing an entry for the F&P show Quater ! It's dog eat dog, spying being just one of the underhand tactics resorted to by the competitors.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2018 15:21

I loved Joe's attempt at sensitivity, even dh laughed at his line about not mentioning a gamble in front of Alistair "bein' as you're an addict". BOOP for that.

QuaterMiss · 12/09/2018 15:34

It’s true, both Joe and Ed are serious minded - and Joe displays astonishing empathy sometimes. It would be nice to hear more of that from both of them.

Thinking about it - there is perhaps a degree of old skool sexism in the writing. I want to call Clarrie and Emma sensitive and serious - but they’re almost never allowed to refer to anything beyond their allotted domestic sphere. Whereas Joe is often heard talking about ‘the bigger picture’ and relating the particular to the general.
